We've been very patient with Gojira. They've promised us a new EP and a full length album this year. They've teased us with an amazing new song featuring Devin Townsend and Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal. But still no releases. So what gives? Drummer Mario Duplantier recently revealed some morcels of information to help explain what the plan is:

Speaking with Australia's Loud magazine, he issued this reasoning as to why the EP is so delayed:

"The music is ready, but we're waiting on [a] vocalist. We want to release it as soon as possible, maybe August or September. When you ask to put singers on the record, it makes it difficult. If it's just Joe [Duplantier; guitar/vocals] on voice, that makes it easier, but it's not easy . . . The music has been ready for six months, but the people who accepted to be part of the project had a lot of scheduling conflicts. Each song has different vocalists; it will be four very different songs. It's not an album, so we decided to have fun. One is very fast, one is very slow, one has a very rock vibe it's very different to the album."

Besides the aformentioned Townsend and Thordendal, the EP is supposed to feature guest spots from Lamb of God's Randy Blythe, Max Cavalera and Anders from In Flames. I wonder who is holding up the process. Regardless, the fact that they are having fun with this gets me very very excited, because it allows them to explore areas where they normally wouldn't go on a full length, which is something I am very interested in hearing.

Duplantier also checked in on the promised full-length and the current timeline for that release saying he hopes the band would be done recording in October for an early 2012 release, adding no album or song titles have been picked yet.

Of course an issue that Metalsucks brought up recently is Gojira doesn't even have a label right now, so obviously that needs to be sorted before any release is made. The 'suckers have intel that says the band is asking for a lot of money for their advance and some majors have already passed. My money is on the band landing at Roadrunner. They're the biggest metal label in the game right now, and their promo machine and Gojira's rather accessible sound would work perfectly together.

But the most important thing is that we hear new Gojira music and I hope we hear it sooner than later.
