Ok so going to mayhem fest again this year but dont have huge knowledge of most of the bands. I really never have listened to anthrax, motorhead, as i lay dying, high on fire, whitechapel and slayer (listened to some slayer). My question is what are some songs i need to know for the show. I got pit tickets and dont want to be bored up until slipknot not knowing anything and only knowing the radio hits of slayer. so if you can please provide me a setlist that i could be expecting and songs i should know so i can start listening thanks guys.

Listen to any of Slayer's first five albums!

I guess with Motorhead, I'd start with the albums Ace of Spades, Overkill and No Remorse

For Anthrax I'd go with the albums Among the Living, Spreading the Disease, Worship Music, Persistence of Time or Fistful of Metal.

I'd personally avoid As I Lay Dying.

You really can't go wrong with any of High on Fire's albums, but I personally started on Death is This Communion.

I personally like Whitechapel's first album, The Somatic Defilement, but most people here hate them.

Hope that helps a little bit.

These are songs High on Fire will probably play, but they seriously rip and you should own all their albums:

Fertile Green (http://youtu.be/DX4yy3TwdvM)
Rumors of War (http://youtu.be/89h-X-tZa_w)
Snakes For The Divine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0VPVawpN8E)

For Motorhead, they'll probably just do a "best of" set, mostly. May include most of these:

Bomber (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2S9rwyQkJE)
Damage Case (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JE1ypEqW9x8)
Stay Clean (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvScReIRZOA)

Iron Fist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcS4fKwN3k0&feature=relmfu)
Killed By Death (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqQFWnVXXtc&feature=relmfu)
Going To Brazil (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd9mxnvHeCM)
Ace of Spades (I'm sorry but if you haven't heard this song before, then I suggest you stop listening to metal) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRE2Qp54gW4)
Overkill (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VNUyjRRjxM)

Here is some stuff As I Lay Dying will be likely to play. Their sets don't differ that much and there is a big chance that their set will have most of, if not all of these songs. But I recommend their other stuff as well:D

An Ocean Between Us
Paralyzed
Through Struggle
Confined
Forever
94 Hours
Parallels
Anodyne Sea
Beyond Out Suffering
The Sound of Truth
Upside Down Kingdom

It's okay, he spelt "you" wrong on purpose, meaning he's being sarcastic.

Read my schweet review of The Somatic Defilement:

As I Lay Dying is also probably one of the best mid 00's metalcore bands, I like 'em a lot.

I guess with Motorhead, I'd start with the albums Ace of Spades, Overkill and No Remorse

Or you could listen to good Motorhead albums...

Seriously, why go to a tour where you don't know any of the bands?

Anthrax is very predictable with their setlists. These are the songs that they will play at mayhem this summer:

Among The Living
Caught In A Mosh
I Am The Law
N.F.L.
Indians
Madhouse
Madusa
Metal Thrashing Mad
Antisocial
Got The Time
Earth On Hell
The Devil You Know
Fight Em Til You Can't

Among The Living, NFL and Medusa won't be played at every show but they'll probably make some appearances. The rest will without a doubt, one hundered percent will be played.

If you're not going to the first show of the tour you can always look up what they bands play once the tour starts and that will help you out even more. You can also use setlist fm as a cheat sheet to. Just see what the top ten played songs from each band are and that will point you in the right direction.

For Anthrax I'd go with the albums Among the Living, Spreading the Disease, State of Euphoria, Persistence of Time or Fistful of Metal.

Add 1916 and The World Is Yours to the Motorhead list and this is right on the money.

Maybe a friend invited him along, he thought it was a nice gesture, and it would be good idea to honor it you dickcheese.

Rockstar Mayhem is more or less a brand name. Most people have heard of it. It's like someone asking "Hey man, want to go to Bonaroo?"

I personally wouldn't go to Bonnaroo, but if everyone was like me, A Different Kind of Truth would be multi-platinum and Agolloch, Opeth, and all the other stupid folk metal bands would be out of a job. :D

Only valid if they're paying for the ticket or it's in some other way free. I know, one of your points in response to a simple question having limited validity is just shocking. :hmm:

Sure, contribute to the problem.

Surely the songs that he listens to before the concert has a huge say in what the band will play. Or maybe he just wants to play the odds, listen to the more popular songs and enjoy the concert.

That's precisely the kind of thinking that has led to Motorhead's sets being so boring in the first place.

Well, that and Lemmy's unwillingness to drop a bunch of them.
