View Full Version : My Interview with Vogg from Decapitated

Here is my interview with Vogg from Decapitated, the mic I usually use, was being used to record Meshuggah, as you'll hear in the background near the end of the interview, so this is just a camera mic I tried to clean up as much as possible. Hope you guys dig it:

I really don't get what the problem is with sharing interviews with bands that I do. There's new information in it he hasn't mentioned before in previous interviews, I don't just rehash questions or anything.

I like what you do for your site. I'm not saying you have to like what I do but what is the problem really?

Nothing to do with what you do (in principle, my views of internet video and audio interviews aside). It's shameless self-promotion I dislike.

Start a YouTube channel, if that's your thing, and have a general link to it in you signature so people can keep tabs on it if they like, that's fair enough. But a new thread everytime you breath near a musician?

Because internet journalism is so much different than print journalism.

Am I included in the "Lazy Journalism" and "Shameless Self Promotion" opinions?

In the future I can post these and not mention my name at all, or just not post anything at all. But I know some people here dig what I do, so I post it so they can see it. Not to be a whore, not to say "hey look at me and how cool I am for doing this!!!!1" It's purely just for the fact that I love the bands I interview and want to help promote them

....that's it!

When it's written, there's no difference at all besides perception of stature, and cost.

Yes.

A sig link and a dedicated Faceache page achieves exactly the same thing without the whoring. If people care, they tune in of their own accord.

You're implying that recording a video interview and posting it on the web is so much more expensive than recording an audio interview, transcribing it, and printing it.

Because it's written doesn't make it more prestigious.

Since you added this since i started writing, I already kinda covered what you said.

And I don't I go to plenty of shows where I don't interview or take picture or video and I go entirely just to enjoy the show. I'm going to Sabaton tomorrow, just for the show to enjoy it. I'll probably make a thread for a review in the Setlist section, but that's it.

And I do have a youtube page for it, but again I know some people here like what I do, those that don't....don't.

Two more things here, guy.

1.) I am about to be printed for a small magazine here in the states.
2.) Unless I make updates how are people going to know that's something new? unless all people always know to check the site every day, they don't. and for new people who might be interested.

How is this any different then any other article posted in this section?

No, what I'm saying is there's no difference between written internet journalism and printed, except that printed costs more, to produce and to read, and it's perceived as more important, even though the content and work required is identical.

Rock Thiz Magazine. I will be starting in June or July's issue with the printed version of my last couple interviews, and 3 album reviews I did.

But I do that as well, but the idea of a forum or message board is to promote, troll, or really overall, state your opinion. For these threads, its me saying, I like these bands check out the interview I did with them, hope you dig it.

But that's what I don't get. Your opinion is far different then most people here, why speak up for them if even you don't feel that way, or at least know that's not my intention? And if I do post Me or My in the title, yeah I'm damn proud that I'm able to do that. I'm not saying I'm better then anyone else, but I did do it, so I would like to be able to share something I did. For no other purpose then to showcase some good bands and music.

You know what would be better? A single thread in General Chat that you update with each new interview, instead of a post every time in the shows thread and a new thread here.

It's all about perception, and at the moment, two post minimum per interview, one in it's own thread, is totally overkill and feels far more like "ME ME ME" than simple professional pride.

Because I did it twice in a couple days? I don't even have anything lined up till June 26th with Iced Earth. And unless something major changes where someone really, really likes what I do and hires me on to do this for a living, it's going to be spaced between longer periods of time. It just happened to be I did one Thursday and one last night.

So the ongoing thread gets resurrected once in a while with a new update, that's cool. Look at the guys with radio show threads. They don't post a new thread everytime they have a show aired. Just update the existing without encroaching any further on forum and those who are interested notice. Otherwise they'd end up becoming the forum equivalent of Blackguard.

I considered doing that myself, but decided anyone who cares will see new stuff via Facebook or Twitter, and everyone else doesn't need it thrown at them.

But its a different type of situation. I've done that elsewhere and it doesn't pan out in that situation, it shows up as, "Oh they are still talking about the first interview, no need to check out the rest." When its a different band, and different interview, then I think it's ok for a different thread.

The one part I do agree with what Streets said is that if you someone doesn't like it, they don't have to check it out *Paraphrasing of course*. It's not rehashing or whoring myself out when you do different things. It would be a lot different if I kept posting my interview with RVP back in November instead of new material.

Get's you noticed, right ;)

Smartass aside, I know that's not what you were going for, just to get the interview attention.

So you're just accounting for peoples' laziness? Again, those who actually are interested aren't that lazy and don't make that mistake. If they need a new thread then they didn't really care that much in the first place.

The one part I do agree with what Streets said is that if you someone doesn't like it, they don't have to check it out *Paraphrasing of course*.

No. That's always been a dumb thing to say. In most cases, no one knows if they like something new until they check it out, plus that's just saying people shouldn't have a disagreeing point of view.

No I'm accounting for people who don't know and who may be interested if they see it.

People are going to do whatever they want no matter what I say. I'm not anybody. I'm just some guy. But it is true. I don't go to the Justin Beiber threads to troll the 13 year olds who love him. and there's a lot of threads here I ignore since i have no interest in them. again it's just my humble opinion and no one has to agree with me.

^ Yes they did. Sadly not here on the October headlining tour.

Like in the interview Vogg says they like looking forward and having a good combination of older and newer songs, preferably 50/50. when you only have 30 minutes you are quite limited to what to do live. I can't complain about their set on Sunday.

I wasn't going to chime in, because it seemed as if the wound had started to crust over, but then you made two mistakes - the first being the obvious ripping off of the scab by the passive aggressive comment about "more whoring", and the second by posting a second link to a printed version of the audio file you had already posted and linked to, thereby cementing the fact that you're promoting yourself and not the band, and thus basically proving raven's point.

It's a subtle thing, but I agree with his suggestion that you make one thread and just provide updates with links to new stuff. That's the way other folks have done it around here, such as Andrew Metalhead, and he got nothing but respect for what he was doing. Arguing about it and refusing to make subtle changes to the way you do things just makes you look like a stubborn kid, which isn't what you want if you want to be taken seriously.

That's my :2cents:, take it or leave it.
