View Full Version : Children Of Bodom/Devin Townsend US Tour In July

MPF
02-10-2011, 12:10 AM
In speaking of the Amon Amarth tour coming to America pretty soon. So is this tour.

From the same source as where I found out about Amon Amarth, Children Of Bodom will be bringing Devin Townsend on a US tour. Which Im happy to know will be hitting Minnesota *FUCKING FINALLY* in July.

No dates are confirmed, but it will be pretty much the whole month of July, give or takes weeks in June or August.

Any die hard Metal fan knows it should be Devin Townsend headlining over Children Of Bodom, but fuck it, I gotta see my hero live.

When ever Bodom deserves a higher spot...they don't get it. When they don't need to headline. They do. I don't get it

either way, would be cool to check out. If bodom plays more than the same 6 songs:eyes:
would be really kickass to see Townsend.
To bad i couldn't see him with Strapping Young Lad..

Damn. I was really hoping for a Devin Townsend headlining tour this year. Not really a great combination of bands if you ask me, plus most people there probly won't appreciate the Dev.

Agreed. A lot of the Children of Bodom fans know nothing about metal (or good music for that matter), so they probably won't care for him. I'll definitely go to this tour though. I'm glad The Black Dahlia Murder isn't opening for them for a third time. :hecho:

I think Bodom is more well known than Devin Townsend so it makes sense Bodom would headline.

Damn, a perfectly good Devin Townsend tour ruined by one of the most overrated bands in metal.

If there's a local date, I'll be there :D Would love to see both again. No complaints here about Bodom headlining over Devin - while it's true that anything Devin has done absolutely smokes new Bodom, CoB are one of my favorite bands. It's true that a lot of the newer fans won't appreciate Dev, but any show where I can see two great bands together is a plus for me

The new COB album will probably be average at best, but I haven't seen them live since 2006, and the 2 times i've seen them, they put on a kick ass live show. If it hits up Toronto i'll go.

It would be better if Devin was headlining (though it wouldn't make sense) but I still definetely want to see this.

I'd watch like 5 Bodom songs then leave. The crowd would be the worse part, lots of "tough guys" are too brutal for Devin.

I've seen Bodom twice and saw about as many tough guys as any other metal show I've been to. It was mainly just teenagers and metalheads in their 20s. But we do live on opposite sides of the country, so your crowds could be very different for all I know.

I'm talking about them feeling too cool for Devy in particular with his nerdy pop sounding music. On another note, I heard Bodom fans even gave shit to Black Dahlia on that last tour.

I would imagine that he'll stick to his heavier material for this tour, especially since Deconstruction is supposedly going to be the heaviest thing he's ever done.

Damn... I'll be interested in this show depending on ticket price/Bodom's setlist. I only paid $18 to see Devin play an hour and a half set to a sold-out, hometown crowd.

I highly doubt he'll get a negative reaction here but I'll be curious to hear what crowds are like in other cities. Still waiting for Deconstruction and Ghost!

What the hell is it with you and hating technical metal? And why does it matter to you? I hate Deathcore, you don't see me saying the genre needs to be killed off.

I'm sorry, nobody informed me that every band discussed on this forum, no matter how derivative it sounds to one listener, is subject to a mandatory pro-worshipping basis of comment that matches the opinions of the fanatics.

First off guy, Of the 4 bands, mentioned I'm only a fanatic and worshiper of Devin Townsend.

Next off, you don't have to like the bands, like I said I hate Deathcore, but live and let live, I choose not to talk about it often, if at all. There's enough people who bitch and moan about bands, I don't need to be one of them. And yes, you can take what I'm saying as bitching and moaning, so go ahead and point that out if you must.

Your last point, while I can see your opinion, but its just that, an opinion. Obscura is not just technical Wankery. There is substance to their style when has Children of Bodom been technical Wankery besides Alexi doing some solos he's been repeating since Hatebreeder? How the flying fuck is Septic Flesh Technical Wankery in any sense of the phrase.

