Morbid Angel AND Suffocation in the same show? I've been dreaming of this for years. I'll update this thread with new info as it starts to get released. I know I'll be going for sure again!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT YES. I seriously thought this was a joke when I first read this! :D

Demigod is amazing, now they just need to add Antaeus, Behexen, Tribulation, Adorior, and Weapon and I won't have to go to Rites of Darkness!

Morbid Angel, Dragged Into Sunlight, and Church of Misery should also be great:rocker:

I think they're still trying to get a Mercyful Fate reunion going, hopefully if King is feeling better. Also this lineup is not even half announced and it's already got a ton of people going (myself included)!!!

I remember how when Enthroned + D666 did their last tour, the first promo flyers for the tour had shining opening, but eventually they were replaced by the polar opposite, Pathology. Still good, but way different.

ShatteredFlame

Yeah I saw those for the first time at MDF actually. Niklas promotes violence and suicide at his shows, has attacked audience members and even his own band members at his shows. So I can see why he would have trouble getting on to a tour.

So far the least impressive lineup I've seen. If it were in CA I'd definitely go, but all the bands I want to see I have seen before (or will see) so I don't feel the urge to travel. Add Sodom for real this time, Immortal and a few other huge extreme metal bands that don't usually play and I'll be there. Or just Bolt Thrower again. I'd go to Maryland for just Bolt Thrower.
Also keep in mind the Slumber era Demigod thing is not permanent, and new Demigod...meh.

I don't remember last years first batch, but Autopsy, Nuclear Assault, Destroyer 666, Nunslaughter etc. are significantly cooler than this. But, theres a shit ton more bands to be announced so I'm sure they'll bust out some great stuff.

I'd rather have more Asphyx/Autopsy then Sodom, just like last time.

The Devil's Blood should be cool. I've heard way more positive things about them live, than I have heard about Ghost. Plus I really dig their music. (Ghost is cool too, I just think I will enjoy TDB more live judging from YT videos).

It said this was an exclusive US date.

I saw that. I realize they are only playing one date at that time, no tour involved, as usual for exclusive US dates. They once said they would never come back to the states to play a show, now that they are, then maybe there will be more in the future at some point after this fest. POTR is usually 3 months after MDF, so I just threw that one out there since this year is full of doom metal bands.

Can someone fill me in on Electric Wizard not being able to play the states recently?

They tried doing a tour of the states once and got caught with drugs, so the tour failed and the band broke up cause of it, so they just figured the US was a place to never go to again cause of the bad times here

Usually bands that play MDF do shows around the U.S. before or after MDF. That was the case with Nocturnal and Witchaven, Orange Goblin, and probably more I'm missing.

And holy shit, I just checked out Negura Bunget for the first time... They better be playing late at night indoors because that would be perfect. This is some AWESOME stuff, I gotta look into them more now!

I know that there are bands that do it. It's just seemed the past couple years that the bands I'd really be going to see aren't the ones that did dates around it (Impaled Nazarene, Melechesh, Sigh, to name a few, or General Surgery did a bunch of dates but they were mainly west coast).

Yeah, if they end up playing outside and/or during the day, it would be such a scheduling fail. Glad you enjoyed it, they're fantastic. Om is a near perfect album, definitely check that one out. You can't really go wrong with any of their stuff, though.

Statement from MDF:

"We're in the middle of piecing together the final round of band announcements for MDF X. There is no specific date for the announcement, but it will be coming pretty soon. Truth be told, we'd love to keep booking bands, but there's only so much space, and we're not the biggest fans of having 2 bands play at one time. We're pretty confident that the last round of bands will be a fine way to round out the billing for the 10th anniversary of MDF."

Looking through the comments, the bands they can't get so far are dUSK and Sodom. Don't know who dUSK are but no Sodom isn't really a surprise, although it sucks that they can't play.

Pretty much this. MDF to me has been for the past few years the festival to go to with bands that don't tour all that much at the top of the bill. The thing with Behemoth is that they toured so much recently that it wouldn't feel special to see them here. They'd probably fill up Sonar on their own anyway so Ryan and Evan wouldn't need them.

I could see Bolt Thrower, At the Gates, or Mercyful Fate as the last headliner if Autopsy isn't, with a curve ball of Venom always possible.

EDIT: Perhaps Carcass if there's some sort of special set attached to their appearance.

Well, Bolt Thrower or Behemoth? Behemoth has toured the US plenty of times in the past five years or so. Bolt Thrower hardly plays in North America. In fact, aside from their MDF appearance, I don't think they've played here for years. Same goes for Dismember. What attracts people to the festival is the opportunity to see a bunch of great bands they otherwise would not have the chance to see.

I get that's the point of the fest, to get bands that don't tour often or play the U.S at all. Suffocation tours pretty frequently (probably around the same amount Behemoth does), so if Suffocation is on here, in theory why couldn't Behemoth be too? I won't be heartbroken if Behemoth isn't there (they probably won't be), but saying they shouldn't be is kind of stupid.

And if they were to book other bands that played before I hope that at least one of Coffins, Asphyx, Obituary, Deceased, (Bolt Thrower) or Sinister is added

I really hope that Pig Destroyer rumor is true, I would kill to see them.

But look at the other point I made before that post. Suffocation, although they have clean production now, isn't exactly a modern death metal band. They will still play "Liege of Inveracity", "Infecting the Crypts", and other old classics. Booking Behemoth might make more sense if they at least stayed true to their black metal albums, but they usually only play one old song these days, if that.

Edit: I have a feeling somebody is going to tell me Suffocation is a modern death metal band, but I would like to clarify that just because their technical style had a major influence on what we now call modern death metal, does not necessarily mean that is what Suffocation is. I have a hard time calling something released in 1991 (or even 1995) modern. So, to me Suffocation fits in fine on MDF, but they wouldn't make a good headliner, due to the fact that they tour often. Which is likely why they weren't announced as a headliner anyway.

That being said, Suffocation wouldn't make a good headliner for MDF.

Suffo has headlined MDF before. Like in its first year.

The thing is that Suffocation doesn't have a headlining spot since they're from the US and tour frequently and thus it doesn't disappoint anybody. Who's gonna complain about seeing Suffocation in preparation of another awesome band

However, Behemoth with everything that happened to Nergal wouldn't have a normal spot, they would definitely be a headliner. That's what would disappoint everybody because we all know they will come and tour soon.

But with all that said, I would still go see Behemoth if they were at MDF and headband my fucking life!

Not to mention Suffocation was the original MDF headliner and there is kind of this "best of" theme going on right now.

EDIT: lol I posted late

Found these comments from MDF regarding Bolt Thrower

re: Bolt Thrower. Seems like they don't want to live up to the 2009 performances. Give us another year or two of bothering them to come back.

---

some guy: "Bolt Thrower hates America. Only possible explanation."

MDF" Don't think that's true. They've always been very selective about their live shows. It took 4 or 5 years of us asking them to play before they finally did in

So maybe there's hope for the future?
