;) Wondering what kind of a chance Newsted, McGovney or Truijillo stand against Burton.

Bring on the debate!

I voted Cliff mainly for his songwriting contributions. To be honest, this thread is kinda pointless, because most people are going to vote for Cliff.

Read post above.

Still want to see whether anybody likes Trujillo or Newsted over him.

Cliff.

He brought more to the band musically. While Newstead and Trujillo are both good players they didn't have as great of an impact on the material they've done with Metallica as Cliff did.

I just wonder what Metallica would be like now if Cliff hadn't died? How their sound would have progressed?

I've never heard any of their songs, so I voted for the first guy on the ballot.

So let me get this straight, you regularly post on a metal forum, yet you have never heard a Metallica song before...

Rob is just as good technique wise, without a doubt. I believe he could potentially write some stuff that could really push metallica forward, like his skills on spanish guitar are incredible, and he has some powerful funk on bass too. The only thing is, I would imagine he feels very overwhelmed with Metallica, specifically James and Lars. No musician will ever crack what those two have developed since Cliffs death, no matter how good they are.

Cliff of course but Jason was good too and provided good backing vocals

Is this a joke?
Cliff is the only answer.
Jason isn't bad, but c'mon.
And Robert is just a disappointment.

I think it IS a joke.

Jason was pretty awesome though. I wish they hadn't been such dicks to him, because Trujillo's a turd. Newsted's live performances, especially early on were simply awesome. Exhibit A (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtaxKNaEAns)

Easily Cliff, though I think that Jason was fuckin' awesome (I wasn't convinced until live DVDs), and Trujilo has done a decent job so far. As good as he can do in a style where the bass really takes a backseat for the most part.

If Suicidal wasn't taking 10 years to put out a new album and they didn't have a killer bassist already, he would be better with them. Not money wise of course

Why don't you mention Dave Ellefson and Frank Bello who played with them at that Big 4 show, since you put McGovney up there.
