Anyone else playing this? I figured another zombie game I'll rent and beat in 3 days. Definitely wasn't expecting a FPS RPG action exploration game. I'm impressed. I'm ready to take it back and just buy it when it drops on ebay but it's already sunk it's teeth into me. Pun kinda intended.

Has anyone beaten it yet and is it worth a purchase?

Best video game trailer of all time, haven't played the game yet though.

I was looking forward to this, but it's just a mash-up of Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising, so what's the point?

Nah, it's definitely more like Morrowind mixed with Dead Rising.

Dead Rising is cool but it has Rockstar graphics and too many time constraints.
Left 4 Dead is fun as shit but the campaigns are too short and have little replay value.
Resident Evil used to be badass, but it's sucked since the third one and the newer ones don't have actual zombies.

I think those are really the only ones even worth mentioning... to be honest, nobody's made a FANTASTIC zombie game yet, but I think Dead Island is the closest thing so far.

I just think it plain sucks. Both of them.

Truth. And it's really irritating that they didn't fix the longevity issue with the sequel, isn't it?

So, SO wrong. The third one did kinda suck, but 4 and 5 are awesome. I haven't paid much attention to the spin-offs, although I do expect to get Operation: Raccoon City and the remastered Code: Veronica, as well as the remastered 4. And where's my fucking PSP one, Capcom? Hmm?

It takes mediocre bits from existing games and makes them into a larger mediocre game. It even tries to borrow Dead Space's atmosphere and put it in RE5's setting. They might as well have just tried to remake House of The Dead for all the new ideas it's got in it. I might pick it up when it's sub-10, because it's still a zombie game and therefore a required part of the collection.

And you forgot the zombie version of Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare ;)

I hate Rockstar :finger:

And as an old school Resident Evil fanboy, it's really hard for me to get into the new ones. RE2 was the greatest, in its time. I'm hoping the new Operation Raccoon City is good because it goes back to that storyline.

Good games are good games, manufacturer is irrelevant :finger:

I am too. And I guess games are like bands... if they change too much people lose interest. But I'm not like that with bands either, so if it changes and it's still awesome but in a new way, fine. If it changes into something that sucks (hello Queensryche), then that's different. RE went from one kind of awesome to a different kind of awesome :D

Yeah I don't play RPG's (last one was Eternal Darkness on the cube if that counts) but this is a RPG meets Grand Theft Auto meets Left for Dead. Definitely not a mindless slasher. You really need to spend you money properly and scavenge then trade/sell. You even need to be intelligent about picking your fights. I'm only on Level 15 but if you blindly run into a horde you'll get destroyed in no time.

I think I'm going to keep it a few more days then take it back and see how much I miss it. I'm guessing it's going to take a long while to beat since the missions I'm doing now require covering huge distances and I'm maybe 25% through the game?

I was about level 15, and I joined some dude's game who was level 50... zombies were amped up to his level. I got TORE THE FUCK UP.

I was a level 40 when I took the game back. Only rented it for 2 days and beat the game in coop. Alot of fun but after starting the new game + it just seems boring. Worth the play though as the first time around it is amazing. Must play in coop though as later on in the game it gets overly hard by yourself.

Yeah I'm thinking not playing coop is going to cost me. Missions where you have to escort people Single Player are BRUTAL! I just hit Level 25 and maybe it's because I haven't played a RPG in years but I love the tough decisions on how to spend the money and use the power ups. I have a few more achievements I want to get before I take it back. Will probably try coop just to check it out.

It's just really once you hit the city its just insane. Trying to go around you are always just ambushed by zombies that are stronger than you and they never stop coming!

With Gears out now and Modern Warfare coming in November... I may not be picking this up again for a while.

Pretty proud that I beat the game single player. The hardest part was having to do escort missions and missions where you have to carry things. I'd just carry them, drop them, fight and pick them up again. Took forever but it's the best way I found. The last mission and Boss at the end were awesome. Took it back without every getting to play co-op so I have that to look forward to if I pick it up off ebay.

If you skip the side missions the game probably can be beat in 2 days. Beating all missions would take almost a week I'd venture. I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend it as a rental and maybe a purchase if you like RPG's. Some cool Achievements too.

I'm busting through this game right now. Just hit the Jungle. So much fun. It feels like FO3 without character creation and only zombies instead of molerats and Deathclaws.

Bought this at Wal-Mart last week and just beat it last night.

The mission with taking the tribe leader through the village took me 3 days to complete. I was not expecting that at all. I wanted to bust the game in frustration.

It's easily one of the best games I've played in a very long time. Borderlands meets Left 4 Dead. Now I need something else to play. Might to Wal-Mart tonight to see what cheaper $20-$30 games they have.

If your looking for a good action RPG get Kingdoms Of Amaular. It's still $60 or so but with all side quests you're looking at like 75+ hours.

I will keep that in mind next time.

My bassist/roommate suggested Bulletstorm. so I'm playing that for the next couple days till I beat it.
