This heavy-metal hero is singing the blues.
A former lead singer of the band Anthrax filed suit yesterday over the fallout from his 2009 ouster from the popular “thrash” combo founded in New York City.
Dan Nelson says drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello and guitarist Scott Ian falsely stated in “numerous interviews” that he had “abruptly resigned” after getting sick, forcing a cancelation of a tour.
The $2.65 million suit also alleges that Benante last month told the rock-news site Blabbermouth.net that Nelson “was a bully.”
The Long Island native says his ex-bandmates’ “intentional defamation” has caused him a loss of income and damaged his reputation.
The Manhattan federal court filing further charges that Nelson co-wrote the tunes on the band’s latest album, “Worship Music,” but hasn’t gotten his fair share of the profits.
Anthrax’s accounting firm, Berdon LLP, which is named as a co-defendant, didn’t return requests for comment.

From the live videos I've seen Nelson fucking sucks, he should go tour with Al Atkins and Paul Di'Anno.

Damaged his reputation? I didn't know he had earned one yet.

He does have a point with the songs though. He did sing the early versions of Fight 'Em, Earth On Hell and I'm Alive with them and the songs on Worship Music are written more for his kind of voice. Scott and Charlie may have fucked up again, just as things were looking so good for them.

I must have missed the MTV cribs w/ Dan Nelson and his studio apartment. If anything when he does music now even being the fired ex-singer gets him more press than whatever the hell he did before.

This and plus I don't think it was cool of them to liel about his health. I've seen videos of him, he's ok,no Belladonna tho.

Here's a video of Dan Nelson doing Fight Em in 2008. The chorus has been changed slightly for Worship Music but if he can prove he co-wrote any of these songs Anthrax will have to pay him something.

Here's two other songs that sound familiar to:

I think Dan might have himself a case here.

Well, if he can prove he wrote those songs, he's definitely got a case.

Have to say though... goddamn did they sound shit with him on vocals. He's done a pretty decent job of damaging his own reputation with those performances.

I always wondered what Anthrax would sound like with a Phil Anselmo clone fronting them.

Dan isn't great but it's shitty how they got rid of him and it's shitty that they barely changed the songs.

Not to mention the fact that they had 3 singers in 2 years

apparently. played songs in their early stages = wrote songs.

No. As far as we know this is as valid as Bruce Dickinson suing Steve Harris for Rime would be.

Also from what I can tell, Dan Nelson is a complete twat with a bad voice, so as far as I'm concerned Anthrax are already even in the right, even if they're not.
