Since Metallica is playing the Black Album in full for it's 20th (21st) Birthday, lets see your top three songs off it

Mine are Wherever I May Roam, The God That Failed, and My Friend of Misery

Roam holds a special place in my heart because the intro got me interested in Metallica (the band, not the album) Plus it is my dad's favorite Metallica song

Wherever I May Roam is one of my favorite Metallica songs... have never given the second side of the LP enough of a chance, though. I'm sure I'd love the songs if I put enough effort into checking them out.

Can't I just choose Of Wolf and Man three times? :hecho:

I guess I'll go with Wherever I May Roam and The God That Failed...

Through The Never

Why? The riff is immense. I can see no reason at all for a metal fan to dislike that song unless they're just doing the knee-jerk "derp, it's over-played, derp!" thing.

The confusing thing is why Wolf is so far behind Roam when it's so superior in every way.

Unforgiven, Holier Than Thou, The God That Failed. The album is full of huge sounding, heavy songs, and I think Holier Than Thou and The God That Failed are just awesome examples of that. Unforgiven is also one of the best metal ballads ever, part 2 is just as good, and part 3 is a terrible ending to the whole thing.

Sad But True is good, but I never thought of it much more than that, for me it's a great riff but the song is just overall good.

Not a bad song on the record though.

I just find it supremely boring and not catchy at all.

Another reason is maybe because Kid Rock used the riff in one of his biggest songs

My Friend of Misery, The Struggle Within, and Don't Tread on Me. Pretty much the songs that aren't overplayed at this point (almost picked The God That Failed and The Unforgiven, though).

This.

Even though I did vote for Roam as well. I don't think there is a song on the album that even comes close to Wolf.

Edit: Enter Sandman only has one vote and that makes me extremely happy.

I do not begin to claim to have any sort of patent or exclusive right to Metallica polls, or polls in general. However, I'm a little annoyed that you did this at this time. The reason being as that after the appropriate amount of time had passed for my Black Album poll I was going to put together a final top Metallica songs list exclusive to metalsetlists.com, composed of songs with high amounts of votes. It was going to be a surprise because, frankly, I didn't think I had reason to give it away that soon.

And for those thinking why don't I just use this poll, well, there is a tiny difference in outcome between someone who can only pick two choices and someone who can only pick three.

Furthermore, Sad But True is heavy as fuck. Even if the verse riff under the vocals is a bit dumb.

Honestly, I think it is 100% a victim of the "over-played" thing. I would actually be my third choice after the two I picked. It's a hell of a track, just a victim of it being the one all non-Metallica fans know and love (and therefore pretend to be Metallica fans on that basis).

In all honesty.. I've only heard the singles off this album, and they have all been overplayed to death here in Seattle :eyes:

Edit: Only seconds after posting this, Sad But True comes on the radio.....

Riff? What riff? I've got a reason for you: the song fucking blows!

Anyway, I went with Of Wolf and Man, Holier Than Thou and Through the Never.

The overplayed bit is mostly why I hate it. I think that it is a mediocre song at best and it annoys me that everyone knows this song above any other Metallica song.

Wolf, Roam and Sad But True (in that order).

Sorry, but ravenheart is right - dat riff is just too fucking immense to ignore.

Would it be wrong if one of those songs was Entersandman.... :eyes:

It was one of the first, if not, very first metallica song(s) that got me into the band. Just sucks a lot people will usually ignore since it's kinda....overrplayed...

but..
