I'm stoked for that one, my cousin lives right there on the water so I've only seen that venue from Penn's Landing, it looks like it will have a pretty sweet view of the city.

WARRRRRDANNCCEEEEE

The pit is going to be insane when Indians starts. No way they don't play it.

WOLVERINEKILLS
05-09-2012, 10:04 AM
Exactly. Anyone who thinks they should drop Indians is fuckin clueless as to what that song has done for the band, what it means to the fans and how the WARDANCE adds more to the Anthrax concert experience than anything else they play.

This will be Anthrax's set at Mayhem for sure:

Earth On Hell
Caught In A Mosh
Got The Time
Fight Em Til You Can't
Antisocial
The Devil You Know
Indians
Metal Thrashing Mad
Madhouse
I Am The Law

It might not be the exact order but you're fooling yourself if you think the set will be anything but this. Maybe MTM, TDYK or another song gets rotated out for ATL or NFL at some shows. Unfortunately, that's about all the variety you're gonna get out of them on this tour or any other one for that matter. It's too bad they don't realise was a great back catalog they have with the Belladonna stuff. It's also very likely they're too lazy to try anything different and just wanna stick with the songs that got them the most success. Even though I don't recall GTT being that big of a song for them. There's no need for that to still get played over all the great songs that are on POT. But the song is simple and easy to play, so they stick with it so they don't have to try too hard.

Back in the day GTT was played on Mtv/Radio alot more than Antisocial or any other Anthrax song. Earth on Hell needs to go, there are better songs on that album imo.

anomynous
05-09-2012, 10:14 AM
Nope, it's the perfect opener.

GTT needs to go permanently. Replace it with literally anything else off PoT.

Deadseason does suck. I've only seen them once (Mayhem Fest last year), that must suck being from Maine and having them play non-stop. Acaro is one of the few bands that plays around here all the time and they are fucking great.

So I noticed the other day that the Houston date is an evening-only show. Whitechapel and HOF are not playing, so it looks like it's just main stage and the rotating main stage opening bands. Does anyone know why? I thought the amphitheater in Houston was supposed to be one of the more prominent ones in the country, I'm surprised that they're changing the format for that date. Haven't they done Ozzfest and previous years of Mayhem there before?

So apparently the Houston venue can't do daytime shows because of businesses in the area or something, so it's going to be a shortened second stage in the early evening running simultaneously to the main stage. Someone posting on the Mayhem site said they contacted the venue people, and got a schedule out of them, which is interesting:

JAGERMEISTER STAGE

Jager Band 6:00-6:20
ASKING ALEXANDRIA 6:30-7:00
AS I LAY DYING 7:15-7:45
ANTHRAX 8:00-8:35

Rockstar Energy Drink Main Stage

DEVIL WEARS PRADA 6:15-6:45

Chris_M_S
05-29-2012, 08:48 AM
I doubt they'd shaft the main stage bands, so ignoring the weirdness of the second stage, this might be the proper times that the main stage bands will be getting all tour. It is roughly the same as in the past, an hour or just a bit more for the headliners. Over by 11.

Orion89

yeah the front seats are removable. theres a pit for the 311 show there so im sure there will be for slipknot.

you know though, the more i think about it, im starting to wonder if maybe maine might get a slipknot date too. they have 3 days to kill between hartford and gilford, and mayhem pretty much hits every major market to the direct west of new england, so they really dont have anywhere else to play. unless they just take those 3 days off, but thats pretty unrealistic.

Yup. Exactly. There was a time when Hot Topic was a pretty fucking cool. I'm talking about 1999-2001 era, they had some really awesome shirts back then. I remember I got some really cool Metallica shirts there back in 2001, and they also carried some pretty dope Judas priest shirts too, same with Sepultura. Fuck, this is a huge bummer for me. I've toured with HOF before so I knew them best out of any of the other bands, and I'm friends with their merch girl, too. I was just listening to some of their stuff today to get further stoked for the tour. I hope the replacement is someone awesome. But they have the opening second stage slot, which may not be super appealing to the better bands who don't yet have summer plans, so it's possible it could just be stuffed with filler. Hopefully they don't do that.

Anyone want to start making guesses?

Looks like I'm in good shape if it keeps up!

Yeah, I don't think you'll have trouble. I think they stopped selling lawn tickets for that show to encourage people to buy reserved. If anything, there will be some deals coming up, maybe a Groupon or something like that, or buy one get one free or whatever.

They didn't even start selling lawn tickets. The Comcast Center won't even sell lawn tickets to a metal show there unless it starts selling pretty well when they first go on sale (Iron Maiden is the obvious exception because the show is pretty much sold out). I am really confused why they are selling so low so far. I think I'm finally getting my tickets next week, but I'm not too stressed if I don't because there is a shitload of tickets left (especially in Open Air Reserved, where I am getting my seats).

Yeah, that one is pretty packed. They just released more floor seats, I think. Almost out of reserved. The San Francisco show is totally out of reserved, which is fun.

Not sure who lands that spot but wouldn't be suprised to see Shadows Fall, Lacunca Coil, Skeletonwitch, Overkill, Chimaira or (gasps) Kittie. Would love to see Down added & Whitechapel bumped down to the HoF spot. Crowbar would be cool & really deserving of that spot!!!

Do you even think they will get a replacement for HoF's Absence?.....or will they just continue on with out a replacement for the the entire fest? If they do get a replacement, hopefully they announce it sooner than later, the show is in three weeks. My show happens to be the first date :(

I would imagine they would look for a replacement this week and if they haven't landed one by next Friday they will just say fuck it and change the schedule. I would venture a guess that an E1 or Century Media band lands in that spot. Probably a US band so they won't have to worry about passport issues.

