Most of the categories' "respective" nominees are bad enough, but look at the Most Dedicated Fans nominees. Are you fucking kidding me? I guarantee less than 1% of those "fans" are true metalheads. Fucking Black Veil Brides, gimme a fucking break.

Fuck all those bands. Slayer have some of the most dedicated fans ever, period.

But i'm glad they're not on that list :D

But they do have some of the most die-hard dedicated fans of all metal. and that goes for a lot of black/death metal bands too, once again, fuck those bands and this goddamn list. Hail satan :hmm:

No, people shouldn't be focusing on these awards at all. They're obviously garbage, yet every year people complain about them as if they expected some great nominees.

ravenheart
02-16-2012, 02:02 AM
It's not that people are expecting them to be better, it's that they continue to be shit. You shouldn't stop complaining about shit things just because they don't get any better. In fact, the longer they go on being shit, the more people should complain about them.

treghet
02-16-2012, 02:10 AM
It's a waste of time to complain about something that has never been good in the first place. I could complain about Black Veil Brides all day if I wanted to, but why should I? They're not relevant to my interests and they never have been.

This.

I'm pretty sure just the mention of Black Veil Brides in accordance with "metal" awards just made me throw up in my mouth. :barf: It's like whoever picked these awards has only heard of like ten pseudo-metal bands.

Thing is with these awards is some of the nominees do deserve an award for a category, such as Anthrax with Worship Music, but they won't get it. The best guitarist category at least has mostly worthwhile entries, the only ones there I wouldn't rate very highly is FFDP, and no, I'm not saying BVB are any good, their guitarist just happens to have some good lead chops. Best drummer has to go to Tomas from Meshuggah, but it won't. My main qualm with these award ceremonies isn't the entries being shit, usually they're not THAT bad, just on the more mainstream end of the spectrum, it's the fact the nominees are always the same.

ravenheart
02-16-2012, 05:31 AM
Most of the time they nominate whoever they think is going to attract the most attention. There is no logic to picking FFDP or BVB in any of those categories. Their players aren't that good, their music isn't that good, and neither of them are at all respected.

But they're both cool as fuck with the kids, so they both bring in the numbers.

The problem is that these aren't awards to celebrate greatness in the field, they're awards to make a quick buck.

Best Vocalist, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink®

• Sebastian Bach
• Andy Biersack (Black Veil Brides)
• James Durbin
• Amy Lee (Evanescence)
• Ivan Moody (Five Finger Death Punch)
• Jonathan Davis (Korn)

Most Dedicated Fans

• Asking Alexandria
• Avenged Sevenfold
• Black Veil Brides
• Evanescence
• Falling in Reverse
• HIM[/B]

All of them were jokes but these are the 2 categories that I have a problem with. It seems to me that James Durbin being up for best vocalist is somewhat of a joke but he's seriously the best candidate on that list. And you've got to be fuckin' kidding me with that dedicated fans list. HIM and Evanescence haven't been relevant in years, I've never heard of Falling in Reverse but i'm going to assume they blow, Asking Alexandria and Black Veil Brides will be forgotten within 2 years, so I hate to say it but Avenged Sevenfold is the best choice.

I know Revolver has always sucked but didn't it used to be kind of a metal magazine? Now it's basically one of those teen mags that always have Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez on the cover.

Comeback of the Year, presented by Eagle Rock Entertainment®

• Anthrax
• Dream Theater
• Evanescence
• Ministry
• Slipknot
• Van Halen

 Why is releasing an album after three years considered to be a "comeback" in the case of Dream Theater? Not sure if trolling or just dumb.

Seventhzealot
02-16-2012, 08:25 AM
But yeah the downward spiral for Revolver had begun with articles like "Hottest chicks in metal" and what not, so this wasn't really much of a surprise.

Having said so, on their website this list is being universally panned. So I wonder where are the "fans" to whom all this pandering was intended towards in the first place.

The only two actual comebacks on that list are Van Halen and Ministry, and the Ministry one hasn't actually happened yet, it's just been announced he's going to tour.

Well I can understand Anthrax being put there since it was their first record in seven years and it was also a return to form for them but doesn't every other band put out albums after three years?

Its just laughable how there's so much wrong with that list.

But in all seriousness, here is my take on this pile of aids.

Best Guitarist, presented by Epiphone®

• Jinxx and Jake Pitts (Black Veil Brides)
• Zoltan Bathory and Jason Hook (Five Finger Death Punch)
• Willie Adler and Mark Morton (Lamb of God)
• Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel (Machine Head)
• Dave Mustaine and Chris Broderick (Megadeth)
• Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu (Trivium)

This award should be for best new guitarist, but whatever, if Megadeth loses to any of these unworthy inferiors, I may punch my TV.

Best Drummer, presented by Drum Workshop®

• Charlie Benante (Anthrax)
• Jeremy Spencer (Five Finger Death Punch)
• Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters)
• Chris Adler (Lamb of God)
• Brann Dailor (Mastodon)
• Tomas Haake (Meshuggah)

I'm surprised that Joey Jordison or Vinny Paul aren't on here, but nice to see Charlie in. I'm actually not too ad about this one, aside from the 5FDP guy and Foo Fighters drummer in here. Nothing against Foo Fighters, but they aren't metal, ad the only award 5FDP should ever be nominated for is "Band With Most Untalented Tattooed Assholes" award.

Best Vocalist, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink®

• Sebastian Bach
• Andy Biersack (Black Veil Brides)
• James Durbin
• Amy Lee (Evanescence)
• Ivan Moody (Five Finger Death Punch)
• Jonathan Davis (Korn)

This is just sad. How about I pick none of them?

Album of the Year, presented by Marshall Amplification®

• Anthrax, Worship Music
• Evanescence, Evanescence
• Five Finger Death Punch, American Capitalist
• Foo Fighters, Wasting Light
• Korn, The Path of Totality
• Lamb of God, Resolution

None of these made my top 10. I'm pretty sure 3 of those sucked, and 1 isn't even metal. And the Lam of God release has be out for about a month now right?

Best Live Band, presented by Samson/Zoom®

• Avenged Sevenfold
• Foo Fighters
• Guns N’ Roses
• Judas Priest
• Seether
• Tool

Rammstein or GTFO!

Most Metal Athlete

• Gina Carano (MMA fighting)
• Brian Deegan (pro motocross)
• Evan Longoria (MLB baseball)
• Dirk Nowitzki (NBA basketball)
• Mitch Petrus (NFL football)
• CM Punk (WWE wrestling)

Really, who cares? and Deegan better not win!

Comeback of the Year, presented by Eagle Rock Entertainment®

• Anthrax
• Dream Theater
• Evanescence
• Ministry
• Slipknot
• Van Halen

None of these were true comebacks! I'm glad/suprised Black Sabbath wasn't nominated.

Riff Lord

• Scott Ian (Anthrax)
• Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society)
• Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters)
• Munky (Korn)
• Slash
• Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen)

David Davidson from Revocation!

Paul Gray Best Bassist, presented by Dean Markley®

• Frank Bello (Anthrax)
• Michael Anthony (Chickenfoot)
• Fieldy (Korn)
• David Ellefson (Megadeth)
• Nikki Sixx (Sixx:A.M.)
• Wolfgang Van Halen (Van Halen)

Jeroen Paul Thesseling!!!

Best International Band, presented by Musicians Institute®

• Behemoth
• Lacuna Coil
• Rammstein
• Sepultura
• Meshuggah
• X Japan

I'll give it to Rammstein just case I'm a fanboy. Still don't like the nominees though.

Most Dedicated Fans

• Asking Alexandria
• Avenged Sevenfold
• Black Veil Brides
• Evanescence
• Falling in Reverse
• HIM

All their fans suck. If their fans were as dedicated as their album sales were as high, they would be playing bigger venues!

Let's address the Manson thing. He was drunk and high it seemed plus his face looks like it had some bad botox. He's also fatter now. You couldn't understand 95% of the words he said and the only good things from his show were Taylor Momsen (who he kept grabbing her tits and ass and you could tell she wanted him to stop) and JOHNNY FUCKIN DEPP PLAYING GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!1

What Hell is About
04-13-2012, 08:15 PM
I saw the whole awards and it was an abomination from the get go. Dee Snyder and the chick from Halestorm didn't even know half the people they were interviewing and had to ask them who they were. The cues from the camera men were god awful and and overall presentation was just so sloppy I thought I was watching a high school production.

Jose should've been on the black carpet with the bands instead of with the million Manson fans up on a balcony. Jericho was actually a pretty good host but many times the crowd's response to his segments were awkward and he even commented on some of it.

The live performances were absolutely horrible. And I don't mean the bands themselves, but the effort and vocals of everyone from Manson to Alice Cooper were horrific. The chick on the Manson guest song was barely even turned on (the mic not her). Kudos to Johnny Depp though he picked a bad year.

I feel bad because metal deserves its own award show but the people picked to represent the genre have all had more than the lion's share of the limelight. It's time to get some more exposure for bands that haven't been around for 20 years at every rock related event. Burton and Dino from FF presented an award and didn't even market their upcoming record or single which drops this month! These guys have influenced so many bands and like them or not they were treated like nobodies.

How does Slipknot get "Comeback of the Year"? Regardless if you like or respect them, what did they really do in 2011 or so far in 2012? I can see next year after Mayhem Festival but come on.. I can't stand Avenged Sevenfold and even though the Rev died they kept going, even they are more entitled to such an award.

This shit was a joke even for commercial rock/metal. European bands pretty much didn't even exist. The old guys keep hanging around with the same classics and keep the younger bands from any kind of exposure or chance to become stars. I don't expect extreme bands from internet-created genres to dominate the show but surely we all can agree it's time some other groups get some time.
