Shit that would be sweet. I have always wanted to see Thin Lizzy!!!! What a lineup that would be. That would then be BLS' "last US tour for awhile" after this tour right?

They sounded great when I saw them on Tuesday. Since they're sounding so good right now they may as well keep it going for a bit longer;)

Strange lineup. You would think Priest would hold off on their American tour till next year since they've booked a lot of dates over the summer elsewhere. I wonder if this is a Priest/Lizzy co-headling tour or if Lizzy and BlS are opening for priest. Probably the latter since a co-headling tour would mean less songs from each band and this is priest's final tour.

Lizzy would struggle to co-headline with Priest in Ireland. Let alone the US.

I was wondering myself where Lizzy would actually play on this bill. Weather or not they would open or BLS would. Granted Lizzy was popular back in the day and have a few songs that are staples on classic rock radio, but i'm not so sure that they're more popular in the US right now than BLS is. I'm not a fan so can anyone who's seen Lizzy live recently in the US have an idea of how the turnout is for them?

It should be pointed out that the current line-up of Lizzy (thanks to Ricky Warwick) is comfortably the most popular line-up since Phil, and the most highly praised in terms of live performances. They're even talking about recording new material for the first time in however long it's been.

For sure Lizzy are at the beginning of the second most popular era of their careers. But they're not on Priest's level, and in the US... with the teenage support for BLS, they're probably not on BLS's level either.

One "original" member. Two "classic era" members.

Saw them in Glasgow in January and the the new lineup is really good. I guess its a good chance for exposure to a wider and possibly younger audience but, still, its hard to stomach Lizzy opening for BLS...

They're even talking about recording new material for the first time in however long it's been.

...Which would be the stupidest decision in the history of music. I sincerely hope this never happens.

Look, I saw the current lineup, and they definitely SOUND great, and the show was very fun. But it was just awkward, and everyone there seemed to know it and feel it. They're the world's greatest Thin Lizzy tribute band, no doubt. But it's not the real band, end of story. If the guys want to record together under a different, Thin Lizzy-related name (ie: Black Rose), and do an album of that style but not try to pass it off as TL, I'm OK with that, especially if they get more previous members involved. But doing it under the name is just flat-out disrespectful to Phil Lynott's legacy, not to mention kind of ill-advised, as I have my doubts as to the songwriting potential of any of these guys without someone like Phil guiding them.

You have a point about BLS, they definitely don't belong on a bill with Priest, but the reunited Thin Lizzy actually does sound really good from what I've seen on Youtube. Ricky Warwick sounds amazingly like Phil.

I have no idea how, but I'm going one of these no matter what. San Bernandino is on a Saturday, but is a solid drive from LA. The Gibson Ampitheater is only ten miles from my future campus, but is on a Tuesday. Hmm...

Why the hell are Priest playing in Oracle Arena?! They may be my favorite band ever, but even I'm sensible enough to know that there's no way in hell they'll fill it up to a decent capacity. Especially considering that the other venues on this leg are ampitheaters that they'll do (and have done) well enough in. They did pretty good at Shoreline with a stacked as hell lineup (Metal Masters 2008), and crappy at Concord with an equally popular co-headliner (2009's British Steel tour). There is simply no way that they'll fill up Oracle Arena with Thin Lizzy, a band that was never very popular to begin with, and BLS, which goes for a way different demographic of metalhead.

Maiden33
05-24-2011, 10:25 PM
Yeah, I was actually about to make a comment myself about the venue size being a bit lofty. I saw the Metal Masters Tour (Priest, Sabbath, Motorhead, Testament) at an amphitheater with 17,000~ capacity, and it wasn't that full, and this was even when Priest did the free lawn tickets if you bought Nostradamus promo. I don't see how in the hell they think they're going to fill 20,000-capacity arenas with this lineup now.

None of these three sound like each other at all. So who do you suggest they get to replace Thin Lizzy? Odds are it's just gonna be another band that doesn't fit right anyways. Priest and BLS don't even fit together if you're gonna compare their musical sound and fanbases.

Thin Lizzy is great, even with this revamped line up. I think they are a bad fit for this tour. They simply are not heavy enough to play with Priest and BLS on the same bill.

