Opeth will return to the US with Katatonia in Sept. 2012. At least one more band will be added, not sure which band it is at this time.

I dig. Still haven't seen Opeth on any Heritage support dates, very bummed about that.

Again? :hecho: Not that there's anything wrong with the Katatonia, but I'd rather not see the same show as last year. Hopefully the other band makes it more interesting.

I honestly thought this was a typo and someone had just necro'd the tour that happened last year. I find this quite baffling.

Same here. I had to read the title again to make sure it said 2012.

Why would they pick the same band again though? Unless they are playing an entirely different setlist or they are only hitting the cities that they didn't hit in 2011.

It will have to be a B-market tour, otherwise it would be pointless. It will probably hit the same big areas though.

But you have no idea if it would be a crappy band or not. The last Opeth tour for Watershed was with Enslaved.

I'm down for this. I barely got into Nightwish about three months ago and I've been listening to them quite often since then.

Well this is 100% guaranteed coming to Minnesota, because of what happened so I am all for this. I've yet to see Katatonia, love Opeth, and I'm sure they won't pick a shitty band to be a main opener.

Win-Win for me.

They're touring with Katatonia again because last year Atlanta traffic prevented me from seeing Katatonia with them.

They're probably doing it again so that they'll do the Bloodbath encore on one of the dates. It's a smart move cuz then all of the fans will go out hoping it's theirs

Am I the only one who'd rather see Katatonia more than Opeth? Mainly because of setlist decisions and what not. I also didn't get to see this tour the first time around since it was in fucking Guelph last time.

No.
I love me some Opeth but the new album does nothing for me.
Katatonia are way better imo.

Yeah, if it was pre Heritage I would prefer Opeth but at this point I would rather see a Katatonia show.

Not gonna lie, I wouldn't mind seeing this again if a friend of mine can tag along.

...And if they have a setlist that beats the fuck out of the Mastopeth one, I'm not complaining. :D

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only metal fan who actually really doesn't like Katatonia and finds a large portion of their later material to be quite generic. I don't get it. Jonas has a nice singing voice but the music feels incredibly mediocre. I feel like they're almost a default band for metalheads to listen to when they're sad or something without straying too far away from being "true".

I kind of agree with you, I feel like their later material is hit or miss. While they have great songs, there are just as many mediocre ones that sound pretty much the same. And I do prefer them over Opeth, they blew Opeth off the stage last October (imo).

I've seen this for a couple of days now but I dunno... Katatonia and Devin Townsend are two of my favorite bands of all time, but seeing a show with them together does not sound fun to me in the slightest. Mood wise it would be a pretty awkward concert going from serious to fun.

The Florida dates (this year's and last) are about two hours away from each other. I wonder if this will be a full US tour again, or if they're just hitting a couple of dates in the middle of East Buttfuck, Nowhere and calling it a day (year, whatever).

When asked about OPETH's touring plans for the immediate future, Fredrik said, "Well, we're actually gonna come back to North America again late September. We're doing another headlining run. We're gonna hit the spots we didn't hit on the last tour with KATATONIA [in late 2011]. And we're bringing KATATONIA with us again
"We're actually going out with OPETH again," he replied. "A new U.S. tour after the one with DEVIN TOWNSEND [PROJECT] and PARADISE LOST. We're gonna play some other territories with OPETH so we're out for another month in October. Then we have four days off and then there's a two-month tour of Europe
devin tour ends on sept 24 (would imagine that runs almost straight into opeth), euro tour starts nov 4, so as full as a little over a month + different markets can be

Anyone have any idea why Opeth cancelled the Agoura Hills, CA date?

It was odd for them to pick that club to begin with but it's a bummer that they added and cancelled so quickly.

Maybe it was a mistake.

im thinking maybe they meant to pull it for being up too early but mistakenly marked it as cancelled? theres a page for it on the venue's ticketing system, but not on the main event listing.

if any of you were wondering the reasoning behind this tour not happening:

Speaking about touring, guitarist Fredrik Akesson let it slip this past summer that Opeth and Katatonia would be touring North America again later this year. Is that still happening?

That was supposed to happen, but Mikael [Akerfeldt, Opeth frontman] actually pulled the plug on that at the last minute. Itís very unfortunate because we have two more days on this tour now. In three days, we were supposed to start that tour, so itís a bummer really. We were ready to do that.

Did he give a reason for canning the tour?

I think honestly, Mikaelís burnt. Heís just been touring nonstop, constantly. I think he had to choose his priorities because theyíre going out in Europe in a month as well. So that would mean they probably wouldnít have a gap at all and they decided to pull on this tour, which is unfortunate for us. But things like that happen, itís out of our control.
