It's at a bar/restaurant. Every show there is free but limited to a first come first serve basis. If you make reservations, you get automatic access to the show, but you have to pay for an entree. I figured the $10 for food would be worth the show.

I just picked up my dog from the vet. A rattlesnake bit her yesterday while I was at school. My mom rushed her to the emergency animal clinic to get her an antivenom shot. I was really worried I was going to lose her, so last night really sucked. I'm glad she's healing up really fast, especially for being an old dog.

Sorry to hear about that. I have a female pure breed shitzu and I'd be pretty bummed out and devastated if anything happen to her. :hmm: :hecho:

She's only 11 months old. Her first birthday is on the 21st of this months. :D

My dog is doing a lot better now. She's back to her normal self. I've been giving her pain meds but she doesn't really seem to need them. I'm just really glad she's still alive. I would be devastated if I lost her. I love her more than anything and she's been in my life for about 12 years now.

I'll have to check my work schedule but if I can some how make it, I'll for sure make the drive down to fullterton to wild out to some awesome bands, and I can chill with you guys. :D

Thats crazy how there's so many of these free shows at the Slide bar, hard to believe. I've only been there twice, once for my friends band, and the other time to see Dave Lombardo, but i've never been there for a straight up metal show with well known bands. I can't imagine how crazy it gets in that little floor. :hecho:

It can get pretty intense in there. I've seen Nails, Exhumed, Asesino and Murder Construct in there over the last year. I know the show will reach capacity really early. I made reservations so that I could get guaranteed entrance to the show. You would have to be there by 6 if you don't make a dinner reservation

Been thinking about it, and I have come to the conclusion that even though I hate Juggalos, I must attend at least one gathering in my lifetime. After all the 250+ shows I have attended, I realized that I really must see for myself the atrocities that take place! Plus the wrestling ain't that bad either.

Me and my friends have been talking about attending a gathering of the Juggalos for the last 3 years. When my friends first showed me the history about the Gathering of the Juggaloes it blew me away, just everything about it. Not so much in a good way, but not in a bad way either, more like a "this is some really really fucked up shit" way. From the crazy fans throwing their own poop and shit at the performers, to the thousands among thousands of fans scattered around the fields that are holding picket signs of what drugs they wanna pick up and what they have for sale(including the women with spray cans on their body on what drugs they wanna get and what they have for sale and the great lengths they will go to get that certain narcotic), to the crazy mother fuckers puking, beating each other up, and shitting on each other, to the wrestling matches, Girl vs Girl Mud fights, Stand up Comedy, Karaoke, oh and did i mention they have a Hip Hop stage which consist of Old School Hip Hop artist(Method Man, Ol Dirty Bastard, Bone Thugs n Harmony and SLICK rick are just a couple of examples of people who have all played at least once at the Gathering of the juggles).

Method man from Wu Tang Clan sued The Gathering of the Juggaloes a couple of years ago because a crazy ass fan threw a piece of glass at method man and it gashed the top of his eye, causing him to get stitches! And i'm sure you heard about Tila Tequila getting beat up and border line Raped at that show.

Who knows rjturtle, maybe if we get our shit together we can gather up as much $$$$$$$ as possible and go together to experience the craziness for ourself(you can bring the other turtle guy on this board too ahahhaa).

We are also risking psychological damage to our minds, body and health by attending this show. We will lose a part of our humanity by attending this shit fest. I've always called GOFJ the Redneck version of OZZFEST in the south. :hecho:

Probably the biggest reason not to attend, but I'm down. I actually have a couple jaggalo friends (I know, but they aren't idiots. They like the music but love wrestling, so we get along) that have gone to some of them. I've heard stories.

Why Twisted Sister are assholes:

Rockpages.gr: OK, a cliché question, but I have to ask, maybe you’ve changed your minds: Is there a chance for a new album of new material?

Mark Mendoza: No…

Jay Jay French: You know why? For a few reasons… because people just don’t buy new cd’s anymore…

Rockpages.gr: That’s true…

Jay Jay French: So, why do you ask that question?

Mark Mendoza: You know, we say never, but we don’t know anything more than we are telling you right now. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. Maybe a song or two… maybe nothing! I don’t know… We have no plans of whatsoever. Because people wanna know what they remember from the’80s, they want all the hits, they want all the songs that they remember: “Under The Blade”, “You Can’t Stop Rock’n’Roll”, “Shoot’em Down”… that’s what they wanna hear. They don’t want something new! That goes for a lot of bands that don’t do any new songs…

