yeah, seriously dude. Not cool.

At least the Mayhem thread said that they had already announced a band. THIS is just mindless speculation, and way too far in advance.

yeah but they're technically the most popular death metal band ever. They even appeared on Ace Ventura, a very popular movie and I know so many people that know Hammered Smashed Face because of that scenes as well as playing it in Rock Band.

I've talked to people who don't listen to metal, and they've seen my shirt and gone "Cannibal Corpse? I've heard of them." Cannibal Corpse is basically the go-to death metal band for everyone. If you know what metal is, you know who Cannibal Corpse is.

If you know what metal is, you know who Cannibal Corpse is.

Not always, though surprisingly a lot of non-metal people do know them. However, the arguments that Cannibal Corpse aren't mainstream death metal are preposterous. Hey, no one's calling death metal mainstream, but as far as the genre itself goes, Cannibal Corpse are quite mainstream.

mastodon421
09-25-2011, 01:55 PM
Cannibal Corpse is without a doubt the most popular death metal band around, I just wouldn't call them "mainstream". Back on topic, it would be awesome if they headlined Summer Slaughter.

Dextrimental
09-25-2011, 02:25 PM
Cannibal Corpse are fairly mainstream in the grand scheme of things. They were hardly unknown when they got on the Mayhem festival, and everyone knows their logo. All they really need is some high profile lawsuit for their music being blamed for someones suicide or mental breakdown and they'll be all over commercial radio :P

They'd make a very suitable Summer Slaughter headliner though!

Cannibal Corpse was in Ace Ventura and were one of the main bands campaigned against to censor music by...I think it was Bob Dole. He namechecked them in a speech, I think.

But yeah. I think Cannibal Corpse is too big to do Summer Slaughter, but if they are on it then that means they'll probably step up the venue sizes for SS.

Not really, that'd be the third time they headlined and they draw a FUCK TON of scene kids. I noticed that when Necrophagist headlined two years ago, there wasn't a lot of scene kids and primary death metal fans. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE BDM. It just seems that Summer Slaughter is trying to go for a more death metal approach next year... doubt they'll go through with it but we'll see. This is the lineup that I would like to see for Summer Slaughter 2012:
Cannibal Corpse
Amon Amarth
The Faceless
Born Of Osiris
Gojira
Skeletonwitch
Obscura
Goatwhore
The Contortionist
Son Of Aurelius

This is actually pretty realistic. Take out Goatwhore, and either Amon Amarth or Gojira (both have crossover appeal with deathcore kiddies, but I couldn't see both of those bands being on here), and I can absolutely see this happening.

They are a fucking great live band. Their singer is a fucking madman, they closed out their set with "Slaughter The Immortals" and he jumped into the crowd and did almost the entire song in the pit.

So according to one of the users on Absolutepunk, they are still aiming to get Cannibal Corpse and BTBAM to coheadline this, and he also mentioned Job For A Cowboy, Obscura, Skeletonwitch, and Last Chance to Reason. That, combined with a few other rumors that we've seen, and I could see next year's lineup looking something like this, assuming all the rumors end up being true:

Cannibal Corpse
Between the Buried and Me
---
Job For A Cowboy
Hate Eternal
Obscura
Exhumed
Carnifex
Skeletontits
Last Chance to Reason
*Vacant Spot* (Maybe to vote for the opener again?)

I could not disagree more. BTBAM fucking destroys live (and on disc). They are amongst my fave live bands of all time, they might even be my favorite. I wasn't even a hardcore fan of theirs when I saw them for the first time in 08 when they were opening for Bodom, but after that show they become one of my favorite bands instantly. It made me appreciate their music even more. I have now seen them six times and I plan on seeing them every possible time I can.

I think BTBAM would get well received. They have a wide appeal and every time I see them, they get incredible reception. I think they would even work on Summer Slaughter with a extreme metal lineup. Animals As Leaders got a great reception in 2010, so I can see BTBAM getting one too.

