Basically, Mike Smith says that he's lost the willpower to carry on with the band, and that Frank is with him on this too; therefore, Frank and Mike will be absent from the Suffocation line-up this year, and to leave in a good light, will be performing at all the scheduled shows for this year, the only US date being Maryland Deathfest. Bill Robinson from Decrepit Birth will be replacing Frank Mullen on vocals, and Dave Culross will be replacing Mike Smith on drums. After these shows, Suffocation's name will be put to rest.

Their new album, scheduled for release this year under Nuclear Blast will not be coming out either, even though the tracks have already been recorded.

Thank Satan one of those dates is here :( Fucking sucks.

My life has been ruined.

But wait, so Frank and Mike ARE performing at MDF and all the other dates? That part confused me.

That definitely sucks, makes me really glad that I got to see them twice.

I'm a little confused about the lineup part though, are Frank and Mike being replaced for those shows, or are they playing them?

@Solarian and GarageMetal: They won't; I specified that the dude from Decrepit Birth will be filling in for Mullen, and that Dave dude will be filling in for Mike.

@Christopher: Copied straight from the source, sorry!

Okay, thanks for the clarification. I was confused because your post also said "and to leave in a good light, will be performing at all the scheduled shows for this year" right after talking about Mike and Frank.

Suffocation is NOT breaking up. So let's put the rumors to rest regardless of what is being said.

I'm not sure whether to be happy they aren't breaking up or to be angry that my source was bullshit!

Hopefully it isn't true...I just can't imagine them playing MDF without Mike and Frank...it just wouldn't be right.

I was wondering why I only found out about this on here, since there's a Suffocation tour happening soon, a big European one, and there wasn't a whisper.

Plus, absolutely none of it sounds like anything Suffocation would actually do.

Solarian13
02-21-2012, 06:57 PM
Okay so this is totally unofficial and obviously we shouldn't buy into anything until we hear it from the band, but...

One of my good friends who plays in a local metal band met Guy Marchais' ex-wife at a show (she's originally from here), and she's toured with the band before and apparently said that they probably won't be around much longer and that Mike and Frank both want to leave. And my friend isn't the type of guy to make shit up either, he's travelling 8 hours to see them this weekend and when I told him they were breaking up (after I saw this thread originally), he said that he was expecting it and that's why he's going so far out of his way to finally see them.

So even though they're not officially breaking up right now, it's entirely possible that this is coming up in the not-so-distant future. Just thought I'd share this. Make of it what you will.

If that ends up being the case down the line, just one more tour. One more tour and I will go fucking insane for what I believe to be the best live band ever.

New rumor according to a metal-archives thread is that Mike Smith has left the band and that Dave Culross has rejoined. I don't know if this is true.

Metalsucks.com is reporting now that Mike Smith has left Suffocation, but they're sceptical too.

You can shoot me for saying this but I don't know if I'd be entirely crushed if Suffocation did break up. The last three albums have been pretty bad and my hopes are pretty low for the next one. Seeing them live is a different story but I'd rather see them leave now then release another few albums that aren't that great and tarnish their legacy.

Frank is gone for the remaining dates for the year only because of family matters and unresolved business back home; he'll be back afterwards. He's being temporarily replaced by the vocalist of Decrepit Birth (who did a HELL of a job being in his place, almost better I'd say) and Mike Smith, who is out permanently, is being replaced for the time being by Dave Culross of Decrepit Birth.

Did they play in Russia with that lineup? How dare you say he did a better job at Suffocation that Frank. They will never be Suffocation without Frank.

Bill is a great vocalist but nobody can fill Frank's spot. He's one of the best frontmen in metal.

Shit, and I was just psyching myself up over their MDF appearance.

Suffocation without Frank... What's the point?

OraclesofAgony
03-07-2012, 05:01 PM
Yeah, Suffocation without Frank is just wrong. But I understand they gotta go on while Frank handles his commitments. Im sure Bill is doing a great job but he can't compare.

mastodon421

I agree Suffocation without Frank isn't really Suffocation, but Bill Robinson is the perfect choice for a temporary replacement.

The album is still set for release, the band is not breaking up at the end of 2012, and Frank is only being filled in for temporarily. So not everything it said has happened.
