Until you turn 21, lower ticket prices and less knuckleheads
Definitely hoping we get some dates, missing the warm up show at a dive bar in Oakland last year kills me.

Ah what the fuck I didn't even consider this. Guess I can only hope that they'll play up here instead (with a reasonable 19+ age limit :finger:).

Holy shit this is gonna be awesome. I turn 21 the month before the show so this is a pretty sweet birthday present

If they were not playing on the same day as Church of Misery I would seriously take the trip down to the Bay Area for this. I actually made a trip down to the bay area back in 2009 for a hip hop festival in Berkley on the week of my birthday. I wouldn't mind doing another one... I kick myself in the balls everyday for missing Sleep last year at the Wiltern theater in Los angeles. Not only was it on the same week as my birthday but sadly i was stuck working at this persian market place, working full time over 50 plus hours with a tun fuck of overtime, and sadly i had a very unforgiving boss that pretty much lives off the word "NO", I would get lucky if I could manage to get myself off early, or get a day off to catch a show...or HELL...Just to get a day off.., Judas priest always comes to mind and my god was it a pain in the fucking ass to go to that gig, I almost didn't make it. Missing Sleep last year on the week of my birthday while I was stuck at work till 12 in the morning was a major bummer and a huge kick to the family jewels.

I really hope they announce an LA date, hopefully they do some shows before Matt gets on the road with Slayer and the other bands for Mayhem fest(which is on the 30th of june, which also happens to be the first date of the fest).

That sucks man I missed the beginning of the last SOAD show because of an asshole boss I don't work for anymore... other than that I've been lucky. Best advice is that if they won't give you a day off with notice they're probably gonna continue reaming it up your ass so get outta there.

Goddammit Sleep.. God fucking dammit to hell..

Sleep is playing on may 25th at the "I'll be your mirror" festival in London..

Then they are playing in Flordia at the Free Scion Rock festival

THEN they are playing two shows in washington…

THEN THEY COME DOWN TO THE BAY AREA TO PLAY A SHOW IN OAKLAND..

Seriously, would it kill them to just add one more, JUST ONE MORE DATE for Los angeles/Orange County surrounding areas? Fuck, i'll take san diego or riverside, HELL, Ventura! just give us a date goddammit!

If you guys are going to make the effort on playing in europe, then coming to florida, THEN flying down to washington, THEN coming down to the bay area/oakland, i just don't see why you guys can't add Orange county or los angeles as your last stop for the remainder of this…i donna what you wanna call it, TOUR?…blah, don't pull a "tool" on us..

:hmm:

Ouch. I'll be doing the same. It's only $35 with fees, so it ain't that bad.

Pike told me once that if he wanted to he could just live for years off of the money from just doing a couple of Sleep reunion shows at a time, they're that lucrative. This was around when they did that run of 5 shows in 2010, he said he could live off of those shows alone for like two years.

Damn. I don't know how well a club touring musician lives though.

Sleep? Lucrative? Matt Pike = High On Something

Chris_M_S

The reunion shows? Hell yeah, those made lots of money, at least the first ones, before they started doing them every year.

Well they did 2 nights in SF to about 2000 people with 3 members, I don't imagine the opener got paid much.

I think merch sales also play a factor in it too, I remember their shirts sold out frequently throughout 2011 and they had trouble fulfilling the sheer amount of orders. At the time, Jason Roeder's company was the one printing the shirts and so I can imagine their profit margins being pretty big.

Also, there were sponsors involved, and they get a chunk of change from that, as well. Ticket sales aren't the only source of revenue.

TonyD
04-29-2012, 07:50 PM
Yeah but I think it's safe to say that money is proportional to ticket sales.

Fuck, hopefully that's not true.

EDIT: My friend who was at Scion saw Sleep, so obviously Matt Pike is safe and sound here in the good ol'e US of A

Yep, saw Sleep at Scion Rock Fest today. I'm not quite sure I get their appeal though. They're very repetitive, as I only found small differences between each song (I only stayed for about 25 minutes though). They sounded good for what they were playing, but I don't see how what they play is considered "lucrative" to others. I guess they're just not my thing.

I will say that there was a bigger crowd for Sleep than any other band I saw, including Down (although Exodus played at the same time as them, even though Exodus wasn't as packed as I thought it would be).

They should come here and play a show in orange County or hollywood, goddammit. Still get pissed when I think about how I missed them last year on the week of my birthday. Was stuck at work making them washingtons and Lincoln's :flame:

Reminds me of when they played the first hometown show in 2010. I got there 40 minutes before doors opened worried that there'd be a massive line and I wouldn't get good spots, but I was the second person in line. And I got front and center rail. :rocker:

40 minutes before and only one other person in line? That's kind of sad.

Well the show was packed later. Considering the majority of the crowd were a bunch of stoners, it sort of kinda maybe a little bit makes sense.

Neumo's website doesn't say either show is sold out, so idk where you got that information from.