Oakland, CA metal band HIGH ON FIRE has announced that it will be forced to miss this summer's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival as celebrated front man and guitarist Matt Pike (also of SLEEP) enters treatment for alcohol rehabilitation. The award winning power trio (also featuring drummer Des Kensel and bassist Jeff Matz) will put its scheduled touring plans on hold indefinitely as Pike takes the necessary steps towards regaining his health.

"High on Fire would like to thank everyone involved with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for the opportunity to be a part of this year's tour," said the band in a statement.

"We regretfully will have to bow out as our friend and bandmate begins his recovery, but very much appreciate having been asked to be a part of this summer's festival run."

HIGH ON FIRE's new album De Vermis Mysteriis was released on April 3 via eOne Music and debuted at #61 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart in its first week of release. The album's charting position represents the highest of the band's storied 14 year career.

Instead of getting a band to replace them they should just give Anthrax, Motorhead, Slayer and Slipknot an extra song each. Let's be honest, more than likely whoever they get to replace HOF isn't gonna convice a ton a people to go all of a sudden. You may as well give the extra time to the bands that are actually responsible for selling the majority of the tickets for the tour.

Yeah, the last time I talked to High on Fire's camp was June 1, and they were still talking like they were involved with the tour. Exactly. Bands that are in the same demographic as far as modern day success as HoF would be Chimaira, Shadows Fall, Crowbar, Bleeding Through, Skeletonwitch or Prong. I believe, depending on their summer touring schedule - which I have zero knowledge of, that Shadows Fall and Chimaira are at the top of their 'replacement' list.

Exodus isn't unrealistic (I guess), but Skeletonwitch 100% isn't doing it because they are doing a headlining run in early July. I can't even begin to venture a guess of what band has the slot. DEP would do it totally on a lark and to move the rest of their Option Paralysis-era merch. Ben said they were done touring the record but would do something else awesome if it came up. Maybe they think the 2nd stage lineup blows and would treat it like Nile in 2006 when Karl was like "We're going to be like the Germans gunning people down at Omaha Beach" or whatever insanely brutal thing he compared their set to

Yeah, I don't think they'd shuffle the order of bands around, they'll just get someone they can punch right into that spot. That nixes a lot of bands that either have a lot of pride or think they're too big to go on at 2pm in a parking lot. I'd be stoked for Prong. I guess Danzig doesn't have any dates so it could be possible. Though I don't think Slipknot necessarily has a ton of input or really cares about who is on second stage, like some people have suggested. Although Dirtfedd's presence on the Sumerian stage, even though they're not on Sumerian Records, is probably some Clown influence, actually, since he's working with them. I don't see how Prong is unrealistic

The fact they are doing a few headlining shows and touring w/ Clutch from July 8 - July 22 would make this unrealistic.

I would guess it will be Shadows Fall, Chimaira or Crowbar.

Anyone is a possibility. Most smaller bands would leave other tours for Mayhem Fest due to the exposure. I wouldn't be suprised to see a Century Media or eOne band land that slot.

Crowbar has festival dates in Europe, but Chimaira and Shadows Fall are free. I feel like I've seen those bands open touring fests like 50 times, so I hope it's someone that doesn't feel overexposed (at least to me)

I agree. Kill Devil Hill would be nice, not sure of their schedule though.

I forgot about the Clutch/Prong dates, it should also be noted at least at the moment Crowbar and Prong share a member so keep that in mind

Shadows Fall probably wouldn't do it because they'd be billed lower(much lower) than last time

I feel like Bury Your Dead could be possible

All the good bands on Sumerian:
After the Burial
Born of Osiris
Conducting from the Grave
Enfold Darkness
The Faceless
Periphery
T.R.A.M
Veil of Maya

(I haven't heard Dead Letter Circus so I can't comment on them). Unfortunately all of those bands minus Conducting from the Grave (and T.R.A.M who wouldn't fit on the bill) are on another summer tour so Mayhem Fest was left with a majority of the mediocre and bad bands on Sumerian.

I wouldn't be suprised to see several smaller record labels have stages at Mayhem Fest. Century Media, Sumerian, Relapse, etc. It would be similiar to Warped tour with several bands playing at the same time.

According to an interview with Kevin Lyman the "3rd stage will be running all the way up until Slayer". If the same system of alternating bands from stage to stage sticks around it seems like Anthrax might overlap with Motorhead.

If this is true, I don't understand how they can overbook a tour like this. What's wrong with booking one less band for Mayhem and giving the fans a half hour break between the side and main stage? I guess that makes too much sense to allow the fans attending to be able to see all the bands on the bill instead of having to choose. Sometimes less is more.

Not that I care about too many of the side stage bands this year (Anthrax, As I Lay Dying, and Whitechapel are the only ones I want to see), but having them run through the main stage is just fucking stupid. The way they ran it the past three years was perfect and I don't understand why they would change it.

Yeah, I just listened to the interview, and he did say the side stages would go 'up until Slayer,' and talked about having more time in between bands. I kind of hope he misspoke, otherwise that means I'm going to miss Motorhead every night, we'll see.

In other news, here's my arm and my tent, was setting up my stuff at the Metal Blade offices last week - got all our CDs and vinyl in (including Slayer vinyl and Japanese import Slayer CDs), clothing merch comes in tomorrow.
