Not to get anybody's hopes up needlessly, but my particular wet dream is that some or part of what is discussed in this interview (http://www.invisibleoranges.com/2012/01/interview-erik-wunder-of-cobalt-mans-gin/) might actually be coming to fruition - although the part I would have hoped for the most isn't likely to happen, because a certain someone (named Phil) will be off to drill sergeant school by the time this thing takes place. Still, it could be something awesome. Erik hinted around at this when I talked to him last year at one of his shows, so I know he really seems to be interested in doing something with Scion.

Last years scion rock fest had a great mix of death metal/extreme metal acts. From Immolation, Anaal Nathraakh, Morbid Angel, OBITUARY, and it was easily one of best shows that I attended last year, Hell it was THE BEST show that I attended last year!!!. Hell scion rock fest 2011 was easily one of the best shows I have ever attended period!!!, :rocker:

I'm almost positive we're going to get Saint Vitus. They usually like to pick bands on the Southern Lords list of artists and SV is on there and hasn't been picked yet.Just to clarify, Saint Vitus is currently signed to Seasons of Mist. They've never been on Southern Lord's roster per se. I do believe SL is looking to re-release one of their older albums sometime soon, but that's about it in terms of any relationship.

It could still happen, but I'm just saying it's not a slam dunk by any means.

So I just listened to Merzbow for the first time.

I hate doing valet but if it has to be done then it has to be done. I don't ever wanna go through the bullshit that me and my friends went through back in May of 2009. I went with a bunch of friends to go see Kreator and Exodus at the house of blues in Hollywood and some how my dumb ass friend ends up parking in an area which requires permits.

anyways...

After a couple of hours of intense moshing, we get out of the Kreator show and find out that his car got towed, luckily one of our friends had an iPhone so we ended up getting direction to the place that towed his car and ended up walking for three hours on feet! on Feet!!! And we were walking in like the worst parts of Los angeles! And I should remind you that we were all very very tired from Kreator, and it didn't help that it was like two in the morning. We finally ended up getting the car back at like three thirty in the morning and I finally got dropped off in irvine at like Five in the morning. Pretty wack night and ever since that day i always make DOUBLE Sure that nothing like that will ever happen to me again. ahahhahahha every time i park in the houses by the Echo/echoplex i always ask the random citizens living there if it requires a permit, I know it doesn't but being extra cautious is always good, ahhahaha. :hmm:

I hate doing valet but if it has to be done then it has to be done. I don't ever wanna go through the bullshit that me and my friends went through back in May of 2009. I went with a bunch of friends to go see Kreator and Exodus at the house of blues in Hollywood and some how my dumb ass friend ends up parking in area an which requires permits.

And I should remind that you we were all very very tired from Kreator, and it didn't help that it was like two in the morning. We finally ended up getting the car back at like three thirty in the morning and I finally got dropped off in irvine at like Five in the morning. Pretty wack night and ever since that day i always make DOUBLE Sure that nothing like will ever happen to me again. ahahhahahha I every time i park in the houses by the Echo/echoplex i always ask the random citizens living there if it requires a permit. :hmm:

Dude, the area around the HOB in LA is so nice! It's literally right at the border of Beverly Hills  I've walked all around that area and been completely fine. You must have never been to the Black Castle in Inglewood. Now that is a scary place to walk around. My friend had a gun pulled on him less than a block from the venue after a show last week.

Well I won't be making this, I'm tired from MDF and just don't feel like making the 4 hour drive.

What an amazing day of metal! I would rank the bands I saw in order of awesomeness (best to worst):

Exodus
Decapitated
Revocation
Terror
Down
Sick of It All
Suffocation
Saint Vitus
All Pigs Must Die
Sleep
Repulsion
Ides of Gemini
Merzbow
Church of Misery
Cereberal Ballzy

The only ones I really disliked were Cereberal Ballzy. For the other lower rank bands, they all sounded fine, but they either weren't my style, or I didn't get to watch enough of them to really judge them. Regardless, I saw a ton of awesome bands, got a free poster and CD's, and got a guitar pick from Down! This day pretty much couldn't have gone any better.

I'm really excited to see someone's report on Exodus' set. I wonder if Rick Hunolt learned some of the new songs for example, who played who's solos, if they acknowledged Gary's absence etc. If the Bonded By Baloff show from last February was any indication, I'm sure Rick's stage presence and playing were great.

Sleep was the best...the crowd was going insane I was surprised.

Church of Misery ruled.

Origin was the most fun band I saw all day...the new singer is really good.

All Pigs Must Die were good too.

The other bands I saw I either didn't see enough of or missed, unfortunately.

Damn really? Would i be able to pay for parking if worst comes to worst???

There's usually spots right up the street where it curves. I want to say it's right by a park or something. Only a couple minute walk.

I have reliable parking spots for practically every LA venue I've been to so let me know if you want some info. I almost never pay for parking unless I'm running late. :D

Any spots for the Whisky? I'd rather not pay $15 for the lot behind it. :hecho:

I tried parking there and it said I needed a permit.

Yeah, I know two places but you still have to pay for both. There is a place on the same side of the street as the Whiskey. If you are driving past the Whiskey towards the Roxy, there is a small garage that is usually open most of the week. Its right before the signal for Hammond St. I usually pay between $7-10 at that place. It is sometimes closed, so then I go to the parking lot directly across from the Roxy and pay about the same price. Both are cheaper than $15.

Yeah, if you continue on Sunset past The Key Club you hit Doheny Rd I think. It's on the right side where Sunset goes to the left. Then you go past one stop sign and there's going to be parking in front of some big ass houses on Hillcrest Rd on the right side. It's a good 10 minute walk but I think it's worth it.

Also for HOB on Sunset I always find parking south of Santa Monica on Crescent Heights. It's also a good 10 minute walk up a hill but saves you 8 bucks everytime.

Hillcrest Rd? I'm looking at google maps and I don't see it. I used to park off of Doheny for free for a long time on Cynthia St, then they added a no parking without permit sign there and my friend got a $70 ticket.

Edit: I found it. So that place is cool to park? Thanks!

Nope, right above Van Pelt Pl in front of the park you're fine unless it's changed from a few months ago. There aren't too many spots but I found a place at the sold out Minus The Bear show so you have a good chance of getting one.

Yeah it's cool, I've been using that place for Whiskey, Key Club, Roxy, and Viper room for years. Not many people use it, most I've seen is 4 or 5 cars.
Sorry for hijacking this thread haha

For sure, glad to help. As long as you take a minute and read the signs you'll be fine. I got a ticket at the Troubadour because I was running late for Alcest I think and I parked one street before my regular spot on accident and got a ticket. But I've still saved hundreds overall.

I think I found the spot you're talking about but there is a 2 hour parking sign, and on the opposite side it says no parking any time.

While we are still on topic.....

I always find free parking when ever I go to shows at the El Rey theatre. Other than that, I always pay for fucking parking in hollywood. El Rey Theatre and Echo/echplex are the only places that I tend to find free parking when venturing in the lands of Los Angeles. I'll try and find free parking on tuesday when I go see church of misery but I'm sure it will just turn into a big flop. :D

@ Treghet. Good luck, I always end up paying for parking when ever I hit up shows at the Key club/roxy/Whisky. The cheapest one I found was like 8 bucks, but good luck finding cheaper ones.

Some of us have a pretty shittastic memory and a 15 minute walk from where I park to where the venue is will be a sure fire way on me loosing my car. Trust me. I won't lose the car, the car will lose me. If you get what i mean. :eyes:
