Almost guarenteed that's what it is about.

Or maybe they are going to sell out and announce a Greatest Hits album.

I'd be LESS offended if they just put out a website that "GAVE FANS THE EXCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITY" to donate money to Lars.

I would honestly put money on a MetallicaFest or something similar. Obviously because in the video it lists every festival they played and why else only list festivals they played at instead of cities? Plus if it ended up being "But you've never seen them... in 3D" it would be stupid because the people that have seen them live actually did see them in 3D.

For what its worth Lamb of God is touring the US this summer playing amphitheaters... I have a hard time seeing LoG headlining in amphitheaters. Considering Metallica likes taking them out maybe it is summer tourdates. You would think only playing 2 shows in the east would be something they do with the Big 4 but last we heard more shows weren't likely to happen this soon according to Kerry King.

Well, as bad as Lulu is, I actually like a lot of Reed's solo material. I might check him out 15/06 @ the AB in Brussels...

I don't really like Cohen, but he has some extremely beautiful lyrics. Funny thing is: his new album went straight to number 1 in the ultratop here.

If it California/west coast shows then they've been certainly giving they market a lot of love lately. Big 4, The Dreamforce show, and the anniversary shows. I know they come from California but still...

As dumb as this sounds, when I saw Lamb of God in NYC I asked them why they were playing smaller venues, and they directed me to this guy to ask, and he said that it's to prepare to do big Amphitheaters in the summer, rather sure he said they'd headline too. LoG really don't sell enough CDs to do amphi's though.

Well, Slayer plays amphitheatres (or at least has played them as recently as 2006 without any co-headliner), and the last 2 Lamb of God albums have sold better than the last 2 Slayer albums. I'm sure LOG wouldn't fill them up, but getting them to half capacity probably wouldn't be a tough feat.

If Metallica can't spear head a metal majority festival somewhere, nobody can. Some of those bands were definitely picked by Metallica, Lars is a huge Arctic Monkeys fan, but I'd lay a safe wager most were selected by promoters who said the festival will not sell to the size Metallica want without them.

That said, you guys are getting Ride The Lightning in it's entirety, so suck it up ;)

If that's the lineup and there are two Metallica headlining set then this is very much worth the money.

Liturgy - been wanting to see them since I heard Aesthethica, the Black Metal elitists can suck a cock
Gaslight Anthem - gonna be fun
Modest Mouse - see above
The Sword - been wanting to see them again since Metallica in '09
Gary Clark Jr. - modern blues badass, not much else to say besides he's awesome
Roky Erickson - rock music owes a lot to him, a legend
The Black Angels - they remind me of Zep sometimes, which is always good
A7X - haven't seen them yet, don't understand all the hate that they get, not the biggest fan but still
Fucked Up - they have a lot of hype around here and I'd want to see them
Cage the Elephant - saw them at the DC101 Chili Cook-Off in 2009 and they tore it up

....I'll call it a win.
Not HEAVY FUCKING METAL win, but it is one none the less. Excited to see a day of varied music and one of my favorite bands.

Why do you want to see the Metallica of 2012 play Ride the Lightning though? They butchered the shit out of most of the old stuff when I saw them in 2009, and any recent live video I watch on youtube sounds sloppy and tired. I can't imagine it would be any better now.

Actually, after some planning with a friend, I think I decided I can go! We're gonna each get the Met Club Ultra Pass (he has the membership, so that's a huge win for me), and that way we'll get right up front. Plus, while the rest of the lineup isn't metal, it is unexpectedly awesome. Avenged Sevenfold is a huge win, considering I thought they said they we gonna take a break for while, and Arctic Monkeys are personal to I also wouldn't mind seeing most of the acts. Plus, Black Album in its entirety and the first performance of all of Ride the Lightning? Holy shit this will be amazing.

All I'm saying is that live, they've been fucking horrible for a while now. If it was Load and/or ReLoad in full I would go and suck up the ticket + hotel + gas/tolls + food/beer costs. And since it's AC, you know gambling costs are gonna have to be factored in too. But that much $ for a totally shitty lineup and the need to see Escape & The Struggle Within just isn't enough sadly. 2.5 hours isn't a crazy drive, but can't commit to this unfortunately.

And if you've ever been to AC, you will know sleeping in your car is definitely NOT an option.

Why do you want to see the Metallica of 2012 play Ride the Lightning though? They butchered the shit out of most of the old stuff when I saw them in 2009, and any recent live video I watch on youtube sounds sloppy and tired. I can't imagine it would be any better now.The answer is simply that I haven't seen them perform a good number of the songs from that album, and it's one that I absolutely love. Today's Metallica may not be as strong as the 80's version, but I'll take what I can get.

That lineup is so pathetic. For a metal fest, sure. This isn't supposed to be that, though. It's supposed to be a "Metallica-curates-a-summer-rock-fest-and-headlines-both-nights" thing. Which in my book, isn't the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

EDIT: If Metallica showed up at Coachella or Bonnaroo and headlined not one but several nights, half of you people would be all like WWWWWOOOOOOO METALLICCCAAAA!!!! WWWAAAHHHOOOOOOOOOO!!! TAKE THAT YOU PUSSY ROCK FAGS!!!!!

You are right on that. But the thing is, with them playing Ride the Lightning, metalheads are going to be attracted to it, and that contradicts what the lineup is geared towards.

Alrighty. I'm just saying I've already seen every single one of those RTL songs besides one of course, and the other album isn't that great to begin with, I've seen all the hits of course, Struggle is the only real thing left to see.

Besides, they sais it's the only No. American performance for 2012 of those records, so that leaves the door open for future years, which is ok with me, I can wait.

There's only one general ticket choice that's only $150 for a 2-day pass. It's actually the early bird special and it's suppose to raise to $175 some time later so it's better to get them now. It's actually cheaper to go to this than two regular Metallica shows .

They should make this a yearly thing, and have at least one stage of just metal. They can put whatever other crappy things they want on other stages. It'd be the closest thing the US would have to a Wacken type thing if they did it right. They have the pull and the fanbase to get something like that off the ground.

They've played the same staples so many times that they do it without any excitement and sort of sloppily rush through them. I hate the new songs they play.
