View Full Version : New MESHUGGAH Album Out March 27th

01-04-2012, 08:37 AM
Here’s some happy-making news to kick off your day: Meshuggah have announced a March 27 release date (via Nuclear Blast, natch) for their new album. Sure, they haven’t announced the title, unveiled the cover art, or released any new music, but… hey, it’s Meshuggah! At their best, they’re great, and at their worst, they’re still a thousand times more thought-provoking than most of their peers! We’ll be talking about this album for months and months and months and possibly years and years and years pretty much no matter what. So it’s worth marking the release date on your calendar now, even if there isn’t much actual news to report.

Here’s a statement from the band, which also tells you pretty much nothing:

“After a long time of deep soul searching and intense wrecking of the psyches, the new album is finally done. Soon you will meet this colossus that will pulverize your being. Welcome to the other side on March 27.”

The only thing I really take away from that little message is that the album or first single might be called Welcome to the Other Side or something, assuming we think that Meshuggah would ever be so cheesy as to hint at an album/song title through a de rigeur hype statement. But, again, whatever, ’cause it’s Meshuggah.

Well with new Baroness, High on Fire and Meshuggah, it's at least gonna be a better year for me.

I was never able to get into Meshuggah. Nothing about their music really wows me.

I think the Catch 33 artwork is cool, and I don't think that means they will sound similar. There are some things I don't like about the actual record but I still love it, it's Meshuggah's Dopesmoker.

> artwork looks similar
> albums will sound similar

Uh huh. Right.

Catch 33...Meshuggah's Dopesmoker.Interesting. It kinda is, isn't it?

Meshuggah have chosen KOLOSS as the title to their eighth studio album, set for North American release on March 27th and European release on March 23rd via Nuclear Blast Records.

Drummer Tomas Haake has issued the following warning:
“As always, we try to take our music in a slightly different direction with each album and with KOLOSS we feel that we really nailed what we were going for. Organic brutality, viscera and groove all crammed into a 54-minute metalicious treat, best avoided by the faint of heart!!”

Nice. I'm assuming that the album title is to be pronounced like the first two syllables of the words "colossal" or "Colossus", thus implying that the sound will be monumentally heavy / huge, but also with emphasis on the word "loss" which is obviously buried therein. So it'll be about hugeness and weight, but also about emptiness and despair.

They did a similar wordplay type of thing with obZen.

Awesome. Can't fucking wait. :fist:

I'm surprised nobody has updated, track listing and art from blabbermouth. Names seem a little different than what we're used to from Meshuggah.

01. I Am Colossus
02. The Demon's Name Is Surveillance
03. Do Not Look Down
04. Behind The Sun
05. The Hurt That Finds You First
06. Marrow
07. Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion
08. Swarm
09. Demiurge
10. The Last Vigil
