If they come to New Orleans, I'll definetely be going. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it would be on a second leg of the tour.

I think they would have been one of the few rock/hard rock bands who have enough mass appeal that could have pulled that off. Maybe next year if they haven't killed each other yet. I know that the SB headliner is usally announced months in advance.

I always say Van Halen or AC/DC should do it.
I'm surprised there's so little excitement from this board.

I don't see them being outrageously overpriced maybe the front sections
But I think reasonable priced tickets is a good bet

Assuming they play a venue I don't hate (meaning not the Forum or Gibson), I'd be game. I won't drop more than $50, though.

Maidenmagic
12-29-2011, 09:32 AM
I think it's guaranteed that you'll drop more than fifty. Out of the 4 concerts I've been to, only one was below 50.

MetalIsArt

I think they might come to the Lotto Arena here. It can hold 7,500 people, the Sportspalace next to it 15,000 but that might be a bit too much.

in '07 they did two nights sold out at an arena in Philly that holds over 20,000

I might be wrong but I think I recall when DLR was w/ them in '07 I remember hearing that upper level tickets in KC @ Sprint Center were still $75. I didn't go but I thought my friends told me that was the price.

I saw VH with DLR back in 08. Easily in my top 5 live performances of all time out of the 200 + bands I've seen live.

The opening band sucked. A good opener makes this tour even better. VH isn't metal and would likely choose a modern, non-metal band to open. Something along the lines of Black Stone Cherry, Sixx: A. M., or Airbourne would be ok. If they really wanted a good opener that would draw some attention they should get Chickenfoot haha

Registering a big zero on the surprise scale with that one, given that Tremonti is such good friends with the Van Halens and is one of the few people to have heard any of the new music before the album was finished.

Havent read any previous posts so sorry if this is old news.

I have a source that tells me they have organised most of the North America dates, and there is quite a few of them.

They are just bantering with the Sonisphere team now, organising a few festivals in the popular European countries doing the Sonisphere shows, so the only way you will see them in Europe is at a Sonisphere festival.

I think the hold up is financial stuff, they want a shit load of money basically

Kool And The Gang will definitely NOT be playing in Louisville, Auburn Hills, Indianapolis, Chicago, Ottawa, Sunrise, Nasheville, Tulsa, Tacoma, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Oakland or Anaheim.

They've either already got shows on those dates, or will be in the middle of/travelling to or from a trip abroad.

Alter Bridge will definitely NOT play Chicago, New York, Uncasville or Philli. They'll be on the Soundwave Revolution tour in Australia.

Alter Bridge will definitely NOT play Chicago, New York, Uncasville or Philli. They'll be on the Soundwave Revolution tour in Australia.

From reading the Alter Bridge interview where VH is mentioned it looks like this was back when VH was still playing Austrailia(which was obviously cancelled) as far as I know Alter Bridge has no plans of touring this year

And also, I hope that this is just b/c these haven't went on sale but it only looks like there have been 2 price ranges for tickets. The $30-40 tickets and then the $150-160 tickets. I have a fear that there won't be a middle ground for this. Not sure if anybody has seen/heard anything different online? If so that would blow something fierce.

No Saskatoon date :(. Not sure if this would be worth the trip to Edmonton.

Given the fact that there are a whopping FIVE days off between Edmonton and Winnipeg I think it may be possible that we end up getting a show. Though even if we do get one here I'm not sure I'd be able to make it, as I'll be in Vancouver for Rammstein around that same time. If they end up coming here and the timing's right I'll definitely go, if not then no big deal.

I saw them when they played here back in '04, and that was a spectacular show, I kind of doubt they'll be able to top that this time around anyway so I won't be too disappointed if I don't catch them now (though it would be cool to see them with Roth back in the band).

and once again saying this, I think Van Halen WILL in fact headline this year's Rock On The Range

look at this:
May 19th-band plays XCel Center in MN
May 20th-Last day of Rock On The Range(VH has no show booked)
*this would be a 12 hr drive from MN to OH
May 21st-(VH has no show booked)
May 22nd-band plays MO

it's not particularly hard for a major band to do a 12 hr drive to a new venue(plus the setup would probably be stripped down from the rest of the tour) paired with the face that Van Halen has ZERO dates in the state of Ohio on this entire tour(which runs from Late Feb to Late June)

makes you think

There's 45 dates spanning over 4 months and 1 week, the very first though that came to my mind was...

