SAYWHAAAA

I suppose Armored Saint do have a bit of history with Metallica, John Bush was at one point offered the lead singer spot with the band, Joey Vera was one of the bassists originally considered to replace Cliff and Phil Sandoval fought Lars once.

I assume it's a track that got left off Death Magnetic. They played one Monday night as well.

Gross middle there, but To Live Is To Die! Holy shit, I used to be fucking obsessed with that song!

I was also gonna say "DISPOSABLE HEROES FUCK YEAH" but then I pictured the Table singing "twenty oooooone, only soooooon", and kind of threw up in my mouth. :hecho:

That set is fucked. There are some amazing songs played, but it's definitely not as good as the first night. WTF is Kid Rock doing there?? That's cool Jason is playing more songs again. That's FUCKING AWESOME Mercyful Fate was there. Lou Reed ruins it but Mercyful Fate makes up for it.

ravenheart
12-08-2011, 02:00 AM
How gutted would you be if this was the only one of the four shows you got to go to and it was the only one where Lou Reed turned up.

I hope those songs were either met with silence or unrest.

Let's see, first night had Diamond Head reunited, and second night brought Mercyful Fate back from the dead. I don't care how many times Lou Reed or kid rock have to appear, the more resurrected classic metal bands the better.

Uh, no. They toured America this summer (briefly, mankvill saw them) and also played a few festivals in Europe too. That wasn't a reunion on Monday.

Yes it was. They toured with their current singer Nick Tart. Monday was with original singer Sean Harris, who hasn't been in the band properly for over 15 years, apart from the aborted '02-'04 reunion.

 Don't know why, but that comment almost made me spit coffee all over my monitor.

I'm really impressed that Metallica are doing this kind of thing. Sure, bringing Lou Reed out and playing those horrible songs sucks, but you had to expect it, at least for one night, and probably at least one more. Good excuse for a long bathroom/beer/smoke/whatever break. Also, nothing wrong with Kid Rock joining for Turn the Page, the guy actually has a great voice for that type of music.

Sanitarium78
12-08-2011, 04:43 AM
Actually, Kid singing things like Bob Seger covers is pretty damn awesome.

I agree because this prevents him from singing his own songs.

It would've been much cooler to have got Seger to sing the song with them. Playing the Lou Reed stuff is just an awful descison, but then they go and do awesome stuff like Bush singing on Horsemen and the Mercyful Fate appearence, so at least they know how to make things up to those who were there. Of course if you're not a fan of any of their special guests you're probably didn't enjoy the show as much as you would like to.

Amazing, except for Ms. Faithful, meh, never liked her contribution in that song. But good Lord, the rest is great.

Hopefully the next show can feature any of the following:
The House That Jack Built
Prince Charming
Attitude
Fixxxer
Cure
Ronnie
The Outlaw Torn

It's a shame Hetfield despises that one. It's a damn good song, and its spot on Ride the Lightning couldn't have been filled better, breaking up the madness between two all-out thrashers.

It's great they finally decided to play To Live Is To Die. I hope Mustaine will come out on one of the nights and play a couple of Kill 'Em All songs, that will actually be even more epic then the first Big 4 jam.

That would be great. Mustaine is credited as a writer for RTL, I would love to see him play it with Metallica. That opening riff was obviously written by Dave.

They better pull out "Frayed Ends" at one of the shows. Fans have been begging for it since fucking '88! I'd say it's their most requested/wanted song from the die hard fans.

Agree'd 100%, the amount of times they tease that song live is beyond belief, if Metallica decide not to play it on the third or fourth night, then they're arseholes. But I' m pretty sure they will.

there's about 7 songs I'd like to have seen on this list. I consider myself a pretty decent Metallica fan but this setlist just didn't do much for me. Seeing the Mercyful Fate song would've been killer though.

Mr_Kirk_Hamster
12-08-2011, 10:27 AM
Hm, the only reason I disagree with RavenHeart about Escape is because they'll be playing the whole Black Album, including Don't Tread On Me, which I was also under the impression they didn't like.

Personally, I enjoy both of them and wouldn't be opposed to either. Gotta jump on the "Frayed Ends" bandwagon though.:light: Justice is my favorite album and anything off it getting played pleases me lots.

That's cool they aren't repeating any songs besides Seek and Destroy. They need to stop closing with that song for the next two shows, but you know that will never happen. The fact they played Four Horsemen kind of shows that they won't do the Mechanix with Dave. Hopefully Dave will come out for Phantom Lord