I would like to see Priest pass the torch off by introducing some of the newer metal bands to the masses. BLS is a solid support act so why not give the opening slot to a up and coming band or a metal band who could use the exposure.

Black Tide?
Amon Amarth?
Skeletonwitch?
Gojira?
God Forbid?

Hopefully on the second leg BLS is replaced by Mastodon or Down.

I can't agree with that. Priest and Thin Lizzy are two of the first bands to employ the twin lead-guitar harmony sound. Even without Phil, it's a pretty cool thing for Priest to bring along a classic band like Lizzy with a band like BLS. I'd rather have variety on a tour lineup and I think this lineup does that.

Also, Black Tide or God Forbid....no thanks. Black Tide is going the wrong direction anyway and they somehow got the opening slot for Maiden in Florida.

Almost all Priest fans in the mainstream know them for their classic 70's and 80's songs., Not Painkiller.

Only 5 dates are on sale on Ticketraper so far.

Edit: For those dates that are listed, the prices are WAY higher than they should be, like 40 dollars for the cheapest tickets. The over-capacity venues weren't helping them to begin with, but they're screwing themselves if they charge so much for tickets. If they had gone for ampitheaters then they could have made money with cheap GA lawn tickets, but there's no way this tour is gonna do too well given the venues, the lineup, and the prices.

For the high end seats, yes, the price isn't bad at all. However, the majority of people that will go to these concerts aren't hardcore fans, they're mostly folks who know them for their few hits in the 80s. They aren't going to want to pay more than 20 or 30 dollars for a ticket. For the guys like us who frequent message boards just talking about heavy metal, we're gonna be at these shows no matter what price it is.

Not really. I've seen older people at shows that don't look like metalheads in the expensive area not knowing any songs. For most people that age group, they just want a good view. Besides, they could charge whoever much they want, I won't be that far away.

Well at least Concord has an open pit... don't have to worry about trying to get ridiculously priced seats like at Shoreline. Shouldn't be more than a hundred bucks.

Just ordered my tickets for this show.

$55 bucks per ticket after the charges. That's not too bad at all.

Any more dates to come? Or is this it?

I'm assuming this is it.

For those wondering who will go on first, the venue page for the show in Rochester has BLS before Thin Lizzy.

So it looks like the actual real band is being billed over the tribute band.

Tribute band or no, Thin Lizzy is a lot better than BLS, and certainly deserve to play over them.

I hope Priest rescheduled the NJ date for early 2012 and hit some more portions of the East Coast during that time.

Black Label Society is closer to a live-action Guitar Hero contest than they are an "actual, real band".

AWWWWWWWWWW fuck! No more Gibson Amphitheater date?!

Don't worry too much, there's inconsistent info between Thin Lizzy and Priest's websites. TL has Oakland (which was old info btw) while Priest has Concord, not to mention that according to Ticketmaster, this tour is gonna be in Chula Vista instead of San Diego on the 19th. Considering they've been selling tickets for Chula Vista for weeks now, I don't think they can get out of it now.

Also I NEED that Gibson Amphitheater date, San Bernandino is 80 fucking miles from school for me!

Edit: Just checked TL's website, it has Concord instead of Oakland, and doesn't have any asterisks like that post had on some dates. It also has Gibson Amphitheater again!! I am also a royal dumbass, as I now know that Chula Vista is near San Diego. Derp.

The thing that pisses me off is that for the Chicago date they are playing at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino which makes it 21+ and over.

WHICH MEANS I CANT GO!!!

Makes no sense on why they would put it at a age restricting venue. Sure from what I heard its a amazing venue but still!

Yeah tickets haven't gone on sale (or even announced a date) for the bay area show, hoping it doesn't fall through.

This tour has a second European leg in 2012.

I saw Priest at Graspop in June though, and they were great! Hopefully they'll stop by Moscow in February/March since there's a rumor going around they'll be in Minsk on the 1st of March.

I saw them at Sweden Rock in June and High Voltage in July. Two more superb performances. Way better than the last tour. Can't wait for them to finally play a proper headlining show in London before this tour finishes.

Although, if they don't, I wont care that much seeing as whenever they do select shows in the future, London is almost guaranteed to get one :D