Overkill would do a 45 date tour in like 2 months or less despite being more brutal and not being able to jump on private jets. The guys in VH are only on average 5 years older then the guys in Overkill, so age isn't that much of a factor, especially since Wolfgang is like what 20?

And if you strip the first couple of Rolling Stones and Beatles albums to full original songs, you barely have anything. Tattoo is a damn serious flaw.

What version of Tattoo did everybody else hear? To me it just sounds like a mediocre VH song. The only horrendous song on that album is Stay Frosty.

Quite possibly the dumbest statement I've read so far this year.

Right, because concrete evidence and fact can be applied to subjective statements.

I turn it around, your response might be the dumbest statement I've read this year, objectively and studiously.

Here, let me break this down for you since you don't seem to understand how this works. And Bloodofthekings, maybe you should take a look at it too.

You posted that you find nothing wrong with the new album. I fully realize this is a subjective matter, and I am just expressing that I think the album is terrible. Yeah, I didn't sugarcoat it for you, in fact, I was poking fun at your opinion. I'm just giving you shit, don't take it so seriously. You could have done the same back to me, but instead you got defensive about your tastes. And I've found that more often that not, people who use the "it's subjective" defense are those who are self-conscious about what they're listening to.

Maideneer
02-08-2012, 01:07 PM
You could have simply said you don't like the record rather than be a straight up dick about it. It would be easier to interpret.

I could start saying you have the stupidest and most idiotic avatar of the year, but that would be starting a fight wouldn't it? Same crap.

Well, this is kind of similar to JRA calling you an asshole in the Metallica thread. I mean, these are pretty typical interactions with people. My friends have told me when they think I'm listening to something shitty (like Paramore :D), but I just brush it off. I just wasn't excepting you to react that way.

Also, my love for my avatar is unconditional. Despite how much I despise Illud Divinum Insanus.

The new VH is a decent album. It's just like how most of the albums they did with DLR where they'll have a handful of good songs and the rest is just whatever. The only truely great album from begining to end that they did with Roth is the first one.

I wasn't expecting anything that great so it wasn't hard for the album to exceed my low expectations.

I'd add 1984 to your short list, which is damn near perfect from front to back. I would think the only beef one would have is the overplaying of some songs like Jump, Panama, and Hot For Teacher. But... that's when I just put on Drop Dead Legs, Girl Gone Bad, and House Of Pain and just enjoy!!

But your expectations line is in check. After the 2 songs on the GH disc, how would anyone's expectations be greater than those songs? I think it's great, relative to today... not relative to something they did 30 years ago. I'm glad it's out and I look forward to seeing them again!!

Yep.

After reading the interview Eddie did with Esquire recently, I feel so bad that Wolfgang got so much flak for replacing Michael Anthony. Eddie pretty much admits that Wolfgang is the only reason that there's a new album and tour right now, and that he's been the one picking their awesome setlists on this tour. Yeah Mike had amazing background vocals and he really was treated like crap by Eddie, but Wolfgang is pretty much the driving force behind present and future Van Halen activity. It's too bad they couldn't just have him on rhythm guitar and have Mike on bass, but whatever.

Ozzy did sound great at the Birmingham show. I find it baffling how inaccurate everyone's expectations of how Ozzy should be sounding are. When the starting point is so wrong, the opinion of the ending point is invalid.

Plus there's an inch-thick layer of sarcasm there that you seem to have missed.

Sarcasm was noted, but that doesn't void your comment that he sounds awful. I don't have high expectations for Ozzy, and after watching some videos of the show he did sound good, even to the end of the set. However, I don't have high expectations for Dave either. He has lost a lot of the power in his voice - same goes for Ozzy - but he still does justice to the songs. My point is that neither are great nor awful, so I don't get your polar opposite opinions of the two.
