Yeah, I'm hoping on the top 10 albums bandwagon, but I'm going to do the 10 albums that shaped my taste in metal(Including the albums that got me into metal). These albums are by no means my favorite albums ever(Though some are) but just albums that changed my life musically.
This will be hard for me, as I'm not good with lists, but let's see how this goes.
Who knows, maybe I will get better at this list thing and make more. Also I have school, so don't expect this to be done anytime soon ;).

So yeah, #10 coming up soon. :D

10. Painkiller - Judas Priest
http://www.progboard.com/graphx/covers/7123.jpg

Well what can I say about this album... I guess since this is considered a album that got me into metal, I'll start with the story behind it.
Well right as I was getting into metal I asked a few kids I knew on the internets about metal and what to start out with. Apparently one of the kids I asked is one of the biggest Judas Priest fans. He immediately recommended his favorite album, Painkiller. So of course I went to the store and picked it up. I got home and put it in and began to play it.
All of a sudden Painkiller kicked in and I was a beginner drummer at the time and the best way I could explain my reaction is this
:wow:
At the time I just couldn't believe my ears, something so old to me was just so fast and so awesome. Then the guitars and vocals just kicked in and I just knew I was in love. I mean Halford has become one of my favorite metal vocalists of all time and this album sure as hell displays the power of his voice. Downing and Tipton just fucking SHRED throughout this whole album as well. Honestly I just can't see why someone couldn't like this album. Everything about is awesome, the vocals, the drums, the guitar. They all work together to make an album that to me, defines metal.
So in the end, this album showed me what metal was all about, it also really opened my eyes to the fact that high pitched vocals could be metal as fuck as well. Just at the point of my life I never heard something that shredded and ripped as hard as this album did. This album and Judas Priest will always have a place in my metal heart.

Stand-Out Tracks(Though the whole album kicks ass):
Painkiller (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwy72BX3JP0&feature=fvst)
Metal Meltdown (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOzulXud52I&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL)

Man, A Touch Of Evil is pretty much my favorite Priest song. That's gotta be in the stand out tracks no matter who you are :bouville:

Great album. I remember getting it and thinking that it was the standard sound for Priest. Boy was I surprised when I checked out their other stuff.

YEAH BITCH, ONE YEAR LATER AND IM BACK TO DO THIS SHIT.

Actually I'm procrastinating on work, so might as well work on the ultimate procrastination project over here.

So yeah LETS DO THIS.

9. Nocturnal - The Black Dahlia Murder
http://www.on-parole.com/shop/24751-33947-thickbox/the-black-dahlia-murder-nocturnal-cd.jpg

Fuck, if only I could recall the day I found out about this album. It was a little bit after Mayhem 09, I had to miss them due to heat exhaustion but after a few months I decided to get a album from them. As usual when I was young, I'd search them on youtube, listen to a song, if I liked it, I'd get the album it was from. That song was "What a Horrible Night to Have a Cure".
:rocker:
Holy fuck I was blown away, the drums, the guitar (that fucking solo), and the vocals. I honestly thought it was 2 vocalists, I couldn't believe that he could switch from such amazing highs, to such amazing lows. I was in love. I immediately downloaded the album. I have to say, there is not a single song I find boring here. All have catchy as fuck riffs, amazing drumming, badass solos, evil lyrics, and Trevors voice is top notch throughout. I just always find myself air guitaring or drumming to this album. This band made me really realize how badass high screams could be, plus it made me completely love badass melodic death metal. Sure this may have no effected me as much as painkiller or maybe all the albums in this list, but it really made me realize how awesome and beautifully catchy metal can be, that it would be something I'd love forever, even if I strayed away from it.

Stand-Out Tracks:
Everything Went Black (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BasoXQhcUQ)

Nocturnal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DcAjsZU3ik)

Deathmask Divine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgxAaCjsYq0&feature=relmfu)

Though, like Painkiller, I love each song on this album.

8. Crack the Skye - Mastodon
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d09OO3z0JtY/UElmDEvrjSI/AAAAAAAACwc/gxzxyu_53EU/s1600/mastodon+cover.jpg

I feel like this album gets a lot of hate, probably because it doesn't live up to Leviathan and Blood Mountain. While now I agree it isn't as epic as either as those, when I first heard this album, I was in complete love. Not only was it my introduction to more progressive music, but it added emotions of music I haven't felt before, I was in 8th grade when this album came out, most of my music was anger filled music, which I didn't hate, but to be introduced into the same heaviness of metal with an emotion that wasn't anger really changed my perspectives on music. The album to me, really hit me on emotional levels through the music. It was shocking for me, since I wasn't ever that touched on emotional level through music. I feel like I'm repeating myself at this point  Regardless the whole album is fucking awesome regardless, sure it isn't the Mastodon most people wanted, but I think all these track are epic as fuck. Plus this album opened me up to more progressive metal. I even considered getting the ghosts on the cover tattooed on me, but as time progressed, the album hasnt been the same to me, I prefer their older stuff. It's still awesome as fuck though :D

"Crack the Skye sucks" actually isn't a popular opinion at all. If you surveyed every Mastodon fan in the world on what their favorite Mastodon album is, Crack the Skye would probably get the most votes, or at least be very close with Leviathan.

Crack the Skye doesn't suck, but it almost does.

I've never heard anybody say BM was better than CTS.

Are you kidding me?

Crack the Skye is probably their worst album (it definitely is for me), and Blood Mountain is pretty obviously their second best after Leviathan. What kinda bizarro world message board is this that you've NEVER heard ANYBODY say BM was better than CTS? It should be the prevailing opinion.

7. Tomb of the Mutilated - Cannibal Corpse

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/75405108/Tomb+of+the+Mutilated+Cannibal+Corpse+Tomb+Of+The+ Mu.png

Officially the band AND album to get me into Death Metal, up until Cannibal Corpse, the heaviest thing I had heard was Slayer. Plus before this album, I had never listened to anything with growls, the closest to screams I listened too was Slipknot  I again, listened to them before Mayhem Fest considering they were one of the bigger acts, plus seeing a picture of the band and the band name, I was really curious. So I went and downloaded what I presumed to be their most popular album, Tomb of the Mutilated. So I just pressed play and :eek::eek:
Holy fuck, I don't care what you say, Hammer Smashed Face is one of the most brutal songs of all time. The intro completely smashes your inside and goes into one of the most epic death metal riffs ever. The song just never lets up, it's pure fucking carnage. Plus the breakdown  Then right comes the infamous I Cum Blood, which at first didn't seem that special with the alright intro, it came into the main chuggy riff which just had me watering at the mouth. It was beautiful, heavy, violent, and catchy as fuck. I loved it and I needed more of it. Addicted to Vaginal Skin continued with the good riffage, but definitely not up to par with the first 2 tracks. The next song, Split Wide Open is probably my least favorite song, I find it quite boring. Necropedophile brings back the awesome heavy and catchy riffs I longed for, while Cryptic Stench begins well, the song gets old after a while. On the other hand Entrails' Ripped from a Virgin's Cunt is kinda boring as well. Thankfully the last two songs Post Mortal Ejaculation and Beyond the Cemetery are much better, Beyond the Cemetary is my 3rd favorite song on the album. Plus a teen in love with horror at the time, the lyrics were awesomely hilarious to me, like someone finally understood my sick twisted humor :P
Overall, this album, while important to me, isn't even close too my favorite album from them. That would have to go to Eaten Back to Life  Regardless, the album is great and a classic.
