I saw Death Angel last night in Santa Clara at the Avalon and a promoter came up to announce some shows for the year. One of them was Saxon on October 1, 2011.

The south bay is way to random of a place to do a one-off, so I'm gonna say that Saxon are gonna FINALLY do a U.S. tour for the first time in many years.

EDIT: Unlike that Diamond Head tour, I can't find anything about this on the web, so I guess they're still plotting out dates at the moment.

EDIT AGAIN: I just got a Facebook invite for the event at the Avalon. There were no touring openers listed, only local openers.

September 29th, 2011 - Last Day Saloon, Santa Rosa CA
October 1st, 2011 - The Avalon Nightclub - Santa Clara CA
October 13th, 2011 - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York CA

HELL FUCKING YES.

Saw Saxon in NYC in May of 2009. Easily one of the best shows I've ever been to. REALLY looking forward to getting the chance to see them again.

I'll be seeing them in June I think, by virtue of there's no one else on at the same time. They're meant to be doing the whole Denim And Leather album.

They played in London last night, on their regular tour, but I didn't go.

I wonder if they'll make it a Denim And Leather anniversary tour, or stick with the standard set for the new album.

This is what they played on 23-04-11 in London. UK setlists are generally skewed in favour of the '80's material but we still got 4 from the new cd & 2 each from the last 2 -

Hammer of the Gods
Heavy Metal Thunder
Never Surrender
Motorcycle Man
Back in 79
I've Got to Rock (To Stay Alive)
Dallas 1 PM
Call to Arms
Atila the Hun
Demon Sweeney Todd
Battalions of Steel
And the Bands Played On
Man and Machine
The Eagle Has Landed
Play It Loud
When Doomsday Comes
To Hell and Back Again
Denim and Leather
Princess of the Night
Encore1:
Crusader
747 (Strangers in the Night)
Encore 2:
Strong Arm of the Law
Wheels of Steel

I'm not sure of Saxon's status in the states, but i'm guessing it's similar to the uk where unlike in europe no one really gives a damn about anything post 1985. The band tailor the setlists accordingly..........
They have however recently played Wheels Of Steel, Strong Arm Of The law & Denim And Leather in their entireity(?) so I guess anything is possible for you guys staeside.....

This is what they played in NYC in 2009. And yes, I was pretty upset about the complete lack of anything post-Crusader aside from the newest album... as I believe Lionheart is their best work.

01.Battalions of Steel
02.Heavy Metal Thunder
03.Demon Sweeney Todd
04.Strong Arm of the law
05.Power and the Glory
06.The letter
07.Valley of the Kings
08.The Eagle Has landed
09.And the Bands Played On
10.Hellcat
11.Dallas 1PM
12.20,000 Feet
13.Wheels of Steel
Encore 1:
14.Live to Rock
15.Motorcycle Man
16.Crusader
Encore 2:
17.Never Surrender
18.747 (Strangers in the Night)
19.Denim and Leather
20.Princess of the Night

They didn't used to do that in the UK. The Lionheart tour setlist was awesome. Mostly because it contained a lot of Lionheart tracks ;) I actually find they care about only hearing the early material in Europe than in the UK.

Don't think they've done Denim And Leather yet have they? Premier of that is supposed to be Sweden Rock in June.

Canadian Prog/Power band BOREALIS is going to be direct support on all of these shows. Best news I've heard in a LONG time.

Well they only have two albums. One is self-released from 2008 or 2009, and the other is from this year, entitled "Fall From Grace". It's leaps and bounds ahead of the debut both in material and sound quality/production, and I assume their set will be based around the new record. GREAT album.

Damn, no dates around me.... I'd definitely go and see Saxon if they were only playing a little closer. The NYC show is on my birthday, though

I don't really agree, I actually think the debut is superior. The main advantage the new record has is better production. Either way, both are fantastic and were among the best albums of the year.

Unfortunately I won't be able to catch this tour because the Toronto show is 19+. I've seen Borealis 4 times, but I don't think they've played a show since the new album was released. It'll be a major disappointment if they don't play any songs from the debut in the future.
