This news really isn't very surprising. A re-run of the Maiden England tour was always planned right from when they did the Early Days tour. In fact, they've done every tour they said they'd do then, in the order they said they'd do them.

I hate to boast but I was at that show. It was recorded over two nights at the Birmingham N.E.C. There were photocopied sheets everywhere saying if you watch the show you will be recorded on video. Not that you ever see me on the finished product.
You can however find me on JP's Live At London DVD. If you look very carefully..............
I actually think this tour was the absolute peak for IM. I saw them at the Birmingham Odeon on the SIT tour in '86, then Donington on the SSOASS tour where they announced the dates this video was recorded from. These dates saw them shake up the setlist a bit with the results you see on tape. The next album was substandard, Fear Of The Dark was a little better, then Bruce left. By the time he came back they stopped had stopped playing some of the more obscure oldies (although the GMEUID tour was pretty cool) & now he struggles to hit the high notes some of these songs demand.

Most of them are really cheap and most are easy to get to also. I am going to like six over the next two weeks though.

I'm living with my Aunt and Uncle, who moved into the house my parents and I used to live in. The recession has hit the idrinkwine732 family pretty hard.

I guess the "easy to get to" it what really explains it. Due to my location, I'll be lucky to got to 6 shows in a span of 3-4 months. Small "hole in the wall" shows included.

They haven't come to my area since 1988 and I've seen them 10 times. It's not like your situation in Buffalo is that bad compared to manky's where they only do Denver, Chicago, and Texas. You know they'll play Toronto and that's only a 2 hour drive from Buffalo. I drove over two hours just to get to the airport to go to the Florida shows a week ago.

Just sayin.

That's cool you're able to do that whenever Maiden comes around. I'm not sure how a 21 year old guy has the money to do that though because I sure as hell didn't when I was that age:confused:

I will more than likely travel to see them since this will be a tour for my favorite Maiden album. It's just as you get older other things like work, family and paying the bills takes money away from traveling to see shows.

It just fustrates me that Maiden thinks their fans have nothing better to do than travel long distances to see them. They need to make a better effort in hitting more places on every tour. Only doing two US dates on this past leg was complete bullshit.

IrritatedTrout
04-28-2011, 05:41 AM
I'm not blaming you for not going as I understand other things take priority. I'm just saying that it's unfair to expect Maiden to play every B market every time they come around. Buffalo has got to be the definition of a B market too, smaller city only 2 hours away from a major market. Virginia Beach area is in the same boat. The Norfolk/Va Beach area probably has a lot higher population than Buffalo and is a good 3 and half hours from DC but we are just a shitty area as far as music is concerned so nobody comes here.

As far as the money thing goes, I really do have a good habit of saving up a lot of money in advance and I'm extremely frugal (cheap) when I travel. Also, I sell my own blood plasma and put the money in a savings account.

Butcher of Birth

I wanna care, but I know they aren't coming to Minnesota, so I won't be able to see them.

Then you travel, easy... Go to Chicago... Jeremysaal on the boards is from your parts and makes it to a bunch of shows! So suck it up and hit the road jack!

This news really isn't very surprising. A re-run of the Maiden England tour was always planned right from when they did the Early Days tour. In fact, they've done every tour they said they'd do then, in the order they said they'd do them.

Yeah they were scheduled do to Maiden England in 2008 but Somewhere Back In Time was such a HUGE success for them they stuck with that one, and Rod said they pushed back the next tour to 2012 to accommodate the next album tour (The Final Frontier).

IDK when tickets go on sale, but you'll have plenty of time after that to buy a plane ticket/save for gas.

This, or just don't go to Rite of Darkness lol

I actually think this tour was the absolute peak for IM... now he struggles to hit the high notes some of these songs demand.

Really? Because I think Bruce sounds a lot better now than then. Sure he might strain a bit, but overall his breathing is more controlled and his isn't "average" throughout the rest of the set. This past tour was INSANE! The Talisman? Hit every note, it was amazing.

It's not about them coming to Buffalo it's about giving the fans a better chance to see them. Sorry, only two dates for the US on this leg isn't gonna cut it and no fan who was denied the chance to see them because of that should let them slide on it, no matter how great they are. Bruce flies the band and crew from show to show and there's just no way they don't have a say in where they perform. It's just lazy if you ask me.

Saying Buffalo is a B market is actually generous at this point. If there's a such thing as a C market then that's what we are now. We can't even get Rush or Ozzy to play here anymore:mad:

It's sad because when I first started attending shows in the early 90s it wasn't a question of if a band was coming here, it was a question of when once a tour was announced. But that's changed over the last five or six years. So I guess I never got use to the travel idea since I got so use to bands coming here. I've traveled before and will do it again for shows, it just happening too much for my liking in recent times.

