Having a pretty strong internal debate about going to a double show at Reggie's on June 30th. The early show is If These Trees Could Talk/The End of the Ocean and the late show is Black Cobra/Gaza/Earthen Grave. I've honestly never listened to ITTCT or much post-rock in general, but the show is only $5 and I really want to see The End of the Ocean again after seeing them in April with Alcest. Also, I haven't really listened to a lot of Black Cobra, but I've heard that they're heavy as fuck live.

Edit: Also, fucking Clutch is playing a 21 & over show again at Mojoes on November 2nd. :pissed: Probably making up for that Hellyeah show. It had to be a fucking month before my birthday too...

This is easy. The one with Earthen Grave.

The only thing they have around here is some crackheads od'ing at the local park during the fireworks.

Driving an hour and a half to see Black Breath for free >> Watching shitty fireworks at an overcrowded park with crackheads.

The only thing we gotta worry about is the car getting broken into or us getting stabbed after the show, which probably won't be over until close to 2 a.m. since Black Breath doesn't go on until about 12:30.

Have fun tomorrow! I have been waiting four years to see Hail!Hornet and I'm going to be forced to miss their first LA show :( I remember I saw Erik Larson outside of the Glass House in July of 2008 when he was on tour as a roadie for the At the Gates tour and begged him to have H!H come to LA one day. Next shows I've got are Death To All in two weeks and then Warped the day after.

My friend, who you met at the Grave show, saw the entire set. He said they did it as Cripple Youth. They must have done it before you got in. He's really accurate about setlists. He could probably tell you the exact set Destruction played in 09 at the Key Club off the top of his head haha

Actually, he doesn't tend to sound too bad. They're just incredibly boring, and very often the guitars/bass lack definition in favour of all-out volume, so what were awesome precise riffs on the CDs just become sludgy and non-descript.

I thought that at first, but after further research, the "Ghost-Faced Killer" prestige class debuted with "Complete Adventurer", a class add-on book for the 3.5 rule set, which came out in 2002. So Wu-Tang did it first!

Also Nat, how does it feel that I have more posts than you now? :eyes:Considering that I have to balance the requirements of a pretty demanding career, a house, a boat, three cars, two kids, two dogs and a wife who's expecting twins in less than a month, and still I manage to have nearly as many posts as a college student who only has to worry about going to classes, going to shows, drinking beer and getting laid (and possibly a job) - I would say it feels pretty damn good. Thanks for asking.

Why the hell do you have three cars and a boat?

Natrlhi

Why the hell do you have three cars and a boat?I actually bought the boat before the cars and the house, and even before I was married (although I was engaged at the time, I believe).

It's been a thing in my family ever since I was a kid - I practically grew up on Lake Erie. Fishing, skiing, swimming, etc. Now it's something I'm passing on to my kids, and so far they seem to love it. My five year old loves fishing and getting towed around in the tube. Relax, it isn't a yacht or anything. It's a 23' cruiser with a small cabin that we trailer around, and it's 22 years old. I paid it off around 8-10 years ago.

The story behind the car thing is that I drive a minivan, my wife drives the SUV (which we use to tow the boat), and we have the Mustang GT convertible that I've talked about on here before. It's our fun car. I store it in the winter so it doesn't get all trashed, and the miles are ultra-low (only ~25,000, and it's seven years old), so it'll retain its value for when I pass it on to my kids, hopefully.

It might sound like I'm filthy rich, but really I'm not. I make a good living, but we have a lot of bills (and also some debt, unfortunately). Raising a family is expensive, especially when you have a few nice things to go along with all the necessities.

:party:Hey, why hide it? I drive a minivan and I love the fuck out of it. It's comfortable and it has room to haul all my shit or my family or whatever I need to do - and it gets decent mileage for a vehicle that can do that. A few members of this forum have been fortunate enough to have been transported in the metal van, and they are now better persons for it. :D

All I heard was :money:

;)I know, that's always my fear. I really don't like it when people focus on that part of the story, because to me it's more about enjoying life while you can and worrying about things like money later, but I can't help what people are gonna think. I definitely count my blessings, though, that's for damn sure. :fist:

May also go see Anvil on the 31st - I'm not familiar with their music at all but they have some seriously awesome local bands opening for the show here, and that day marks my 11th anniversary of concert-going, so I may as well go check it out.

Then in August I'm seeing Metallica twice (24th and 25th) in Vancouver, for their special 30 years of touring show, which is being filmed for a 3D movie.

And finally I'm seeing Anthrax, Testament, and Death Angel on September 24th here.

I'm sure there will be more awesome shows coming up before the end of the year.

Two great shows got announced while I was at Kaiser Chiefs tonight. Skin Like Iron @ Sub-Mission Art Space July 16th, and Gaza & Eagle Twin @ Thee Parkside August 7th. Incredibly tempted to go to SLI but it's in dangerously close proximity with Tidal Wave and the Melvins, so I'll probably have to skip it. Shame, seeing as how it's only $6.

Jelly about that Gaza show, they are a fucking great live band.

So I really want to see Skeletonwitch and Havok but it's on a Sunday so I would have to be back at UVA from Richmond (1 hour drive) after the show. I'm not allowed to have a car as a first-year...Anyone have advice?

Friend is the only thing I can think of. That's too far for a cab. Shame though because an hour really isn't much and the drive is easy as hell.

It is an easy drive, really too bad that first-years can't have cars.

Going to see Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper tonight! It will be my first time for Maiden and my sixth time for Alice. Despite my disappointment in some aspects of the setlist, it's still going to be an amazing show, and I'm curious to see if they can top Slayer live.

I'm a much a bigger fan of Slayer than Maiden and I must agree. I really don't see why so many people consider Slayer one of the greatest live bands. I've seen them twice, and while it's still awesome that you're seeing fucking Slayer they have no energy on stage and Tom's voice isn't that great.

Slayer IS one of the best live bands I've seen. They blew my fucking mind ten times over the one time I saw them. Tom sounded perfect, the band was spot-on, and the mix was unbelievable (save for a few brief problems during "Ghosts of War" when Kerry's guitar was cutting out). The lack of energy doesn't bother me at all. They play their songs fucking perfectly so I don't really care about an explosive stage presence. It's not like every iconic band I see I think is amazing live (ex: Obituary suck balls live imo), Slayer just happens to be and I am elated to see them again at Mayhem Fest.

Obituary and Slayer are IDENTICAL live. They both play their songs spot on, they're both boring.

I'm with mastodon421 on this one; Slayer is the most insane band I've ever seen. As much as I enjoyed Maiden last night, they are second to Slayer live. With that said, I'd like to see both bands again; in the case of Maiden, standing much closer, and for Slayer, much further away :P

hey chris, I'm just giving you the heads up that Inspectah Deck is pretty awful live. His voice is more shot than dave mustains. Save yourself the trouble and money. I saw inspectah deck with Wu tang back in januarary of this year and he sounded fucking awful. Inspectah deck has always been the one member to blow it live, He was horrible at rock the bells in 2007, terrible in 2008 at the house of blues in hollywood, dreadful at Rock the bells in 2010, and don't even get me started at the wu tang show in anahiem back in January of this year...

RZA on the other hand....
