Kinda surprised this tour hasn't happened already...

That said, I'm happy to skip this. If I'm going to see Rob Zombie, it won't be while he's opening for Manson

Doubt it.

Also, Rob needs to stop touring for five minutes so he can finish the new album and new movie!

Zombie will be closing agree. There's a difference in stature/perception between the two in recent years/currently and that means a lot to the promoters. Slight chance could be a flip flop deal. And I'm saying that as much bigger Manson than Rob fan (seen Manson more than any other act 15 and counting)

Yeah, I'm surprised it took this long. If they got Alice Cooper on the bill, I would easily travel across the country for this.

well Zombie is billed over Manson at Rock On The Range so there's that

I wonder who will open

InFlamesOfBirchmen

I'm willing to bet money that Zombie will headline. His audience is significantly larger than Manson's at this point. I'd expect a smaller band to open (Muderdolls maybe?), then Manson, then Zombie closing the show.

I can't imagine Manson not headlining, especially since he is going to be supporting his new album. It happened before when Manson headlined over Slayer in 2007 and both of them had new albums to tour. I'm looking forward to this no matter what.

ok......

Zombie and Slayer in 2011: No Denver Date (or anywhere near Colorado)

Zombie and Megadeth in 2012: No Denver Date (can't afford to travel to Kansas)

Now....if I don't get to see Zombie in Denver this fall, I will release my rage on a cow and punch it until I pass out

also I don't really give a fuck about Manson he can suck it, I'm interested in the Zombie:rocker:

Zombie will headline. He is the bigger star now due to his movie career. Its not 1997 any more and Manson hasn't done much lately. I hear his new album is not selling as well as it was supposed to. Manson has went downhill since John 5 left. He should seek another guitar virtuoso type and move Twiggy back to bass.

Right on! Twiggy is such a boring guitarist.

I thought it sucked how John5 wanted to include guitar solos on older Manson song, but Manson said that was never going to happen. Then Skold put a solo in almost every song from Eat Me Drink Me.

If Zombie can close over Alice Cooper, Slayer, and Megadeth, then he sure as hell can close over Manson, his fanbase has shrunk significantly the last few years.

Manson bigger box office mass appeal (at those times) than Slayer.

That statement is no reflection on quality of act vs act etc so no one get their panties in a bunch.

Box office wise (at their respective times of touring together) : Zombie > Manson > Slayer

So basically:

Rob Zombie is billed over Marilyn Manson at Rock on the Range.
Manson headlined Mayhem 09 over Slayer.
Slayer headlined a tour over Zombie last summer.

So they're all pretty close in popularity. This could really go either way for this tour. The RotR billing is most recent, but Manson just had an album come out. I think Manson may have the slight edge due to that alone, but it will still be a co-headliner obviously either way.

Plus, all of his haters can leave after Zombie.

dcmetal108

I don't see Zombie not headlining if not for the fact alone that he has a huge stageshow. I don't see them seeing it up then taking it down right away for Manson.

Remember also that on the Hell on Earth tour with Slayer last year it seemed like Slayer closed over half of the shows on the tour, plus the stage set up from what I saw in youtube video wasn't super complex

That being said I think Zombie deserves to headline over Manson, although if this comes to Denver and Manson is closing I get to get out early:party:

Manson is selling less albums than Disturbed, Godsmack, LoG... he should be main support. He is selling the same amount of albums now that Mastodon is. Its a good amount but not good enough imo to headline over Zombie, especially with Zombie having part of Manson's most popular line up in his own band now. Manson was more notorious for a period of time in the 90's but White/Rob Zombie has had a more successful career imo. Manson has had a successful career & I like alot of his music but I think Zombie has alot more fans of casual hard rock that will turn out to see him compared to Manson's smaller but more loyal following.

I feel like Zombie skips Florida on every single one of his tours. He's skipped here on his runs with Megadeth, Slayer, Alice Cooper, and now Manson. He was on Mayhem two years ago, but that always comes to Florida. Maybe they could swing through Tampa during their five day gap between Atlanta and Houston? Manson hasn't been here since Mayhem 09 either, so they're both overdue.

I saw J-Devil open for Korn on their last tour where they thought having 2 dubstep openers was a good idea.

Now J-Devil was fun to watch for the 20 minute set but all he does it press play on the computer then run around the stage dancing and pumping up the crowd. Very little mixing.

If they can tour with Mastodon, I'd say it isn't entirely out of the question. I feel like the people that are listening to Manson or Zombie at least know who these guys are, and would probably like them, even if just for the theatrics.

I have no idea how Ghost draws elsewhere, but when they hit San Antonio, they were in a club that houses 1,200 people and it wasn't really packed for Ghost, hence the "good draw" question.

Ghost is a new band with some hype. Other than the Heritage Hunter tour they really haven't had much exposure in the US. I think that may change with the new record label deal they signed when they release their next album.

Ghost sorts fits in with Zombie/Manson in appearance but their music is totally different. And better.

Sid from Slipknot doesn't do anything. At Mayhem all he was doing was scratching over songs.

Exactly. I don't see the point of even having an opening act if they don't really do anything. At least Mayhem Fest used him as an opportunity to keep people entertained in between bands, but I'm not sure his act can work for, say, a half hour.

Also, if anyone is planning on going tomorrow, would they mind live tweeting the sets? I'm really interested in what Manson is going to play. He made it sound like they were breaking out a bunch of old stuff. I also wanna see if Ginger and John 5 will play a few songs with him, as it sounds like it isn't entirely out of the question.

