They're sponsoring another tour and revealing who it is with clues, as they did with the Arch Enemy/Exodus/Arsis tour.

First clue:

This year they will release their sixth studio album.
Their most recent album was produced by a member of Anthrax.
They have banned in parts of China due to their political views.

I know who it is. Do you?

Well for their last tour, they announced the opening bands first and led up to the headliner. I'd assume this is the same.

They took him to Boston, to Kalamazoo,

To Dayton, Ohio; St. Paul, Minnesota;
To Wichita, Kansas; to Drake, North Dakota.

That's awesome, though. Seediq Bale is a killer record, haven't really checked out anything they've put out since for some reason. Were awesome at Ozzfest, DEFINITELY interested in seeing them again. Curious to see who else is playing, but this already has my interest.

I was supposed to see them open for Satyricon a few years ago, but the venue decided due to low ticket sales, to move another show to after the Satyricon show, and times were cut short, and Chtonic were dropped from the bill...... Talk about a boner killer. When the lineup is two awesome openers, shitty metalcore, then poser black metal, and one of the openers drops? *crai*

There is no doubt Skeletontits is awesome. but I never got into ChthoniC. Granted the last time I listened to them was years ago, but they never caught on with me.

I already Saw DevilDriver with Opeth and Dark Tranquillity...pretty hard to top that. Try it!

Arch Enemy, as much as they've gotten better music, and no matter how hot Angela is, she ruins the music for me. I can't really pinpoint why, but just something annoys me about it.

If they were truly a gimmick like you say, they'd be as popular as Paramore and Flyleaf, and whatever other bands are famous simply cause there's tits in the band. Arch Enemy doesn't exactly flaunt the fact that there's tits singing, unlike most female singer bands. In This Moment are popular just for the mere fact there's tits in the band. It's the 'In' thing now to like female fronted bands.

No, because Arch Enemy play death metal. They cannot be as popular as Paramore or Flyleaf.

...except that Angela Gossow is a legitimately good death metal vocalist, and one of the best out there I would argue. If you knew nothing of Arch Enemy's image, and had heard only the music, it would still sound like excellent death metal with solid vocals.

If she sucked at screaming, a la In This Moment or Straight Line Stitch, I would call it a gimmick. Good thing thats not the case.

I strongly disagree. I think she's one of the weaker death metal vocalists. I don't mind her vocals, but there are many better vocalists out there. And as for the music itself, some of it is catchy, but it is mostly just mediocre. Their early work is great though.

Well considering he's been with the same band for about ten years now and their albums sales don't exactly lead to gold or platinum certifications, I don't see how he's a trendhopping poser. If he was, he'd been way more successful and wouldn't stick with a band that only sells about 10,000 copies an album.

Damn, this is interesting. I didnt realize there was Arch Enemy hate; I thought they were unversally accepted as being plain awesome.

It's not so much hate that I have for them. Musically they're very good. But my reason for not caring is that i've never been a fan of the death metal vocal style. I've always been one that tends to enjoy a good melody when I hear someone sing. The death metal vocal style, weather sung by a man, woman, or a woman sounding like a man, is something that either appeals to you or it doesn't. There really isn't any middle ground with it. The band has found their audience which is all you can ask of any band but they are deffinitely not a band that has a universal appeal to them.

I do enjoy me some DevilDriver from time to time. They're not my favorite but they're one of the bands I listen to when I take a break from my regular listening rotation. I've never understood the amount of hate they get on here. I see people rip on them all the time yet i've never seen anyone give a good reason as to why that is:confused:

Arch Enemy really isn't anything special. They're just a giant gimmick, because the girl sounds like a guy.

She's not that great of vocalist. She's average, at best. Nothing special whatsoever. At the risk of wasting my time here, let me just say that I think you're missing the point a bit. What's most impressive about her vocals is precisely that she CAN sound so much like a guy. Female vocal cords are smaller and vibrate at higher frequencies - it's just a fact. She brings the heat, though. She can scream with the best of the guys out there, and she definitely has the proper attitude about metal as well. She's a lifelong Carcass fan, and it shows in her stage presence (not that you or the other haters have ever bothered to notice). She's stoked as fuck to be in a band with one of the founding members of Carcass, and her enthusiasm and skill are fun to listen to on album, and even more fun to watch live - at least I think so.

Except for the fact that every guy that listens to the band always says "I'd totally fuck her so hard!!!1!!1!!1!11"She's definitely not to hard on the eyes, but that has almost nothing to do with why I like her as the frontperson for Arch Enemy. It's true that a rocking chick who knows what the hell she is doing in front of a crowd is a bit more appealing to the crowd in general than if a guy were out there doing the exact same thing, but to say (or knowingly imply) that this is the only reason that anyone likes Arch Enemy is just plain narrow-minded and stupid.

I loosely agree with the assessment that Arch Enemy have a gimmicky sort of deal going on. I flip flop a lot. It's easy to assume that they have a gimmick going on. It's not easy for me to prove - even to myself - that they don't, to some extent. I mean, let's face it - they do have a lot of female fans in the crowds at their shows who might not be listening if it weren't for Angela...and a few guy fans as well who might not have paid attention otherwise...and I'm sure they know this. However, I don't think that whoring themselves out for fans is what Arch Enemy is all about at all. Angela has the job because she auditioned for it (against a bunch of dudes, I'm sure), and she was damn good, so they hired her. She's an integral part of the band now, and she's proven that she belongs. In fact, some of the older songs that they've re-recorded with her vocals sound just as good - if not better - than the originals. I didn't think that would be the case, but it really is. This is precisely why I liked "The Root of All Evil" as much as I did (much to my surprise).

And I HATE female vocals in metal. They just don't work.I don't even know what the fuck to say about this insane statement. There are TONS of cases where female vocals in metal are not only acceptable, but downright fucking awesome (Julie Christmas, Laura Pleasants, Grace Perry...the list is just infinitely long). I mean, to each his own I guess, but I have a really hard time believeing that any true metal fan can't find at least one example of female vocals in the genre that works on some level for them. That just seems highly unlikely.

For my part, I don't automatically get turned on just because there's a female at the mic, or playing guitar or bass, or behind the kit or playing a cello or anything else. She's got to prove herself just like any guy. If she has the chops, then she has the chops. I don't rule out women in metal and I don't automatically accept them either. What's good for the goose is good for the gander...if you can fucking rock my face off, then let's get it on mother fucker!!!

EDIT: Oh, and I'm very interested in this tour. Hope it comes close to Cleveburg.

Because he has an opinion. Just because a band means a whole lot to you doesn't mean that everyone else gets the same feeling from them. That's why there's so many different genres of not only metal but music as a whole. What sounds great to you might sound like garbage to someone else.