Well the USA did get a full 27 date tour just last Summer? Granted it lacked 4 new songs, but still it was a strong set; including Brave New World.

I mean you can't complain, you can get shows in Toronto which isn't far at all, and Montreal and NYC are about equal in distance, so you can go to either of those. What's your fuss?

Maidenmagic

The idea of a Maiden England tour isn't exactly new, since the DVD was supposed to come out in November 2008. It seems like every four years they'll do a retrospective tour to coincide with the release of a new The History of Iron Maiden DVD. But with that being said, do you know this has been confirmed? It's been on my mind a lot lately, since A. I really want to see Maiden again and 2. What they would play. They already did some of "seventh son" on the "somewhere back in time tour" and they are playing "the evil that men do" on this current tour. They should play the 88 setlist or play "seventh son" in its entirety. Bruce had said that they would probably do a greatest hits tour next but It will probably be Maiden england.

I know, I did travel to see them last year. My main fuss is the extra money it costs to travel to shows. Sometimes you just can't afford to go out of town for many of them. Taking time off of work plays a factor in weather I can do it or not to. If I start taking off too much they could decide to fire me.

Toronto, if you count the waiting at the border crap is about two hours or so to get there. Which isn't too bad i've been up there for a number of shows before. Montreal and NYC are both about six to seven hour drives, so it's not like I can just hop in my car and i'm there.

When I saw Maiden in 2000, some people tried to start a pit and Bruce bitched them out for it and 99% of the audience cheered him on. Maiden is definitely not a band to mosh to and most fans don't like it either.

...I'm getting older. I don't know, I'm just sort of burned out on Maiden in a sense. I will always love them, but I guess I'm just burned out on the experience of seeing them and putting up with some of the logistics that come with it. Whenever they eventually tour here again, as long as it's in the summer and I have the option, I'll probably just buy lawn tickets and save the money and the hassle.

I can understand where you're coming from. Me, I feel I need to see them as many times as possible (within sane reason) before they retire; I see it as I was a fool when I missed them in 2003, and 2005. Word is that Nicko said at one of his clinics that it won't be a Seventh Son tour this year.

But there will be a tour, right? Then what is the theme?

I except it to begin in May or June, like the last two American tours. They mostly play ampitheatres and most of them open their season at the end of April.

And yes, like so many others, I was very dissapointed when no new info was presented.

That being said, this should be announced in February or March.

IrritatedTrout
11-28-2011, 05:21 AM
Apparently Nick's been saying that they are definitely going to play Japan because of the cancellations last tour. I don;t know what the theme will be but it may be another TFF theme. Perhaps they're bringing the proper album tour to Japan and America. A lot of their usual Euro festivals have been announcing their headliners already so maybe they won't be doing a Euro leg.

More Final Frontier would be nice, considering I've only heard El Dorado live. But I think they said that the shows in England would be the last TFF shows.

I know in 2010 Bruce had said that after TFF tour there would be a greatest hits tour but that might have changed.

I almost got excited for this, until I realized that they probably aren't coming to Florida again next year. I was happy enough when they came to Tampa after not having been there for over 20 years. I totally forgot about them only playing El Dorado on their last U.S. tour though. I guess that makes the Florida shows the only two in the U.S. where they played the five or so TFF songs.

You are correct, with the exception of El dorado. That was played on the summer 2010 tour.

If they do a different setlist than the last ter I will go if they come to Minnesota, which is unlikely, but I'm not gonna travel for them again so soon. Saw the Illinois show in 2010 so at least they're off the bucket list.

They will definetely do a different setlist.

I hope they actually try to really diversify the setlist with classics and newer stuff. It's amazing when you think about how many songs they have left out over the years.

As long as they keep Number of the Beast and The Wicker Man in, I'm good. :P

Same. I get butterflies in my stomach when it's bumped. Then I read it, and that feeling just turns into diarrhea.

Hopefully this doesn't interfere with Van Halen. I would much rather see Maiden again than Van Halen once. And yes, unless there's new info, please try to refrain posting in this thread. I still think info will be released in February or March.

No, I just didn't want the Maiden show to be close to the Van Halen show. I didn't want to buy a ticket to Van Halen and then find out Maiden is playing in a reachable area. I would be mad. They should both be touting in the spring or summer.

You get excited to find out about Maiden playing the same 12 places they always do in NA?

They did 16 shows in the states last year plus nine shows in Canada.
