Basically Manks got on his twitter and encouraged some of his friends to post here claiming I was having a 'meltdown'. He is making various claims of me ripping off pukeboxmetal.com. The place where everyone apparently goes for shitty metal reviews (their facebook page has a whopping 200 something 'Likes' so there may be a few people there who disagree with my sentiments). So everytime I post he follows it up with some cheapshot aiming for attention or to belittle me or my website which is funny because some people who know him in person claim he's far too prissy to do that to anyone face to face.

NickLed has his panties in a wad because I called his Mayhem Fest prediction wrong even though he lucked out & got 2 of the bands correct. His 'friend' talked to one of the bands who told him Korn, A7X, Asking Alexandria and In This Moment were locked in. He got butt hurt when I told him it was BS. Whats funny is ITM conducted an interview a few days ago saying they were considering different summer tour offers even though Nick's 'friend' says they were on the tour months ago. They may play but it would be coincidence unless ITM is BSing. Plus he was mad because I called him out on harassing my ex gf for nude pics constantly.

So that is where the drama is stemming from. You will probably have Detuned chime in with a link and a story about this via theprp.com in a few minutes.

lol I stopped reading this when you said pukeboxmetal.com. Are you in the 2nd grade or something where that would have been funny?

Seriously. At least JukeboxMetal has something to offer instead of just copying and pasting shit that's readily available elsewhere on the web.

Some would call what Wolverinekills does plagiarism on a terribly dated site. I think he is just trying to create an aggregate list of articles and rumors, sans attribution, while bringing back a retro geocities style of web design.

The 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival is announcing this year’s cities and venues next Tuesday February 18 at 10AM EST with the lineup announcement coming March 31st and the ticket on sale beginning on April 5th. This year’s odyssey will include four stages of Heavy Music and 19 Bands. Also look for Freestyle Motorcross and a Motorsports exhibition area and many other surprises and attractions.

Yeah that's been there since day 1, that announcement kinda over sells the obvious. Assuming the Sumerian Stage is happening again(which last year only had one Sumerian band).

Steev
02-13-2014, 07:48 AM
Also March 31st is extremely late for the announcement. Probably waiting for someone's US tour to end.

slapguitarer
02-13-2014, 08:15 AM
So I just realized it said 4 stages and 19 bands. That'll be interesting

EDIT: Just realized that that includes the mainstage and the 4th is probably just Sumerian stage. Carry on

Yeah the Sumerian stage never really materialized the way they hoped, last year it was just like "hey another local band with interchangeable words in their name" and Scorpion Child

slapguitarer
02-13-2014, 08:24 AM
Even so, if that means the regular 4 on mainstage and 15 others in the side stages, that's more touring bands on mayhem than ever.

pretty much all the major suspected bands that would actually warrant holding off the announcement are all touring and doing the spring fest circuit after march 31st. but i really cant think of another logical reason for them to delay so long. guess we will see. not that it matters, im sure we will have a good idea long before.

Last year had 17 touring bands, not far off. The Sumerian ran the same time as the MI stage last year though.

Why?

Dez announced he's taking the summer off to be with his family, and said no shows between July and September

Killswitch is very likely to be headlining This is Hardcore(which conflicts with Mayhem unless they play July 25 between dates in MA and PA, but then within the week they'd end up back in the area for the Camden date)

It wouldn't shock me. Joe Hardcore said the main headliner will be a band he loves thats been around for awhile.

Now KSE would be odd as I was thinking some old Punk band but I mean they have GWAR headline last year.

^this, plus they've already had bands that used to regularly tour with KSE before they got big(like Boysetsfire, who I saw KSE open for around the time Howard initially joined)

Could also be a further nod to Hellfest, whose last outing was 10 years ago to the day of TiH

By "more exposure" I really meant "gain more fans". I know their level of mainstream appeal wouldn't change with this tour, but it's still a chance to play in front of people who haven't heard them or even heard OF them before. Even though the music isn't that similar it's not completely inconceivable that an Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, or Asking Alexandria fan could turn into a fan of Cannibal Corpse as well. Maybe not right away, but the ones who are least familiar with who the band is might get that "push" in that direction if they see them live. The 2009 tour they were out with similar bands (Job for a Cowboy, Behemoth, Black Dahlia Murder) or main stage bands that were from the same era where those fans were likely already well aware of them (Slayer, Marilyn Manson). The closest band stylistically on this tour to them is Suicide Silence, so they'd be a bit more of the odd ball band on the tour.

Exactly, and it's already been said the previous Mayhem they did was very scene specific and was preaching to the converted(it also was the worst selling Mayhem as I recall).

