Oh shit, nevermind. :)

Bad Brains, Converge, Terror, DRI, Shai Hulud all in one tent...

Same with Mayhem, Possessed, Belphegor, Vader, Krisiun, and Malevolent Creation

Drooling over Hellfest's line-up is always silly. In one long list, sure it looks like a hell of a bill.

But when you consider that 80% of them will play no more than 40 minutes, and most of them will play at the same time, it's not better than most other festivals, and not as good as many others. Look at that Priest setlist. Even they didn't get that long to play.

Festival line-ups should only be rated in context: http://www.jukeboxmetal.com/wp-content/uploads/hellfest2011runningorder.pdf

Not to mention the number of cancellations they have every year. This year: Lock Up, Satantic Warmaster, Disturbed, Unleashed, Black Rain, Skeletonwitch, Gorguts, Masters of Reality, Trust, Wayne Static, Anal Cunt (obviously), Buzzov*en and The Gates of Slumber all cancelled. Way more than any other major festival.

Ha, I don't think it's fair to claim SW was a cancellation when they were thrown off the bill because one of the bigger bands bitched about their politics. The people who run Hellfest are pussies for pulling that, as are whatever lame band (sadly probably a good band..) made that request.

I believe it was Kreator yes. They did the same once on a different festival and we all remember the Taake incident don't we?

Anybody got the Mayhem setlist?

what are their politics?

Werwolf uses swastikas in a lot of things outside Satanic Warmaster, a few of the lyrics deal with vaguely pro-fascist ideas and in interviews/forums he's said quite a few extremely anti-Semitic/right wing things. That said, he public denies being a nazi, something to the effect of "there are more options that just nazi/not nazi. I hold a lot of sympathy for the 3rd Reich but I'm not a nazi."

Impressive. I thought Mustaine was the only one who could play the politics / getting other bands kicked off of festivals card. Didn't know Kreator could pull that off.

Oh hell I don't actually know. I thought it was implied it was Kreator. Disturbed makes more sense. Bigger name plus I know how bent out of shape Draimain got even with Lemmy and his nazi paraphernalia. I'd have a hard time thinking Kreator would have the influence to get someone kicked off a festival. But I could be wrong.

This whole thing happened a long time ago and I'm pretty sure it was Kreator. Definitely wasn't Disturbed.

eehhhh...that's a no go. i can't blame any band who wouldnt want to perform on the same stage as someone who'd say stuff like that.

What difference does it make what another band says or thinks? Especially at a festival that big, they'd probably never even run into each other. Petty bullshit imo.

Lemmy is not a nazi, just a collector. People should stop seeing people who are interested in WO II as neo-nazis, faciscts and whatever.

You gotta admit that it is a little weird to collect Nazi stuff. It's got too much of a connotation for him to be let of free for purchasing it.

Why is it weird? It's an important part of history and it can be very fascinating. I had a teacher who admitted to having a Nazi flag in his office at home, as well as an original Confederate flag. He collected those flags due to their historical importance, not because he believes in what they symbolize.

What if I collected KKK memorabilia for it's "historical value"? When is it ok or unacceptable?

I'll repeat myself here: I see no problem with collecting said artifacts if you are not emulating what they represent. Should we erase any remnants of the holocaust because it was a terrible event? Maybe I just value history more than you do, but I think we need to preserve all of our past, good and bad.

Just because you see no problem with it doesn't mean other people will. A person can go out and collect Nazi artifacts and view it from the angle you present, but there are always gonna be people who view the opposite and find it inappropriate. By all means, the person should continue his/her collecting since they have every right to, but accept the fact that they're going to get criticized because of it.

Look, I absolutely love history and learning about it, but there are some things that are just more appropriate in museums rather than private collections. It's important to remember the good and bad as you said, but who is remembering it if you're hoarding it in your house? Only you. There's a fine line between displaying something in rememberance and to teach others versus keeping it for personal enjoyment or preference.

Personally, if someone has an obsession with Nazi atrifacts, I see them as being somewhat apathetic to the whole holocaust issue. But that's just me. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this topic.

I was about to say exactly this. I love history too, and these artifacts should absolutely be preserved, no question about it. But if an individual person is only collecting Nazi artifacts, it can come off as pretty strange. I'm not saying that the guy is necesarily a Nazi or sympathetic to their cause, he may just be especially interested in that era of history, but like I said, it's kinda weird. Either way, people will question his motives.

It's not Lemmy's fault that Nazi's had the most badass looking uniforms, symbols, weapons, vehicles, color schemes etc. of any modern military power.
Nazi's look fucking awesome. Plus their history is fascinating, and impressive(if you can get past the whole holocaust thing.)
I see nothing wrong with collecting historical objects from bad people.

Besides, I'll collect memorabilia from other periods & countries too.