Jay Jay French: Yeah, you assume… that’s part of the problem with that question… you assume by asking that question that we have a deep artistic desire to make something new… that’s an assumption! That’s not necessarily a true assumption! I can say this: what define a great band is great music, and a great live performance, right? There comes a time in every band’s history for certain things to happen. We have a body of really great music. It’s about 100 songs on various different albums. Maybe, more than a 100, if you add the Christmas album, if you add the new recordings for “Stay Hungry”, let’s say we have 100 songs, not 10 songs, not 20 songs… we have 100, 110 songs that have been released. We have 4 DVD’s, and actually at the end of the summer we will have 7 DVD’s… it’s a lot of material! We only play 15 shows a year, and when we play those shows the fans that come out to see us they wanna hear 17 of those songs, because they are their favourite songs. So, when you say “this is from our new record” two things happen: no.1 most people don’t know it, no.2: you take a good song out, that someone wants to hear and you don’t play it. So, it really doesn’t make sense… if we actually toured, maybe making a record would matter, maybe… but, we don’t tour. So, when Twisted Sister comes you are telling your friend “Hey man, you’ve gotta see this amazing show, where they play this song, this song, this song…” if we don’t play one of those songs you’re going to be very very upset. You’re gonna go “why the hell did I come here for?” So, for us this is…

Mark Mendoza: … not likely!

Jay Jay French: When I go to hear a band that I love, I never wanna hear a new song! The minute they go “this is from our new record…” I throw up! We did “30”and nobody bothered! We released t on iTunes, figured OK you love us, can’t wait to buy it, here it is…

Rockpages.gr: What about new bands, that they start now, do you think that they have a chance to be classic and stand the test of time, for let’s say the next 20 years?

Jay Jay French: You want the answer to this question? When a 20-year old kid comes to me and say “Jay Jay what’s the secret?” I say, No.1- I didn’t have that luxury when I was 20 years old. Nobody gave me the answer, so why should I give you the answer? And No.2 – and this is a practical reality- when Twisted Sister started in the United States gasoline was 30 cents a gallon, a hotel room was 19$ a night, a truck rental was 25$ a month, and you made 100$ a night! Now, gas in the US is 4$ a gallon, you truck rental is 400$ a week, your hotel room is 200 a night, and not only you don’t get that 100, but you have to pay 100, and there is no record deal, so the bottom line is “DON’T GET INTO THE MUSIC BUISNESS”! Go become a lawyer, a doctor… you’re not going to make money! The rockstar dream is over! It’s gone!

I liked how he bangs on about people assuming they should want to make new music out of artistic desire (seriously, if you've lot the artistic desire, what are you doing? Just playing shows to make a quick buck and not have to work?) then goes on to assume Twisted Sister fans don't want new music.

The REAL reasons they're not making new music is they have no confidence in themselves that they can make anything decent, and they're too lazy. They just want to make money from hits tours and do as little as possible.

I never understood this. Metal is a much bigger thing than punk/hardcore but I feel like you see much more hardcore kids out in the wild than metalheads. The average metal show will be at a 1000-2000 capacity venue while hardcore shows are at small bars and little rooms in the basements of obscure churches, but for some reason hardcore kids seem to be more common. Can somebody explain this?

Two things:
1. My gf makes fun of me for liking metal, but its actually funny what she says, but she's still going to see Slayer with me this summer :D
2. My friend was about to marry some girl who swore she loved metal and went to every show with him only to find out she was a complete fake and was using him for his money, so yeah.

The only person I know is my best friend's little sister and she only started out liking deathcore, but now thanks to me copying my phone's music onto her phone has fallen in love with black metal and folk metal and has came with me to see Anthrax and Iced Earth. Well, and also my girlfriend who doesn't listen to music often, but enjoys metal and came to see Anthrax, Macabre and Sanctuary with me. :D Other than that though there's pretty much only chicks who think that they're metalheads because blessthefall and Underoath are their favorite bands, around here at least. :hecho:

Trying to get an internship is a huge fucking pain in my ass. I get the people replying to me saying they like my resume, they wanna get to know me, blah blah and try to get an interview in person or phone interview set up. I tell them when I'm available for a phone interview or when I can meet up in person and we agree to do it at that time/place. The day comes, I'm all ready to be interviewed and see what happens from there, and one of these things happen:

If it's a phone interview, the time passes and I get no call. I call back (multiple times, leaving voicemails as well) to see what happened there, and no one picks up. I email as well, no reply. I'm doing this on a daily basis at this point and it's just fucking tedious.

OR, if it's a face to face interview, I get a call the day before or even the day of saying the person can't make it for whatever reason. We try to reschedule, and one of two more things happens: The same bullshit happens before, or the same crap with the phone interview happens and no one shows up.

God fucking dammit I'm getting pissed off at this. At this point, I can't even tell if I have horrible luck with this kind of stuff or this is just highly unprofessional on their part, especially when you can't get into contact with them.

Fuck this shit, I'm seeing Autopsy tonight. Not gonna give anymore fucks today.

