I'm digging it. The 70's prog sound Akerfeldt was talking about definitely shows.

Not really looking forward to a full album of this. Bring back death metal. :hmm:

You are CRAZY Brad.

The YouTube link on Metalsucks is down, but someone else put a link up to another site streaming it in the comments.

And oh my god... Oh. My. GOD. This is good. Like really, really fucking good. It's definitely softer Opeth (which is the best Opeth), yet it's more rock-y and groovy and proggy than their other soft stuff. This has just reaffirmed my faith in this album so goddamn much. Can't wait to get my signed copy of the album in te mail...

I like it. Reminds me a bit of Porcelain Heart from the Watershed album.

I like it. From the interviews Mikael did I was wanting a heavy 70's prog album and at least this song sounds like just that.

This was how I was reacting when I first heard there was going to be no Death Metal aspects to the new album, but I like this song a lot.

I am disappoint.

EDIT: Not because you don't like it, just because I'm pretty sure Opeth is one of your favorite bands, correct me if I'm wrong.

Sexy. I am in. I love this already. I don't even care that my birthday is in September. This will be the best part of September is this album.

Oh, they are. September will be my sixth time seeing them. Blackwater Park is probably a top ten all time album for me. Just not feeling this song one bit. Frankly the whole "clean but also not mellow" Opeth that we saw so much of on Watershed is my least favorite style they do, and I'm guessing this album is just gonna be a whole bunch of that.

I've never been an Opeth fan, mostly because I find their music to be a good cure for insomnia -- on record or live. That new song just sounds like Yes with deeper vocals. I'm not sure if that's an improvement or not.

Meh, it's alright I suppose. Really not that interesting at all though. A whole album of that will be far too wearing. Hopefully the other songs are much more dynamic, otherwise it's going to be pretty damn dull. And not because there's no death metal either.

I think alot of people thought that the OSI song was new Opeth because Mikael Akerfeldt does the vocals and not alot of people have heard it. And it doesn't have any death metal. I really like that song, though.

I fucking LOVE IT.

Glad I'm not alone. I am extremely excited to hear the rest of this album. Though I was already quite stoked after reading about the new direction.

And now I have to figure out if I should go to the show or not. I really want to, but it's quite expensive ($50) and only three nights after Enslaved/Alcest/Ghost ($22), which I definitely won't be missing. Firewind/Arsis is the same week as well.

:bouville:

Fuck.

It's not like Opeth had a lot of death metal to begin with. Other than the vocals and guitar tone, their music has always been pretty much progressive metal for the most part.

This

I'm used to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMrYSTzqFI8) being the standard for 70's prog, so anything else just sounds boring.

There are more than that. There's a clip from one of the songs off Aryeon's The Human Equation, and an Akercocke song.

Shit, this sounds absolutely amazing. It's taking everything I adore about the clean side of Opeth and making it more amazing. This is gonna blow the lid off Damnation, no doubt. Might be my album of the year, too.

Not bad, but you know what. A lot of it just sounds like someone playing regular Opeth songs with the distortion switched off and singing all the death parts melodically, then tracking a load of organ over the top.

'Folklore' sounds pretty sweet though.
