I stumbled upon this on Metal Storm and it seems no one here has posted about it.

Almost as good as a cover as Ironbound (my favorite Overkill artwork). I wonder if it's the same artist.

I'm sure the album will be killer as well.

Not really THAT quiet. Loads of us named Overkill in our "most looking forward to in 2012" lists. They said they'd have a new album in the first half of the year a long time ago. They're just not one of those bands who wastes everyone's time (except brutal_descent's ;)) time posting every time they write a line of lyrics ;)

Looking forward to this like crazy. After two highly disappointing albums in ReliXIV and Immortalis, Ironbound was a thrash revelation. I can only hope The Electric Age continues down that road.

If it's half as good as Ironbound, it'll be top 10 material.

I didn't even look at that thread.

I thought Overkill would have been big enough to be posted about outside of that.

Regardless, I'm happy.

Apparently the announcement the band had about it is gone from their site. And I thought thev release date was March 27th? If it is the 3rd, they need to put that announcement back up again.

Went on the Nuclear Blast website and found some of the special packages available. Here's the $50 mail order edition.

http://www.nuclearblast.de/static/articles/192/192653-0-1.jpg/1000x1000.jpg

That media book includes the cd as well as a dvd of the making of the album. As far as vinyl goes they have 3 different versions. You can get it on picture disc, blue, or clear vinyl.

OMG this record is awesome, just got it yesterday. Wait until you see the artwork inside the album, there's a Lightning shaped Chaly in a dark sky overlooking some sort of power generation yard, gotta be NJ lol, it's awesome.

This.

Although I'm disappointed the special edition has nothing in it I want. Oh well, saves me some money.

Did you get it imported from Europe or something? It's gonna be a tough 3 weeks waiting for this album. At least i'll have Torture to hold me over. :bliss:

I used to work at Koch/eOne for years, so I still have contacts over there, they sent me a promo.

Some notes about a couple songs.

All Over But The Shouting - this song SCREAMS Exodus, and it's quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Old Wounds, New Scars - Best lyrical line of the album, "Got a lot of mouth for a Jersey white boy", wait until you hear the delivery

Yeah, mine's a promo too. Although it's digital because Nuclear Blast don't do physical promos anymore.

Sure, take Overkill for yourself. That's fine. I don't mind. :hmm:

That's how I got my copies as well.

Almost all of my promos come this way now. It works for me.

I miss the old days. Fortunately, it's still cheaper for tiny labels to do CDs than to invest in a secure digital system, so I get CD copies of the things it would cost me more to buy anyway, if I could even get them in this country at all.

Congrats Overkill!!!

"The Electric Age", the new album from New Jersey thrash metal veterans OVERKILL, sold 6,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 77 on The Billboard 200 chart. OVERKILL's previous CD, "Ironbound", opened with 4,100 units to enter the chart at No. 192.

Awesome. I don't think I like this one quite as much as Ironbound, but it's still pretty good.

Overkill = quality. Should've been as big as the big four, at least as big as Slayer.

Agreed. :D

I think I like Overkill's "classic" albums more than most of the Big 4's classic stuff.

Fair enough, they deserve some recognition. But they deserved it for other albums. This one's boring and repetitive. Or, in Blitz's words "more straight forward". Still better than most bands' efforts, of course. And they're still the best thrash band around.

Overkill + Havok + Suicidal Angels UK tour would be your dream, right?

I don't know if I'd say it's boring and repetitive, but it definitely seems a little formulaic, like they realized how great Ironbound was and how well it was received and decided to try and make an Ironbound 2. I agree that it still shits on most other bands' efforts though.

Throw in Angelus Apatrida and you've got yourself a deal.

And I think I'd take Korzus instead of Suicidal Angels, just because I've already seen Suicidal twice.

Definitely. On first listen I thought The Electric Age was good, but second time around I just felt like I was listening to the same song over and over. Ironbound had a lot more going for it.

I've read your reviews for ReliXIV and Immortalis, and from what I remember you gave them moderately favourable reviews. What's your thoughts on Electric Age compared to those two? I personally think Electric Age beats the living shit out of those, since they're Overkill's worst two albums to my humble ears.

Wow. That'a a huge increase. Too bad, since Ironbound is a far superior album, although the new one isn't bad.