Ha, didn't see you were from England. I agree Sid is better than J-Devil, but I can name five bands off the top of my head who would make more sense as an opener.

What Hell is About
09-29-2012, 12:11 PM
I went to the first show of the tour last night in Phoenix. I don't know Manson's material so I didn't keep track of any songs to make an actual review thread. Would've liked to see All That Remains but they went on hella early and honestly this festival lineup was garbage so I went late!

A couple of thoughts:

-Cory Taylor did acoustic guitar on the main stage and ended his set 10-20 minutes EARLY. It was funny to see him singing love songs with all of Manson's crosses and dark props behind him. :light:

-I had VIP with free catering but apparently this wasn't ballin' enough to attend Sid's DJ set. He was not on any of the stages or between bands. It was an 'after party' after Rob Zombie's set where they had a special VIP-type area set up outside next to the normal VIP. I could hear him pounding dance music untz untz untz but I didn't have a pink 'Rockstar' wristband to go see if it was worth checking out. He did not start playing until near the end, or after the concert. I was over there between Manson and Zombie and there was no music yet.

- Why the fuck is Buckcherry on this lineup? Or is that just some shows?

Marilyn Manson

I'm not a Manson fan and don't know his music so I don't know if these comments are typical for his set or not. I give him a lot of respect and wanted to see him live. Some observations:

- Manson opens with the Suspiria theme. Seriously, a classic horror theme youtube it! :horns::horns::horns:

- Tons of Background vocals. He wasn't lip-syncing but I was surprised at how many songs had them.

- He had a lot of energy at the beginning but burnt out and lost the crowd toward the end. I will be surprised if he makes it through the whole tour based on his performance.

- He kept throwing shit and talking to the drummer between songs when he would go change wardrobe. I don't know if he was pissed or being a cool rock star.

- Vocals were super low compared to all other acts. His speech between songs was unintelligible!

- During Dope Show the s in "DRUGS" on his huge stage lights went out and stayed out lol

- He drop kicked a water bottle hella far but surpassed that by throwing a water bottle 100s of feet almost to the lawn area! Quarterback Manson I couldn't believe how far that thing went hahaha best part of the night! :horns::horns::horns:

Overall, I dug his set and hope he either shortens it or builds up some more energy before he drops out like J DEVIL lol

Rob Zombie

- Entertaining as always. Played all the normal songs with a lot of the same videos as last time I saw him a few years ago. So if you went to Mayhem 2010 it's pretty much the same.

- John 5's guitar solo is still incredible as Zombie wanders the audience.

- Lords of Salem trailer is shown toward the end. Looks sick and twisted, much better than the Halloween remakes!

- Rob's voice kept getting hoarse and would make me nervous every couple verses as he himself could tell he needed more than water! Hope him and Manson can make it! Rob had tons of energy and put on a great show and a lotttttt better vocal performance than his last few tours I have seen him.

As a college student who makes next to nothing, I suggest buying a lawn ticket. Zombie is worth every penny. I paid $70 for a front row seat, and I have a feeling it'll be worth it.

As for Manson, I just watched a few videos from the tour. I really wish he'd cut back on the drugs. I understand he's entitled to do what he wants, but it's clearly effecting his performances, and has for years. Also, I'd love to see something more than a greatest hits set. At least Rob has the performance to back it up.

Apparently Manson started shit on tour. From RZ's Facebook on Saturday:

As stupid as this all is, I feel I must clear things up a little better. First off, I want to thank all the fans who came out in the freezing cold in Detroit last night. It was a total blast as always.

Unfortunately things turned ugly backstage. Why? I don't know, but for some reason our touring partner decided to end his set by blaming me for something that I had nothing to do with and screaming he was going to "kick Rob Zombie's ass as soon as he got off stage".

Go figure. I was backstage hanging, watching the show thinking "hey this is gonna be a great night", when suddenly he starts screaming threats. So strange. I don't get it. Christ, I've known some of his crew for 20 fucking years and some of his crew used work for me. It's all good. No one would fuck with someone's show. It is ridiculous.

Well, of course I felt the need to respond to the " kick my ass remark". Who wouldn't? Although I wish I had kept it backstage and kept the fans out of it. It is all 4rd grade fight after school nonsense of which I have never dealt with on tour before. Co-headlining tours always go smooth because everything is cut 50/50 and I mean everything. No one fucks with anyone's show. It is even fucking Steven.

I've done it co-headlining tours many times before and have had no troubles. Not with Pantera, Slayer, Alice Cooper, Korn, Megadeth or anyone ever. So I didn't expect any troubles on this. It seemed like a great idea at the time.

But shit happens. Anyway, sorry to the fans who had to dealt with the embarrassing stupidity of it all. We are all there for the same reasons to give you the best show ever… that's it.

Well, tonight's show in Orlando is cancelled due to weather. Sorry to all of those planning on attending. At least tomorrow's show in Tampa (which I'm going to) is still on, so I'm hoping for the best. They're also honoring all tickets from Orlando at Tampa's show, so that is good.

On the plus side, this almost definitely means that Machine Head and All That Remains will be added to the Dethklok Orlando show. I figured they'd be there anyways (and just announce it after Halloweenie Roast), but now they can't say "We played Orlando and month and a half ago, so we aren't playing again with Dethklok."
