What do you think is the worst metal album of this year. I've narrowed it down to the few I've noticed got the most negative reception. Maybe a few of these aren't really metal albums but you know what I mean.

The worst albums are rarely the highest profile. Lulu was awful but at least it was challenging and fostered debate.

Arafel's "For Battles Once Fought" was the worst album I heard all year. Children of Bodom worship with paper-thin orchestral elements. Fucking dreadful.

The only thing "challenging" about Lulu was how challenging it is to listen to more than one song without setting fire to it.

Countless interesting, entertaining pieces were written about Lulu. Can't say the same for most of what I heard this year.

There have been good movies about the Holocaust too ;)

Okay, maybe I took that too far

Listen, Lulu is an indefensible album from an artistic standpoint and all but unlistenable (although I can stand behind Junior Dad, legitimately like that song a lot), but I'll take something that makes Chuck Klosterman write the best music piece he's done in a year over the thousandth "really heavy, but also really melodic" ninth-rate Pantera/Slayer composite. Don't feel ashamed to say so.

None of these were the worst album of this year, because genuinely, did anyone here really expect them to be any better than what they turned out to be? My opinion aside, I can safely say most of these records weren't exactly expected to achieve much by this board.

My vote goes to In Waves, very disappointing turn from a band that up to this point I've really enjoyed.

I didn't expect Morbid Angel to shit all over themselves. "Nevermore" was decent... then the album came out.

I would vote for Lulu if I could call it a metal album. I wouldn't call Korn or Limp Bizkit metal either. If I had to choose the worst metal album I heard all year, and I'm not going to get many supporters here, it's Machine Head. But hey, Machine Head has never really been my thing, and at least I gave it a couple good listens.

You got my support, man. Their new album was such a disappointment after The Blackening.

Yeah, yeah, enough with the "judging art for its role in society" bit. ;)

I'm quite surprised no one mentioned FFDP. Out of all the albums I've listened to this year it has been one of the worse and that was putting all previous dislike aside.

Honestly I can't pin one album done though.

For me it was Queensryche.

To say Machine Head is worse than some of these is laughable. There are truly some great songs on that album. There is nothing worth listening to on some of these others...

Either Macabre or Machine Head.

I don't think Grim Scary Tales was that bad, it had it's moments.

This thread is pointless IMO. Not trying to be a dick, but LuLu definately isn't metal, and neither is Korn's new EP.

W/ that being said, MA is definately the worst, followed by The Haunted's unseen.

I didn't like the new Winds of Plague when it came out, but after listening to it a ton now, I enjoy the hell out of it. Speaker of the Dead is also great; definitely Emmure's best. ;) Any metal fan is gonna hate them, sure, but that doesn't make them bad per se in my opinion.

Now, if we wanna talk about bad, let's talk about Lulu. Where to begin, gentlemen?

I saw Black Tide open for Maiden twice this year. Fucking awful.

I voted Lulu because besides MA and some of the Limp Bizkit record it's the only thing I've heard. MA definitely sucks but it's more interesting than Lulu. I don't even hate Limp Bizkit, my brother and I have watched the Golden Cobra video a lot over the summer because it's so damn hilarious. Fred Durst is my hero.

Voted for Morbid Angel. Most of the other bands on that list have every right to release a shitty album, but not Morbid. Not after eight long years.

This is always too difficult because in any given year I can almost guarantee I haven't heard the worst album that year.

Of the stuff I did hear, Lazarus A.D. probably disappointed me the most.

Yeah I read that already. If we're talking metal albums I'll talk METAL albums. If you had just put "worst albums", yeah sure, LULU, boom roasted. But anyway, no Lulu isn't a metal album if you take away the vocals. There are parts that could be considered metal, but heavy guitars don't a metal album make.

Aside from the occasional one-liner from Hetfield, there's absolutely nothing about Lulu to suggest that Metallica recorded it. Like, I can't even really criticize them for this... they're not even trying to sound metal.
