And once they do, you'll have about another half hour or so to wait for James LaBrie to hit the stage ;)

I'm highly considering taking a bus or finding a ride to Anaheim for the sole purpose of seeing D.R.I. on November 17th.

It's impulsive as fuck, so I'd have to take the thought into consideration if I'm going alone - or if I'm going with people, I'd have to find some people in Austin or San Antonio willing to take a road trip...

Likely just the normal set, but hey, it's D.R.I. we're talking about here.

After putting some thought into it, I'm only going to be considering it if I can get some friends together for it for the "road trip" aspect of it all.

Okay i need two questions here:

1. Does anyone know if this festival is worth going too, if so what bands should I check out?
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gp1Ez2ezSfw/UCUe2Q5iNyI/AAAAAAAAB8o/_OLpL66pRN0/s640/RR_3Column8.jpg

2. Primus and Disma are playing the same day, never seen Primus and I'm more of a casual fan, but the tour seems awesome and I've already seen Disma(though they were fucking amazing and seeing them ALL THE WAY DOWN HERE may never happen again), what do!?

Hm yeah i guess i figured as such, Ill see what else people have to say.

Yeah I know, I love Disma and to imagine them in a indoors small bar would probably be so heavy and crushing i may leave with a broken bone. Regardless the whole 3D tour plus Primus being a cool band studio wise and from what I hear, live, might be an awesome experience(especially if I do it... unsober). Then again Primus is nearly 50, while Disma is like... $15. Plus Hibernus Mortis is on the line up, which I've heard good things about.

Strung Out playing 2 albums in full. Isn't that enough to go??

We went on a humidity tour of America. Austin to New Orleans to Florida to Georgia before getting back to Michigan.

Didn't end up going to see Clutch last night, which I am kind of regretting now because I didn't end up doing much of anything.

So pumped for System and Deftones on Tuesday. It's practically going to be a high school reunion for me because I found out that a ton of people I know are going.

It's not that I have a lot of money, I just keep my bills to a minimum and live well within my means. Some people are junkies or drunkards. I'm a concertholic. Quit smoking 2 years ago and quit drinking 3 months ago. I put what money I would've used for those into the concert fund.

Going to so many shows would feel monotonous to me. There aren't even that many I would actually want to go to anyway. I'd rather keep a balance between shows, hanging out with friends, and buying music.

Yeah, I've been getting incredibly bored of shows, too. When I was younger I used to try to go to every single show that remotely interested me, but now I barely even go to shows by bands I regularly listen to. Earlier this summer I went to see Terror, but I guess I underestimated their popularity because tickets sold out a couple days before, so I showed up two hours in advance to wait in line, but I still didn't get in, and honestly I didn't even care, despite the fact Terror is one of my absoulte favorite bands, ever. Also, last night I saw Lightning Bolt, who I don't listen to that much, but I've heard so much about their live show that I just had to go and check it out. And yeah, they put on an absolutely sick performance, but after a while I was like "OK, I think I get the idea" and left early. I've gone to like three shows this summer, and it's sure as hell not due to work obligations or lack of money  Point is live music just doesn't do it for me anymore. I guess that's not the worst thing in the world because my hearing is already fucked at age 20.

That's a fairly extreme case, but frankly this does happen, and will happen, to practically everyone here, just in different ways. I go to a lot of a shows a year still, and I'm not yet going to less than I used to, but I am going to less than I could. I do skip shows by bands I like if I've seen them a few times before, or if I'm not really that bothered about them, whereas I used to go to see bands I was only half interested in.

And often now I find an hour or so of most bands is enough. It's only the ones I really love that I want to play long sets and I get disappointed with if they play short ones.

I feel like this way sometimes. I try to catch bands that I haven't seen live and try to bring my brother so I don't go alone and get bored easily. Also, this why I don't go to see death, hardcore, thrash or grindcore bands solely because they all sound the same in a live setting to me.

I TOTALLY have felt that way, multiple times before. Taking breaks from shows make you appreciate it more, or going to shows of different genres of music. Every single generic/somewhat alright metalcore band I liked from 2008 I'm just soooooo apathetic towards seeing now. Like, summer slaughter had a sick lineup this year and I didn't care one bit I was missing it. :(

I'm either going to Converge or Red Fang, not exactly sure which one yet. I actually haven't been to the Middle East either, so no matter what the venue will be new to me. I'm only thinking about going to Skeletonwitch in Rhode Island because my buddy goes to school down the street from the venue.

It's not really up to me since I don't have a license. My buddy is coming back from Rhode Island to go to one of those shows and I'm letting him decide. I would prefer to see Converge since i haven't seem them before and I've seen Red Fang twice (but never headlining). Support bands really aren't a big factor since Torche is the only one I care about on either show (Nails isn't playing in Cambridge btw).

Skeletonwitch is playing in Pawtucket (which is just barely outside of Providence) on Friday, so you literally just miss them. I'll be at the show more than likely so if you want stick around another day and go to the show you can shit on me for not liking Yellow and Green in person ;) Outside of that there's nothing in those 3 days that I know of.Thanks for responding. Yeah, I saw that Skeletits show. Too bad about that. Now it looks like I might not be making the trip after all. Still gotta figure out the travel schedule between me and the other guy on my team, but if I do go, I definitely won't be able to stay extra since my wife will be at home pulling her hair out with the kids as it is.

This is incredibly depressing to me.Fourth'ed.

That's a fairly extreme case, but frankly this does happen, and will happen, to practically everyone here, just in different ways.I'll probably end up being an exception to this, and I'll tell you why. My interest in going to shows got significantly rekindled about eight years ago when I realized there was a lot of awesome stuff going on in the metal scene at the time (prior to that, I was on an electronica kick for a while and so I didn't go to a lot of live shows). Since then, my family has been growing and my free time to go to shows has been dwindling, so I can never make as many as I'd like. When you're in a state of constant starvation, it's kinda hard to get burned out on good food, know what I'm sayin'?

And often now I find an hour or so of most bands is enough. It's only the ones I really love that I want to play long sets and I get disappointed with if they play short ones.Agreed here, though.

Yeah, obviously. The reason it happens to everyone else, and may yet happen to you once the young'uns are older and you might be able to get to more shows, is the novelty has worn off. That's what it basically comes down to. You go to a handful of shows a year, those are carefully chosen shows, with bands you love, and each one of those is something to look forward to. You go to a handful of shows a week, that level of excitement cannot possibly exist for every one.

Natrlhi
08-28-2012, 07:01 AM
Can't argue with that. I do look forward to the day when I get to see so many shows that it starts to get boring, though. Then I'll know that all I have to do is back off slightly and I'll be at a perfect balance. :D

For me, when I'm back home I don't have friends to go to shows with. I don't have a car so my parents have to drop me off and pick me up from the train station, and I have to take the trains and roam New York alone so of course any little concert for me turns into a whole trip.

At college I started meeting friends who are more into my type of music and I just found it to be way better and I even have been going to shows with them even if I don't really know the bands at all.
