With the news that Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, his bandmates would like everyone to send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time. Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan--the “IRON MAN” of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.

This comes as Black Sabbath--Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums)--are writing and recording their first album in 33 years in Los Angeles (still set for release this fall) with producer Rick Rubin. They will now go to the UK to continue to work with Tony. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

My father had this exact disease and won two battles against it. Hopefully Iommi can do the same. Glad they caught it early, that is a good sign.

I wish him the best of luck. My father was diagnosed with terminal Lymphoma a year and a half ago and doctors were able to save him and prolong his life a bit. I hope Tony can be saved.

From my knowledge, this type of cancer when caught early can be treated and beaten. However, I think we can say goodbye to the Sabbath tour until at least next year :(

Well, this sucks. Hopefully it isn't anything major.

My boyfriends first reaction to this was, "Dio must want to get the band back together."

But on a serious note, thank god they caught it early. :(

Yup, I'm just glad they caught it early. Dio would have had a better chance of living if his cancer didn't go unnoticed for months.

I'm assuming the tour planned for 2012 is cancelled?

Not yet. The rest of the band are flying to England to work on the album here, apparently.

From what I've seen online, Tony has no intentions of cancelling anything, and the treatments, if all goes well, will have him fighting fit for all their scheduled activities.

Well quite, but Ronnie had no intention of cancelling anything either. Just saying.

This sucks. I've lost my mom and grandpa to cancer. Hopefully Iommi will get through this. Just crank your amps up as loud as possible Tony and scare that cancer away.

Unfortunately, the time where all the greats start getting ill/injured and dieing isn't that far away. They're all getting older.

I mean, take Tony. He's 63 years old. Plenty of people in their 60s get a bunch of illnesses and injuries just living everyday lives, let alone touring the world in a heavy metal band. It's to be expected. That's more with reference to his nerve damage in his hand, and things like Geezer's hip problem etc. Cancer is indiscriminatory.

Totally. Of all the older musicians, Tony and Ronnie are argubaly the two most important guys in metal. This totally sucks.

Strange thing is, you'd think that guys like Ozzy, David Bowie, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Lemmy & Glenn Hughes would go first.

I mean, they lived rock the hard way and were able to come through, more or less.

Well, Glenn has been very healthy for the long time. He's practically a tree-hugging hippie. His Facebook updates actually get pretty annoying! ;)

Haha, I'm more bothered by Toto. Anyway, sometimes you'll learn something interesting, like the fact that BC Communion is here to stay. ;)