Sounds quite unprofessional on their part. That's extremely rude and non-compliant with the "norms" of communication. The kind of internship you're going for matters as well, for example this kind of stuff would never go down in accounting/finance. It just wouldn't. But more lax things like computer science or programming....I can't really say.

These are marketing internships. I'll be getting my bachelors next spring and I'd really like to have an internship before I graduate to make my resume look good and have great experience in the marketing field, but the way things are going now I don't know if that will happen. I'm gonna keep applying and sending my resume to various places so hopefully I find SOMEBODY who's easy to keep in contact with and just doesn't blow me off after setting something up.

The fact that it's marketing certainly makes more sense...regardless, it's still unprofessional. I have a very good friend in Marketing and he doesn't get treated like that at all, and he's applied to very low-profile, semi start-up marketing joints and whatnot. I'm sorry with your luck, that's really unfortunate. I'm sure there are firms out there that will be much better. I don't know where you live specifically or what opportunities are there, but I know there are lots of opportunities to do virtual internships working with smaller companies. I'm fuzzy on the details, but I have friends doing it and it seems to be a strong learning experience.

This.

:hecho:

Yep. It seems in the suburbs are all the kids love metalcore but as you get into the city all the girls only like hardcore haha.

I meant to say practice, not show - but I figured most people got that based on the context.

And we have 3 other songs on the "shelf" in case time permits and the crowd really wants them: Flight of Icarus, Wasted Years, and The Wicker Man. We all have our reasons as to why they're not in the planned the setlist, it's a long story.

But yeah, I think the set is a fantastic mixture of essential stuff and some rarer songs, it's paced quite nicely also.

I'm sure I'll be bringing this whole thread to a screeching halt here but I just had one of the worst nights of my life. I'll try to keep it as short as possible.

Best friend killed himself two years ago after being caught making meth. I confronted him a couple days before he was caught that ended very very badly verbally. Someone turned him in. When the cops showed up they found him hanging from a rope.

I've been trying to get a hold of his girlfriend and daughter (who is my goddaughter) ever since. Tonight I finally got a hold of her, she is now living in California and told me everything was my fault and if it wasn't for me being a shitty friend he would still be alive today, and to never talk to her again.

I honestly couldn't feel worse right now...

Well, honestly... I donno what to say dude, thats some pretty deep stuff. The best thing i can tell you is it doesn't really sound like your fault at all, not in the least. People make their own decisions and their own paths, they make there choices. Your friend was probably gonna serve a shit tun of time in prison, hell, maybe life in prison. Making hard drugs is a pretty hefty fine that can easily get you 25 to life in prison. Anyways, sorry to hear you're feeling down in the dumps my compadre. That's some deep stuff. :hmm:

Thanks man. The fight we had was about him taking meth and making and selling it. I threatened to turn him in and wanted to kick his ass for doing this to himself, his girlfriend, and his daughter (Luckily his girlfriend never did it which is why I wanted to keep in talks with her). I wanted to keep in contact because their daughter is my goddaughter.

We had a band almost a decade ago and it ended badly but we stayed best friends until all this happened. He always wanted to get the band back together, but I know something bad would have happened if it did.

One of my current best friends is going through a very similar situation as well, and it's hurting me just as much.

It's funny how it all happens at once.

But Sacred Reich are playing Graspop too...

Yup, but a headlining show means a longer setlist, and no chance of missing anything for wanting to catch other bands or going to a signing, though the only signings I really care about on that day is if Slayer/Slash.

Nope, nothing. Was hoping to gain a KISS show out of it, but doesn't look likely now. If the rumours are true, they'll be playing the same night as Gov't Mule.

The other annoying one is Death Angel playing London while I'm in the US, but that's not so bad as I have seen them fairly recently and they're playing an album I don't really care for.

Bussing tables at a restaurant. The guy said he's cool with me taking days off so I won't be missing any shows, but I'm starting on the day of the Nasum show because I need all the money I can get.

Anyway, I actually have an interview tomorrow morning for an internship position with Enterprise Rent-A-Car! Hopefully this goes well. I'm not worried about the interview itself, but whether or not they'll actually keep in contact with me after it's over.

AMAZING FUCKING NIGHT!

Interview with Dax Riggs will be up on youtube in a little bit. He was a bit reserved in the interview which will come out in the interview, but he was a cool guy none the less. *I will be making a thread in the Misinformation and Propaganda section.

Also from the entire band's consent, I recorded their entire set on a very sexy Zoom H2 recorder so it sounds fucking badass.

During the first band's set, I was in the Green room with Charley and Kevin of Dax Riggs' band drinking beers and talking about music, band life, drums, relationships, and just shooting the shit. It felt almost like family.

I'm hoping the interview will be up on youtube soon. I am also going to immediately put up the entire set as well.the last song is a brand new, never before played song, it currently has no title.

