Crack the Skye would have been amazing if it had the heaviness of the first two, but without that it just sounded weak. Blood Mountain pt. 2 would be sweet.

Blood Mountain is my favorite so I'm ok with this.

I know you get ad revenue from every hit your site gets, but you don't have to post a thread with just a link for every other update one the site...

More of a leviathan fan, but I trust Mastodons judgement. Blood Mountain was a strong effort, and the concept already sounds appealing.

Same. The prog to heavy ratio was perfect.

Remission-Leviathan-Blood Mountain was a natural progression, regardless of how you rank them. Crack the Skye just went flying off the rails, for better or worse (worse, in my opinion). If this dials it back it could be a masterpiece.

I think Crack the Skye was just part of the progression too.

If it was, it skipped a few steps.

but wasn't CTS a culmination of their progression from each album? Leviathian was proggier than Remission, Blood Mountain was proggier than Leviathian....

I'm with Brad, but on the good side of things. I loved Crack the Skye, but *puts on nerd cap* the progressiveness growth was exponential, not constant.
