Honestly I care so little about some of those bands/subgenres that I wasn't even paying attention. But honestly the rate of stupidity on this board has skyrocketed so much that half of that shit would probably be someone's serious nominations.

Power Metal: (Modern) The Book Of Heavy Metal - Dream Evil
(Classic) Somewhere Far Beyond - Blind Guardian/Holy Diver - Dio

No way does Dio qualify as power metal to me. That's traditional metal if it has ever been recorded in my eyes.

The Book of Heavy Metal is such a weird pick to me. I've never thought, that even at their best, Dream Evil was more than at best, a 2nd-tier band, and The Book of Heavy Metal is my 3rd favorite of their 5 albums.

I would consider Dio a major influence on Power Metal, and as such consider Holy Diver a definititve album in that style.

Book Of Heavy Metal is my favorite Dream Evil record. I would rate them quite high within power metal as a style of music. Please not I amen't a big power metal fan to begin with, I am merely rating what I like out of that style.

Prog Metal: Fates Warning: Parallels

Broke my heart to not include this myself. But like half of my dozen all-time favorites are under the Prog Metal bracket, so I have to get pretty damn choosy.

I won't argue that Dio isn't a huge influence on the Power Metal genre, but I don't consider any of his work to be power metal. It's the same deal with Maiden, and a few other bands like them. It was essential stuff in the formation of the genre, but I don't think there was any true power metal prior to around 1985 and Helloween's Walls of Jericho, and the genre didn't really blossom for about 5 years more after that.

Honestly EVERY song on that album is a "classic" to me. But Eleventh Hour, Point of View, and Leave the Past Behind are my favorites. Honestly love all 8 of them though. One of only maybe ten records ever made where I can say that.

I am of the personal opinion that the greatest death metal album ever released is without a doubt Bloodbath - Resurrection Through Carnage. There is nothing I feel could be improved upon with this album. The Band name, Album name, Album Artwork, Song names, Lyrics, musicianship, atmosphere, etc... Just perfect. And yes I realize they likely borrowed riffs of styling of some of the earlier pioneers like Entombed, Grave, Dismember, and Carnage.... but frankly the entire presentation just really came together for this album. 10/10 love it, and will always love it. I consider it the best Death Metal album.

https://www.cmdistro.de/images/products/large/54336.jpg

And that doesn't mean I dont have love for Death, Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, Carcass, Cryptopsy, Entombed, Grave, Dismember, and Carnage, Autopsy, Gorguts, Decide, Decapitated, and any others that slip my mind at the moment.... But for me personally- Resurrection Though Carnage is THE Definitive Album of Death Metal.

:rocker: Absolutely agree with this! I'd pay anything for a US tour that came anywhere remotely close to me.

Absolutely! The production on this album is timeless... I'd say Akerfeldt's vocals on this album are the best he has done on any released album. Opeth is great too, but this album is just a masterpiece.

No-Wave: Swans - Children of God

Children of God is amazing and definitely my favorite Swans record but tbh I think they had moved past no-wave by then. Cop for sure, though.

To me it was a coin-flip between Children of God and Cop. The reason I consider Children of God still a no-wave record is that as a movement no-wave was a rejection of the status quo and Children of God was a rejection of that. It's splitting hairs of course.