Again it's ok to have an opinion, hell that's what the internet is for. But come on man. Why even make reference to something you don't like. You did it in the Symphony X thread as well. It's just annoying man Live and let live.

Any New Yorkers no if Bodom sells out NYC?

Well they're bigger now than ever, but I don't know. Best Buy holds about 2100, I think, and I don't think the opening bands are going to bring in that big of a crowd (with the exception of Devy). They headlined Hammerstein last time they did NYC, but that was also with Testament, Black Dahlia, and BTBAM on the bill. But the tour after that they played Starland, which is roughly the same capacity as Best Buy. I'd say they have a decent/good chance of selling it out. I'm going to the venue twice in the next couple of weeks, so I'll see if I could buy my ticket in advance there, to avoid Ticketmaster fees and all that fun shit.

Well they're bigger now than ever, but I don't know. Best Buy holds about 2100, I think, and I don't think the opening bands are going to bring in that big of a crowd (with the exception of Devy). do you actually avoid fees from buying it at the venue itself? I'm planning on going to Amon Amarth at BB and would like to avoid the shit fees

3/4 amazing bands opening for Children of Bodom. OH YEAH!

Like I mentioned before I'll just be hanging out around the merch tables during COB. The day after 4th of July is my new favorite one time only holiday!

sometimes veneus add a small printing fee but for the most part it feels so much better not having to pay ticketmaster fees

Sort of off topic... do you need a passport to drive to/from Mexico or Canada?

Canada is picky about letting people with minor criminal records in also (as is their right)

Yup. You pay the face value of the ticket. Just be aware that the ticket is like 5 bucks more on the day of the show.

I know a lot of people have said yes, but I think it might depend on the venue. When I went to Dimmu borgir in 2007, tickets were the same amount at the door as they were when I paid for them via Ticketmaster with all the fees. Now that could be because, like someone else said, tickets are more on the day of the show, but it was just too coincidental that they were the same amount.

I know for sure that, at least in Toronto, Ticketmaster isn't the only vendor that places fees on their tickets. Rotate This and Enter the Vault both place fees on tickets for shows that they're selling for the same events, and they usually end up being the same price in the end.

I'm just hoping Septicflesh doesn't ignore the Sumerian Daemons album when they make the set, because that album is a masterpiece. But I feel like their set is going to be only songs from the new album and Communion. Oh well, no complaints though. Obscura's set will be good no matter what, same goes for Dev, but I'm really interested to see what Devin's set looks like on this tour.

It will definetly be the weirdest concept album of 2011

According to a recent interview with Townsend, the album is a concept album which focuses around a man who goes to hell and meets the devil. The devil eventually promises to show him the secrets of the universe and presents a cheeseburger to him. However, being a vegetarian, the man cannot eat the cheeseburger, rendering his journey pointless. The album is humorous and chaotic in nature, which is a radical departure from Townsend's more recent work.

Daaamn. I got my hopes up when looking at ticket prices for some of the American shows (some of them under $25 including fees!). The Vancouver show is the most expensive date on the whole tour at nearly $40. Assuming it's because Devin is just as big as a draw here as Bodom, if not moreso. Still... Can't pass up that lineup.

Just curious, for other cities, what size venues is this tour hitting? The Van show is at the Commodore Ballroom, which can hold about 1,000 people.

Jaxx in Springfield, VA is 300 maybe 400 capacity. Which probably explains the back to back nights, since I'm absolutely certain at least one of the nights will sell out.

No interest in the inevitably awful Children of Boredom set or Devin's set unless he sticks to heavy stuff. If he does focus on his heavy material, I might go, but tickets are relatively expensive and the venue sucks.

I'm sure there will be a heavy dose of Deconstruction in the set, so Devin will bring the heavy. At least I hope so. There's a lot of guest appearances so I'm not sure how that would work live.

They were boring for the 3 songs I saw them with Lamb of God, but that was the tour Alexi got hurt on, and the day he left, but I figured it was his injury that made em boring, oh well I at least got to see one good song of theirs live, Silent Night, Bodom Night.
