Ivan's cleans are the one potential saving grace to FFDP. It's his Pseudo-tough guy act he puts on for the "harsh" vocals and cringe worthy lyrics that really drive me nuts. He was never a great lyricist even on that first album, but from War is an Answer onwards his lyrics have gotten so repetitive and much more terrible. And that wouldn't be all that bad (there are tons of bands I love whose lyrics aren't very good) if the music itself wasn't so mundane. It's not that they aren't heavy enough or anything. The songwriting is just not good.

The lyrics really are the number one thing wrong with this band. I feel like he thinks he's a rebellious 8th grader still. As Wolverine said, he tries to be like Anselmo with the tough guy lyrics but he just comes off as juvenile and/or cheesy.

If the Slayer/ Anthrax tour was real wouldn't Anthrax headline? They usually play bigger venues.

In 2010 I saw Slayer headline a tour over Megadeth where Anthrax opened every show. Sort of like a Big 4 tour without Metallica. I prefer Anthrax but no way will they ever headline over Slayer.

Soilwork's got a new album out in March as well. Though they're already embarking on a 2 month headlining tour that hits a lot of major markets from March-May. Would that affect their chances of doing a Package tour where they aren't the headliner?

Probably not. Most of the contracts make bands of headliner status not play certain cities for 3 months before or after the show.

Mine too, been a fan of theirs since 95 seeing them open for Slayer!:rocker: I agree, unless they get a co-headline or direct support on main stage. Even though they have headlined a 2nd stage before and rotated the main stage, they still did only get 40-45 mins.

Super excited to see Behemoth on it again tho! Hopefully this may bring about more bands like they had in 2009!

I heard Grim Reaper is going to headline the revived Sounds of the Underground tour next year.

But seriously where did you hear Machine Head and Behemoth were on it next year? Like stated before, It's pointless seeing MH at this festival or any band that isn't a co-headliner. 30-35 minute set for any of the lower billed bands, which are usually the bands you want to see. About a 45 minute set for the 3rd slot (Motorhead, Megadeth, Lamb of God)... Yeah this "festival" is great...

A friend who lives in the Knoxville, TN area where Halestorm/In This Moment played last night messaged me saying that members of ITM were on the local radio station for a interview & stated they were playing a big US tour in the summer with Rob Zombie & Deftones.

So Mayhem Fest is shaping up to possibly look like this:

Rob Zombie
Five Finger Death Punch
Deftones
HellYeah
In This Moment

With possibly a Nuclear Blast Records stage.

Deftones tour dates avoid most Mayhem Fest cities except for the make up dates of Boston and New York. Its starting to make the tips I got about the In This Moment interview (where they said they are playing with Zombie/Deftones summer of 13) seem more truthful. I tried to find the interview on the radio station website but could not. I did find the radio station facebook page and they did in fact interview ITM the day the people who tipped me off said it happened for what that is worth.

I have heard that Mayhem Fest is not hitting Cinci or Portland and that as of a few weeks ago when they were routing the tour there may not be shows in St. Louis or Atlanta.

The KC Mayhem show was fairly weak last year, I think, just based on me looking at the crowd all day. I would be surprised if the tour hits OKC this year, the organizers were very dissatisfied with the venue. The St. Louis show did pretty well last year, as did Atlanta (reacting to previous posts in the thread). I'd say Atlanta was actually one of our better shows, I was crazy busy all day, those people came to buy some stuff. Cincinnati was a really weird venue because of the way it's laid out, the second stage was actually in a smaller adjacent structure, not just out in a parking lot, which made it tricky logistically to centralize things. Also that was probably the worst weather day of the tour, lots of vendor tents got destroyed and there was the potential for people to get hurt, which may have soured them on that venue.

I went there in '10 for Mayhem. I don't see how that went there more than once. The stage times had to be different b/c of lack of a 2nd stage. And the best part was, when it came to in between song talking there was to be no vulgar language. I wish I was making this up but sadly I am not.

Yeah, I was there in 2009, I think, whatever year Manson was on it, it was the final show of the tour. They had a big sign in his dressing room about the swearing, and he just went out there and swore his ass off. They had the same rules this year, and I think Betraying the Martyrs were the first band to break it, then Asking Alexandria did it a bunch of times. I had a profanity tally going on the dry erase board in the Metal Blade tent. I didn't watch any of Slipknot or Slayer this year, I don't think, that was a super hot day and I just went and sat on the bus and watched movies until we left. I wish there was some sort of outdoor amphitheater setup in Norman instead of OKC, just so I could go wander around my old college campus again and act cool because I knew where everything was.

Yea. Rob Zombie in '10 was the biggest offender for the swearing. That is just the most stale environment to have a show if you have to watch your language. I wish they'd do something closer to Tulsa (I'm getting greedy bc its a shorter drive).

I went to an offdate with Lamb of God the day after their last Mayhem Festival date, and Randy mentioned that they weren't allowed to swear onstage because it was too close to a zoo with small children; a $2,500 fine awaited everyone who uttered profanity. He then went on a fifteen second "speech" consisting of nothing but swear words to make up for lost time in Oklahoma.

And it's not just a blanket fine, it's apparently 2,500 per utterance.

And now I'm thinking of a foodie metal band called Cannibal Course, and I'm not sure if that's the stupidest thing ever, or just odd enough to work...

