Upon first listen, I was pretty disappointed, with a few exceptions, given I loved Locust. After two more swings, very content. Not as good as The Blackening, but it's fresh. Some tracks are incredible [This Is The End, Be Still And Know, Who We Are] and others are good. 8/10. Guessing you loved it?

My one complaint is Rob has a ways to go before he becomes an actual good singer, even though his training shone through occasionally.

It was his best, but he has a distance until he really hits that "wow" point, at least for me. As for Warbringer, gotta be honest, I loved it. It's powerful stuff. One of the best of this year. I couldn't agree with you more about Mastodon. It's good, but Crack the Skye is far superior.

Yeah I'm surprised I found it as appealing as I do, especially since screaming/yelling as a whole has gotten very old for me. I love both their last albums, so it was nice to see near perfect consistency. I would recommend another listen. :)

I haven't listened to the album yet, but I'm just surprised how well Stu can handle Iced Earth. I always loved his as a singer but I went "Uhhhh, wat?" when he initially joined, but he's perfect for the band. He does Barlow amazingly (and has the range that Barlow unfortunately lacks nowadays).

I was surprised by that decision too, but Stu has more than made his mark. He has an even more incredible range than I thought he did, and like you said, he surpasses Barlow's range nowadays. It can't be emphasized enough that Schaffer's songwriting skills have increased substantially from where they were for the past couple of years. I'm just glad I really enjoy the album, I thought it would be a less-than-decent one.
