I neglected to post a fair amount of bands I saw for reasons other than seeing the actual band. Be it to retain my spot for a band I really like that's coming on next, or I meet a pretty girl at a festival and don't want to part with her so I bear through some shitty music. The latter happened a fair amount this summer, but it was always worth it.

ravenheart
12-02-2011, 02:08 AM
Yeah, I didn't bother including bands I happened to see. Usually through either wanting a good spot for the bands I cared about or mis-timing my arrival.

TheGrandWazoo40
12-02-2011, 02:13 AM
Sitting through Ben Harper and the Relentless 7 was a terrible experience, but I got a front row spot for Thievery Corporation so it was worth it.

This has been the fewest concerts I've seen in one year since before 2006. Honestly it was partially just lack of tours I really thought were worth my time and money. There were only 1 or 2 shows I missed against my will. Also, I'm only bothering to list the bands I care about.

Gamma Ray
Thin Lizzy
Whitesnake
Queensryche
Foreigner
Journey
Evergrey (twice)
Sabaton
Saxon
Borealis
Seven Witches (tonight)
Armored Saint (tonight)

I had a chance to see Bonobo do a DJ set but he cancelled last minute. : /

One of these days...

What did you think of the Shpongletron? The guy who did the VJing (Zebbler) is playing in Minnesota on new years with his main project, he's also doing the visuals for everyone else including EOTO who is the headliner. Cannot wait for NYEOTO.

Blitzkrieg Witchcraft

Pretty light year for me. Off the top of my head:

Deep Purple in NYC
Opeth
Dio Disciples

There were a few I planned on seeing but backed out at the last minute because of price and/or distance.

Crystal CastlesYou are a real dick, do you know that? The length of your list is the main thing that sends me into Hulk-like rage, but the highlights above are especially maddening. I've actually seen STS9 and CC before, so those don't bother me as much, but still. Also, I take it Grayceon was at SXSW? They barely toured this year outside of that and some local shows. I've seen them before as well, but still. You're a dick. :finger:

EDIT: By the way, I'm coming to Austin again the week of January 23. Anything good announced yet?

Bonobo was an opener for Bassnectar in Austin Halloween weekend and he warmed up the crowd really well.

Shpongletron I really enjoyed. I had see Simon do two other Shpongle DJ sets at Rothbury and Wakarusa 09 without the Shpongletron and I thought it was a more engaging set with it.

When I saw EOTO earlier this year it was with Zebbler doing the visuals and that was pretty cool as well. EOTO for New Years will be awesome. Have fun!

Yes, Grayceon was at SXSW and it was pretty awesome because 1. it was free and 2. I was about three feet in front of Jackie. :D

Back to back nights of STS9 at Stubbs for a second year in a row was incredible. Sound Tribe shows are always a hell of a party.

Graveyard is playing on Jan 25. If you haven't checked out Hisingen Blues that came out this year, it's a great classic hard rock album.

You guys are rich assholes.

I went to 5 shows this year, the most I've ever done in my life. And I only had to pay for 1 of them :-P

April 10th - Rush

May 1st - Motley Crue and Bruno Mars at the Bamboozle Festival

June 12th- Deep Purple

August 3rd - Queensryche

October 31st - Blaze Bayley

Got to meet and guys from Queensryche and met Blaze are their shows.

You guys are rich assholes.

Not me, I'm just lucky.

Being a radio host gets me into shows very cheap or free. But I still gotta drive 3 hours round trip to go to 99% of all shows, costing well more then the ticket itself.

But music is my main joy in life, and until my metal band starts gigging, going to shows is my main focus that not in top priorities. For that I've gotten to meet almost all of my favorite musicians in the last 5 months alone!

You got to hang out with Blaze Bailey and Queensryche, that's pretty badass. :rocker:

I wish. I work no less than 50 hours a week to support my concert habit. It helps that I live in a city that makes it really easy to go to shows.

I'm unemployed dude...

Still didn't stop me from seeing all the shows I listed. This summer I traveled to Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania while being unemployed and I don't even have a car or a drivers license. Money is irrelevant if yer tryin to ter, TER!

You guys are rich assholes.

Far from it, I'm a fucking paperboy. I paid for 9 of the 12 concerts I went to the this year, I was fortunate enough to get into 2 concerts for free through connections(Dropkick Murphys a friend of mine got 2 tickets for free and gave me one and Uproar my cousin works for Comcast and was given tickets, which he then gave to me) and my mom bought my Summer Slaughter ticket for my birthday. I spend most of my money on concert tickets and energy drinks and I am fortunate that I even have a small job delivering papers so I can go to shows (I would be completely fucked and NEVER go to shows otherwise).