Show tonight was great... Ghost are probably one of the best bands I have ever seen, Top 10 definitely. "Ritual" was fantastic, and I kept screaming "DEAD HUMAN SACRIFICE" at the top of my lungs  seems like I got a lot of people around me to do the same.

Opeth were fine, a little boring at times, but Demon of the Fall and The Grand Conjuration were really heavy and fun, and the crowd was a mosh-fest. Obviously wasn't able to last long though.

Mastodon were very good. I do wish they played a more varied set, but the good songs from The Hunter were really fun.

My favorite part of the night was when my brother and I were moving through the crowd during the beginning of "Crack the Skye" and all of a sudden I started bellowing "BLESSED VISIONARY, CUT ME WITH YOUR SUN, THE RIVERS RAN WITH BLOOD, SPARK FUEL TO FIRE" while passing people. Everyone was like WTF  And then when the beginning notes of "Blood and Thunder" started I fucking sprinted through the crowd to the pit... think I knocked a couple guys pretty hard on the head while doing so  The crowd was going completely 100% apeshit for that song; never seen anything like it.

Also for an outside show I was pleasantly surprised; naturally there were no acoustics because the sound just escaped into the air, but it was plenty loud and I barely even needed my earplugs.

I did interview during Meshuggah, but it was a 12 minute interview, andI only missed out on half a song.

I also have the ENTIRE Meshuggah show recorded audio wise. I gave my bassist the Zoom H2 I use for interviews for their set, just in case I couldn't get back in time.

I'm about to fix the audio on the Vogg interview (no camera man, just put it on top of this black mounted box thing by First Ave so It only has Vogg for the most part on camera. I'll be posting the interview when It's done.

Probably because breakdowns basically pre-date all *core variations. *core bands just do it badly.Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well.

The other thing is that Meshuggah is about so much more than the parts of their songs that could be labeled as breakdowns. With Meshuggah, it's also about the odd time signatures, the polyrhythms (more than one rhythm being played at the same time, sometimes even by the same person!), the high degree of difficulty of the songs themselves (and of course the ease with which they seem to play such complex songs), the unique tuning, the vocals, the lyrics, the general atmosphere...and of course the immense heaviness of many of their songs. When one considers the entire package of what Meshuggah delivers, there is almost no other band who even attempt to do what they do, and absolutely none who do it well - and there probably never will be.

Speaking of which, I will be basking in the glory that is the mighty Meshuggah in about seven hours or so myself...can't fucking wait.

Shit man I'm sorry to hear that. My brother had one last summer and my dad had one 3 years ago (almost died from it). It is absolute hell to go through. Hope you're doing ok man.

In other news, I received some of the best damn news ever in my life. I can announce anything now I probably can by Monday (A few of you already know since I excitingly told you). But following context clues (seeing how my radio show thread I bumped early this morning, that will give you a hint). I've never been happier in my radio/music career.

I caught it really early (I went to the doctor about 24 hours after I started having pain) so it wasn't in immediate danger of rupturing.

Getting ready for band practice. First practice with our ex-bassist who is filling in with us for the Marduk/1349 show next month. Not sure what our set is going to be, but with our last bassist we were re-learning "Where Dead Angel's Lie" by Dissection, so I hope we continue that route!

First day of work in about an hour. Hopefully this goes well. I have no idea how long I'm gonna be there for, but if I'm out an hour or more before Brutal Truth goes on and the interstate that I'm taking to Chicago isn't fucked by NATO I'm gonna try and book it to Nasum after.

Anyone who has a vest/patches: should I throw the vest/patches in the wash before I sew them on?

Nasum was probably the best live band that I've seen this year. (At least for bands that I haven't already seen before.)

My passenger window decided to not want to work after I parked, so I had to leave my car with the window down in the middle of Chicago until after the first two bands when it decided to work again. Not like I really had anything to steal in my car anyway and the only thing that I was worried about were my CDs.

Anybody who steals CDs/CD Cases out of cars or puts forth the effort to do so is a moron I'd say. CDs have more personal/sentimental value than monetary value these days. I'm assuming so with the rise of digital media. More than half of the CDs in my car CD case are burned copies anyway.

Nah, my body is a temple ;)

Edit: I'm actually playing the role of wingman today... a friend of mine asked me to come along to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid.

Got off work at 1:30 AM last night, so yeah, didn't make it to Nasum. Whatever, I'm seeing them in 6 days. I think I could've had a chance but one of the guys cut open his hand behind the bar and got sent home and another guy's wife was going into labor, so he was out too. That left us to close up the restaurant. Ugh... hopefully I don't get out ridiculously late tonight.

Listening to the DJ open for Sabbath. Since I've been in here he's played AIC, Red Fang, Mastodon and Clutch. I approve.

I also appear to have data signal, so who wants a live setlist? Don't normally do them, but this is Sabbath

So many great songs played by this guy so far and the only one to get cheer is Highway To Hell. Tells you kind of crowd here.
