This should have been on my top doom albums list its so good.
I had this one at the time - '07? Wasn't really all that impressed. Not really all that doomy, and just generally average in execution.

Just read Klosterman's essay on this record. Good stuff.

You don't like YOB at all though do you? It's basically a more stoner metal YOB. Nothing about it is remotely average in my opinion, well executed heavy songs with tons of awesome riffs and grooves. I would say its probably in Metal Blade's top ten debuts.

I don't have a great deal against Yob, I just don't think they're particularly special. Same goes for this album. It had it's moments, but it's a 3/5 album. Probably would have been a 4/5 album with all clean vocals, though. The extreme vocals didn't suit, although someone better at doing them might have been able to make them fit better, but they ruined several of the songs.

Over on Metal Sludge there's a strange backlash against it. Shit about how they all sound distant from each other and there's too much tension for it to be enjoyable.
Personally, I think that's a bunch of shit.

I think it's clearly better than Far Beyond Driven (very top-heavy record even though it has a few of my favorite Pantera songs) and The Great Southern Trendkill, but it's like there's always some cardinal rule against declaring it better than CFH or Vulgar. And I dunno, it's just as consistent and arguably even more pissed off, and they're great at being pissed off.

I've actually heard a couple people say Great Southern Trendkill is their favorite.
What's really funny is that there isn't a cardinal rule against saying Power Metal is Pantera's best album.

Reinventing The Steel is probably my least favorite PanterA record, it sounds like the band weren't jamming much to me, like all the parts were written by each member on their own and they only played them together in the studio then, all the rest have a real sense of the band jamming together in a garage.

You should come anyway, I'm sure it's gonna be a really small crowd. The band hasn't played the northeastern US in about 6 years now, so there's absolutely no way I'm missing this. I even considered driving three-four hours to see them at Jaxx, but sadly this had to happen the week I start my spring classes.

It's $18 according to Ticketmaster, so the price certainly isn't a determent (although including train fees would shoot that up significantly). Small crowd or big is no difference to me, although I slightly lean towards large crowd for some reason. I also wouldn't know anyone else except for you, and I'd be "that guy" just there for the sake of it lol. If I knew the opening band and I loved them, then that would change my mind.
