Since both albums are out, I gotta ask. Who put out the better 2011 release?

*Sorry for the shitty looking poll title, I can't edit it. :(*

Unless it's leaked already, most people won't hear Vektor's new one until December 6th. When I went to order at my local record shop, they told me that it was set to be released on December 6th. I then went to Facebook to ask Vektor about that, and they confirmed it to be true, but they don't know why.

I'm just through Cosmic Cortex, but it sounds awesome, as expected. Very future-esque sound.

 do I even post about Revocation on here?

They both are great bands and both albums will make my top ten for 2011 but I've had both albums for a while now and I have to give it to Vektor.

I wish they both did a co-headlining show sometime, that would be tits!

EDIT: Oh wait, I get it now

Revocation like a fucking boss.

Of all the great local bands we have here in AZ, people get all  over Vektor.

What a fucking joke :hmm:

I haven't heard Outer Isolation yet.

I'm a little bit uncomfortable making the comparison, since one is a tech-death outfit and the other is a progressive thrash band. Kinda apples-and-oranges to me. Both are certainly awesome. Maybe I'll vote later.

Although I haven't heard the new one, Revocation to me definitely is NOT progressive thrash. In fact, they're kind of an amalgamation of several old-school genres done in an old-school kickass kind of way.

I voted "Who?" Not because I don't know who these bands are, but because come on, neither are that fucking good.

Oh wait...too late. ;)

EDIT: Does anybody else see the extreme irony of me calling Brad an oldfag?

Revocation definitely isn't tech death. They are much closer to thrash then death.

Revocation definitely isn't tech death. They are much closer to thrash then death. From Encyclopedia Metallum:

Country of origin: United States
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Status: Active
Year of creation: 2006 Genre: Technical Death/Thrash Metal
Lyrical themes: War, Chaos, Pestilence
Current label: Relapse Records

Besides, my primary point was that I think the albums and bands are somewhat different from each other - making them difficult to compare - and I stand by that observation.

rjturtle9

I don't consider Revocation thrash. They are more death then thrash, but both albums are pretty technical.

Gotta disagree with that. They're definitely very thrashy but their base is tech-death. If you can't hear that, I dunno what to say to you :hmm:

Side 100% with Brad on this one.
And I really liked Black Future when it came out. But seriously. Vektor? Best thrash band in 20 years? :tp:

I'm nearly positive I've heard you make that statement before, and everyone else on here is constantly on about how great they are, when they really are not that memorable.

The thing about Vektor is, they wouldn't be as good if everyone liked them. In my opinion, the very best bands must have a love/hate it appeal, with the fans praising it as the greatest thing ever recorded in the history of music (me) and the other people on the sidelines wondering what the fuck everyone is hearing, because to them it's nothing special.

If everyone thought Vektor was the greatest thing ever, it wouldn't be as special ;)

(on another note, I think I may be turning hipster. wait til I take a pic of the ironic trashed jean jacket I just got )

I tried to listen to a Vektor song and it sounded too artificial. The drums especially-sounds like a computer. Not my thing.

Now that I've given the time to listen to both of these in full and digest them a bit I'm going with Vektor hands down. I feel like Outer Isolation is Vektor firing on all cylinders while Revocation has an album even better than Chaos of Forms in them that we've yet to see.
