All I've listened to from 2012 is Alcest, Abigail Williams, and Apocalipsis. What should I check out?

I know Orange Goblin and Pallbearer are ones I should check out.

Here, have a go. (http://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=2012&genre_include=1&include_child_genres=1&genres=metal&include_child_genres_chk=1&include=both&origin_countries=&limit=none&countries=)

For those who haven't noticed, some posts have recently gone missing in this thread. I would advise everyone to keep the topic of "acquisition" off-limits in public areas, for the sake of the community.

The new Asphyx is the best death metal release to come out this year easily. "Torture" or anything else that's going to come out later this year is going to have a really hard time beating it.

I agree with your assessment, but the new Decibel I got yesterday gave Torture a 9 and last month they gave Deathhammer an 8; different reviewers though I think. Not that Decibel is the be all and end all of reviews, but they are usually pretty good. I'm really looking forward to hearing all of Torture.

Finally listened to the new Psycroptic all the way through a few times. It isn't bad. Some great riffage, and an almost perfect amount on tech without getting ghey or wank. The vocals don't really pull me in though. I like Carriers of The Plague, The Throne of Kings, and Deprivation. Other than that, it's average.

I agree, the current vocalist pretty much sucks. He ruined the last album for me and led me to low expectations for this one, but to be honest the musicianship on the new record really impressed me to the point where I could look past the mediocre vocals. I enjoyed the album much more than I expected to.

I agree for the most part. I REALLY like the music. If it were based solely on musicianship, I'd give it a 8-9/10, but those vocals, man. Some songs he's ok, than on other's he sounds like he's trying to sound like Peter from The Haunted. WTF is up w/ that?

It's a real shame Psycroptic had to ruin their music by getting such a shitty vocalist. Whenever I think about giving the new album another listen I stop myself because I know the vocals will just piss me off and distract me the whole time. Oh well, at least the new Asphyx fucking rules.

I really can't see why people have a problem with psycroptic's vocalist, he sounds fine to me, and sometimes I really like him. It's a different sound for tech death.

On a side note, I had my volume down and didn't realize blind guardian's bright eyes was playing on youtube then I selected a psycroptic track to play and turned the volume up.. it sounded incredible and synched up perfectly with blind guardian vocals :-p

Officially listened to 10 albums this year and my top 5 so far go to:

1. Eluveitie - Helvetios
2. Goatwhore - Blood for the Master
3. Orange Goblin - A Eulogy for the Damned
4. Xandria - Neverworld's End
5a. Corrosion of Conformity - Corrosion of Conformity

The ones that didn't make my list were the new efforts from Lamb of God, Lacuna Coil, Bleeding Through and Primal Fear.

I've been hearing so much hype for this song. Now i'm scared that I'll be disappointed when I actually hear it.

The Strangulation Chair has the most awesome basswork on the album, but in all other aspects I would say the majority of the rest of the album eclipses it. The album as a whole is incredibly above par for CC, though.

I got 1 song through barren earth so far... I feel like the production was better on the first album. this one sounds more like it was done in a garage... not that it sounds that way just more raw than the first one. However I feel this means it loses some of the bass, the sound is just more hollow to me. the song writing of the first song sounded cool to me though.

Agreed. It was done by Sebastian Jerke, who did artwork for Long Distance Calling. The artwork is fine, it's just not what I have in mind when I think of Ahab.

Was in a slammin' mood last week, so I checked out Abominable Putridity's new album 'The Anomelies of Artificial Origin' and Provocation's 'Forging The Gods'.

Abominable Putridity features ex-Pathology vocalist Matti Way. Very solid slam album. It's the kind of slam that I like : slamming breakdowns as part of brutal death metal. Not the talentless beatdown slam that's nothing but pig squeals and breakdowns. Can't believe how many bands are like that. Tracks 1, 3, and 5 are really solid. Gave it a 6/10

The Provocation is the aforementioned beatdown slam. I admit, there are some quality breakdowns, but there's not anything close to an actual vocal in the entire album, just literal gurgles and pig squeals.

Also, finally listened to the new Napalm Death a few times through. It isn't bad. I don't love it, but then again Napalm is a band I've always loved live, and just "sort of" liked them on CD. Everyday Pox is a great fuckin song though.

I hope some details about the new Katatonia come out soon. I'm really looking forward to it.

They started the recording process around six weeks back so it'll probably be a late summer release.

But there is always something worse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOVK_iQvvsw).

It's amazing what some people listen to. Those broads deserved to have a cock jammed down each one of their throats, specifically for the purpose of humiliation and more important, to shut them up.

I would have done that regardless of their shitty singing/rapping.

Listening to the new Mars Volta... It's following a weird pattern for me. I didn't like the first track, but really liked the second track. Same thing with the third and fourth. And now the fifth and sixth! I mean overall it's pretty good so far, but a lot different from all their other stuff.

EDIT: Nevermind, track 7 is probably my favorite so far!

Glad to see I'm not the only one digging the album! I'll do a short review sometime, but I love this album so far. MUCH better than Evisceration Plague, and I'm willing to say it rivals Gore Obsessed for my favorite CC album since Vile.

First album since The Wretched Spawn to really have some differantiation (is that a word?) in most of the riffs.

On my 3rd listen of the album now and my favorite is definitely "Scourge of Iron". The whole record is pretty tight but there's very little to choose between tracks three through eight.

Dude, you're doing a disservice to yourself as a punk fan for not checking out their other stuff. Amazing band. Rohnert Park is pretty flawless. For me, I fucking love Zoo, though I don't consider it the same band as old Ceremony. It's about as far away as hardcore as you can be, and they pretty much have the mentality "we're fucking sick of heavy punk, deal with it fanbase", which resulted in the backlash.

Scourge of Iron has to be my favorite too. Do you mean that you don't like tracks 4-8?

Rabid is also a sick tune! I like Torn Through, too. Kill and EP both had sorta half ass ends IMO, but the last 2 here are great!

I wasn't thinking about starting a thread, but I guess I could. I just have to make sure I don't say the same things in there as I do in my review, because that will be posted elsewhere and I don't want to get into any plagiarism issues.

I'll start the thread now.