Deathcore kids don't want technical Death-influenced Metal. They want Br000000000tal.

But case in point, the lineup is nowhere near finalized yet, so let all the speculation keep going.

Good bands in 2007 - basically every single one save Beneath the Massacre:

Necrophagist, Decapitated, Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation, The Faceless, As Blood Runs Black, Arsis, Ion Dissonance, Daath

Good bands in 2008 - every one but two:

TBDM, Kataklysm, Vader, Cryptopsy, The Faceless, Despised Icon, Aborted, Born of Osiris

Good bands in 2009 - all but FOUR now:

Necrophagist, Suffocation, Ensiferum, Dying Fetus, Born of Osiris, Origin, After the Burial, Decrepit Birth

Good bands in 2010 - getting better, all but two:

Decapitated, The Faceless, Veil Of Maya, Decrepit Birth, Cephalic Carnage, Animals as Leaders, Vital Remains

Good bands in 2011 - only five decent bands left, FIVE bands sucking major ass:

TBDM, Dying Fetus, As Blood Runs Black, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Powerglove

The only reason I don't see this happening is because Christian is in Obscura, and Hannes told me that Obscura might be on this. depending on what the lineup will be. The More Death Metal, Obscura will be on it, The more Deathcore, Obscura will not be on it.

I don't see how that would be a problem. Spawn of Possession is direct support for Obscura's upcoming European tour.

Edit: Unless you meant that Spawn of Possession might not be on it if Obscura isn't. That could be a problem, but it's too far in advance to speculate much. I would hope both bands get on it though. Then this would be a worthwhile tour again.

There's actually a lot of good bands who can potentially play this year.

And I honestly think there may not be as much deathcore this year. I think we may see a few djent bands instead.

Of course we'll get djent, that's what all the kiddies listen to nowadays.

I'll be shocked if we get more than two death metal bands.

Seeing as how Structures are a mix of djent and deathcore, I could see them getting on it next year.

Aborted would be awesome. They do have a new album coming out, plus they are overdue for some US touring.

Not entirely unlikely some of those good bands might end up playing Summer Slaughter at one point or another, but it's too much goodness, not enough terrible deathcore.

Yea I figured none of those bands have played summer slaughter besides atb,and they are all great live bands XD

I just heard yesterday from a reliable source that the SS camp is currently in talks with Obituary, Morbid Angel, and Suffocation. As someone has already said in this thread, Cannibal is confirmed. I guess they're trying to make a "big 4 of death metal" type bill to coincide with 2012 being the supposed year of the apocalypse.

The Big 4 of Death metal would be great.....if there isn't a shitton of Deathcore opening for it. I still have it on my phone where Hannes said that the only reason Obscura would not do this tour is if there was a lot of Deathcore on it.

eh, Cannibal Corpse is bigger than Morbid Angel

keep in mind they haven't toured the US in awhile(so they probably wouldn't headline), then again look at Six Feet Under last year, they were billed kinda low(not a big fan, but they have been around awhile)

Seriously, and his lyrics. "This is the day of doooooooommmmm" Oh, I wouldn't have gathered that from the title of the song being "Doomsday." I don't know what happened once he left Cannibal Corpse, but he's almost as pathetic as Paul Di'Anno. Plus, all of those cover albums are fucking garbage. Covers like that are only cool in a live setting, I'll accept recording one and making it a bonus or hidden track on a record, but 3 full albums??

Whitechapel is far more popular than SFU, though. Not saying that's how it should be necessarily, but it is. Especially because Whitechapel is a money maker that draws in the kids.

Agree on all points. Barnes can't even do Cannibal Corpse songs properly anymore. At Summer Slaughter, he absolutely butchered Hammer Smashed Face and Stripped, Raped, Strangled. Six Feet Under was honestly worse than Oceano that day and I didn't think that was possible.