"Let's see, we'll open with 'Staring Through the Eyes of the Bread', follow up with 'Skull Full of Baguettes', chase that with 'Pit of Coffee' and end it with 'Hammer Smashed Plate'. That sound good to you guys?"

That being said I can see this lineup

Rob Zombie

Machine Head(headlining set)
Behemoth

NUCLEAR BLAST:

I really, really hope Deftones are on it, but preferably not in last year's Motorhead slot, otherwise I'd miss most of their set every day while loading out (if I do the tour again, that is, I probably won't know until April or so). I was thinking the other day that Behemoth would be a good fit, since a new album should be around the corner and they did Mayhem '09. I know they haven't done Mayhem before, but Dillinger Escape Plan should have a new album out around then, and have done Warped a bunch in the past, I don't know if they'd be interested in making a jump to Mayhem or not. They tend to shy away from super-metal lineups sometimes and do different things.

a large chunk of the trespass venues were in the 5,000-7,000 range. only a handful were over 10,000 (which doesnt necessarily mean that many people were there, not to mention some of them could have been half arena). they also downgraded the mass show from the centrum (15,000) to house of blues (2,500), which was the second time in a row 5FDP had to downgrade a mass show (time before was lowell to the palladium).

No, I mean loading the trucks up from second stage - those of us working out in the festival area couldn't call it a night and go watch the bands on main stage until our trucks were loaded and off to the next show. Usually we'd finish up about halfway through Motorhead's set. I'm not sure why they didn't play it that night, they played it pretty much every night. There must have been a time crunch or one of the guys wasn't feeling up to it. That wasn't a particularly hot show, but it was third to last for the tour, so they may have been a bit wiped out.

Behemoth was great on 2nd stage in '09, just pummeling for like 35 minutes and out of there.

Hopefully this is a good sign for me. Last year I didn't do any signings at the Metal Blade tent, Whitechapel did one at the Rockstar tent and As I Lay Dying did a signing at their tent if you preordered the new album. Behemoth might do a similar preorder thing, or there's the possibility that they could be the daily signing band at the Revolver booth, which was almost always next to mine.

Orion: I am pretty sure I can talk about that; I don't think it is confirmed yet but we are coming back to the States this summer to play on the Rockstar Mayhem Festival. This will be the very first thing we will do before the new record comes out. After that we plan on doing some other festivals, but they are not confirmed yet neither. We have done quite a few European festivals this year (ed. 2012) and I am not sure if it would be the best thing to do before the album comes out.

I would hope for Somerset, WI because of Knotfest last year. The town stopped having Metal shows well over a decade ago because of Sharon Osbourne being a total bitch the last time Ozzfest came around. So they wanted to experiment with Knotfest, and if the reception was good and nothing bad happened (riots, rapes, etc) then they would start get festivals back. Even back then I heard Mayhem was in talks. But that could have been just a rumor as well.

I hope a few more old school bands get added. It was mostly older dudes buying the Metal Blade swag. "I was listening to Metal Blade since 1984!" or whatever, I heard that all day, every day.

I was hoping for a Buffalo date again this year even though it wasn't the full Mayhem tour this year just 4 bands.

The dates on this are really odd with most of the weekdays wide open unless they are planning on adding a bunch more dates. I know they were planning on making more tour dates on weekends as those dates understandably sell better but still seeing a break from Sunday until the next Friday is strange.

Chris_M_S
01-07-2013, 01:45 PM
Guaranteed, there are more dates, they couldn't afford to keep buses out with full crew for that long without there being shows.

And I'd love a Buffalo off-date again - even though it was only main stage, the whole crew went and we got to spend the day at the amusement park next door. I was on a roller coaster called the Mind Eraser while listening to Slayer in the background, it was pretty badass. That night we had a party where Scott Ian was DJ and it was metal as fuck.

Haha that was a fun day at the rodeo grounds, too. I think I met more guys with swastika tattoos that day than I had in my life. The 3rd is my birthday, so I was in a bit of a stupor from the night before, but it was a good time. I played a lot of football that night with Upon a Burning Body and then had to show the Frenchmen from Betraying the Martyrs how to throw a football. Damn Europeans! Overall that was a good day.

I am hearing they want to add a St. Louis show but Live Nation was not happy with the lower than expected turn out last year. Also, as stated before, notice they are focusing on weekend shows. There will probably be a few weekday shows each week if I had to guess or several off dates in the cities that are skipped. I expect a few more shows to be added but not too many.

They do that with half of the fucking summer shacks.

Boston/Mansfield
Indianapolis/Noblesville
Cleveland/Cuyahoga Falls
Buffalo/Darien Lake
Kansas City/Bonner Springs
Detroit/Clarkston
Pittsburgh/Burgettstown
Chicago/Tinley Park
Washington DC/Bristow VA
Denver/Greenwood Village

I supposed it's done for merchandising reasons. I mean, I suppose people would want to see a recognizable city on the back of a shirt.

Still, at least acknowledge that you're nowhere within walking distance of the major city in association.

Bruce Dickinson kept saying "SCREAM FOR ME BOSTON" at the last Iron Maiden show I saw, and I couldn't help but think to myself that the Comcast Center is closer to Providence, Rhode Island than it is Boston.

Alex Koheler's side band, Heart In Hands, performed here last night on the Chaos Reborn Tour with Impending Doom, and he told me they are on the Fest.