This years lineup is all over in the best way possible. There's nu-metal, death metal, deathcore, metalcore, whatever the fuck you'd consider Asking Alexandria. There may even be some djent. It's a diverse tour without being so obscure it turns people off.

That's where I disagree. For me, the worst year was probably this past year and even though I wasn't thrilled with a lot of the bands initially, I still had a great time. I guess what makes me question people who post on these forums and the official mayhem forums is the narrowmindedness when it comes to who plays. It's not the rockstar mayhem death/thrash festival. There are going to be a huge variety of genres represented as that's the point of the festival, to bring out a variety of fans to listen to different genres of rock/metal. Furthermore, people bitch about repeat headliners, but fail to use common sense when thinking about why they were chosen. Consider conflicting touring schedules, the money to bring in huge headliners like say Metallica or SOAD, or simply enough that their are only so many headliner quality bands that would make people want to stay till the end. Its almost imvpossible to not have a big name headliner who isn't a repeat. I've been to every mayhem and 4 Ozzfests and every year its the same stuck up metal elitists who bitch about mainstream bands playing. I guess what makes me not take any of these comments seriously is that the year when sslipknot, slayer, anthrax, and motorhead played, which in my opinion was by far the best year, I distinctly remember people bitching that it was a horrible lineup just because Devil Wears Prada and AA were on it. I think this one's crap. The one with Slipknot, Slayer and Motorhead on it was OK, but three bands don't make a festival, and complaining about a shitty undercard is just as valid as complaining about headliners. Actually, more so for proper festivals (Mayhem doesn't have enough bands really, it's just a long gig). If you go to a festival you actually spend more time watching the lower bill than you do watching the headliners.

I meant Cannibal Corpse probably won't get nearly as much fans/exposure from something like Mayhem Fest because:

1. Cannibal Corpse is huge in the metal world
2. Everyone that goes to Mayhem Fest probably already knows of/is a fan of Cannibal Corpse

They'd make more new fans taking out bands in a different genre on a headlining tour, like they've done many times in the past (Dark Funeral, 1349, etc.)

They might know who they are, and know that they're a death metal band, but I doubt many of the fans of the mainstage bands are that familiar with them, so it's a chance to expose them to a new audience. You also make more new fans when doing a support tour than you do on your own headlining tour. And Cannibal Corpse has more in common with Dark Funeral and 1349 musically than they do with Avenged Sevenfold.

Yeah you'd be surprised what about 50% of the Mayhem crowd hasn't heard of already.

Cannibal Corpse isn't some super underground brazilian thrash metal band, they are the AC/DC of death metal in terms of popularity.

exactly. cannibal corpse's probability of expanding themselves to new audiences is pretty much at its peak. Everyone who is going to know about them already knows about them. That's why Mayhem Fest isn't going to do anything for them.

youre right, there isnt any 15 year old kids who thinks suicide silence is the heaviest thing ever, oblivious to anything that doesnt enter their facebook feeds, who would be exposed to cannibal at mayhem and become fans

i'm saying that those kids in love with suicide silence know of cannibal corpse. they are a non-factor to cannibal corpse when wanting to "gain new fans" or whatever.

BUT WE SAID AVENGED SEVENFOLD FANS AND STUFF!

I think you're not giving Avenged Sevenfold fans enough credit. They're aware of real metal which means they're probably aware of Cannibal Corpse.

Cannibal Corpse would play to many more of their own fans a night on their own tour than shoehorned to the 2nd stage at Mayhem Fest with DooDoo ButtNuggets headlining.

I stated they're likely aware of who they are, but maybe the live performance that they happen to see at the show they go to could push them in that direction. I'm not saying that every A7X fan is going to show up at 3 pm to check out Cannibal Corpse out of curiosity and that all those fans will buy up their whole discography and see them on their next headlining tour. But if they get maybe 5-10 new fans per show, I don't think that's unrealistic to assume.

Didn't Testament just open for Lamb of God? It's the same thing, unless you're headlining stadiums you can use the exposure.

I mean they're both Canadian so not a stretch(for awhile they had a tech/touring guitarist that was in Thine Eyes Bleed)

and for the hate I'm seeing on FB(all from people either 15 or 47) this will probably be one of the best selling iterations of the tour.

I know it's not a high bar, but Kittie are at least tolerable, and have gotten a bit better as songwriters as the years have gone on. Even though their best riff is a rip off of Lamb of God's "Laid to Rest", which itself is a potential rip off of "Into the Pit"

You know what guys, I saw Kittie last fall and they weren't that bad. Their metal songs are pretty good, their rockier songs not so much. I wouldn't buy an album or pay to see just them but if they're playing I wouldn't be opposed to watching. And believe me, get front row if they do play because their bass player is an eleven.
