With exception to that Rush-esque break in Isle of Avalon and the latter half of Starblind, I'd probably agree. The more exposure I have to the album, it seems like a less creative effort.

Holy crap you have no idea what "association" means, do you?

If someone listens to a band, and you say "if you like that style [doom metal in this case] listen to this band", then by association you are comparing the two bands. Basic English structure.

Now, you were always on a winner recommending MDB anyway because they're awesome at all they do, but nevertheless, to follow a post about Electric Wizard with a recommendation of MDB associates MDB stylistically with EW, and that's simply incorrect.

On topic, Russian Dude (sorry, that's how I remember who you are ;)) if you like these bands, listen to these others:

Electric Wizard: Blood Ceremony

My Dying Bride: Swallow The Sun, Katatonia, Paradise Lost

Early Sabbath: sHeavy, Count Raven, Candlemass

And generally consider: Cathedral, Pentagram, Reverend Bizarre, Atolah, Nomad Son, Mortalicum, Memory Driven, Isole, Ereb Altar, The 11th Hour, World Below, Semlah...

Fuck it, just read all of these and choose which you like the sound of: http://www.jukeboxmetal.com/category/genres/doom/

You're dead to me.

It's boring, even by generic Maiden standards (in which there is rather a lot of competition). Not bad, just dull.

At Maiden's age if you're not producing something different then making new music is worthless.

I'll voice opinion on 'When The Wild Wind Blows' tomorrow when I listen to it. Frankly, by the time it arrived I was so bored that passing judgment on something 11 minutes long at that point would just be unfair, so I hit 'stop'.

And don't forget in all of this that I've been a Maiden fan for as long as I've been a metal fan. But it doesn't matter how fanatical you are about a band, there's no excusing laziness. Sadly fandom - general comment - brings short-sightedness by default.

But this band continues to evolve.

They don't hesitate to tread new ground. They might not be producing something new and different for the grander scheme of music, but they're producing something new and different for Iron Maiden.

Satellite 15 has an almost industrial quality to it, which is certainly a new sound for Maiden.

We also get classic Maiden rock, the proggier side of their sound we became accustomed to over their past three albums, some almost funky alternative metal (in "The Man Who Would be King), etc.

We didn't get such variety on some of their older albums.

You might have responded to your own statement a bit here, because in my opinion, The Final Frontier is a stellar album. However, I don't necessarily agree that the album is a broad step in experimentation or something new at all. I think Iron Maiden are incapable of making an album that will find its way out of my top 15, because they've just got it together so well. It started out as my number 2, but dropped to 9 by year's end.

Huh... sounds like a Blaze-era track...

And not a very good one.

Everyone who put this in their top 10 albums of 2010 is either crazy or a total fan-nerd. I don't dislike any track on it, it's just all so obvious and bland. If a Maiden tribute band decided to write original songs in Maiden's style, this is what they'd write.

I'm so disappointed with it I gave it to someone else. It doesn't deserve the name Mercenary. Can you say "sell out"?

I got a bad feeling when I heard "The Follower" but resolved to give the full album a chance. I tried it twice and couldn't get through it either time. Terrible.

This is not a Dr. Dre track. Next Episode was a Dre track. What's the Difference was a Dr. Dre track. Gin & Juice was a Dr. Dre track.

Dr. Dre's tracks were modern day funk. This is not Dre bringing the G-Funk, this is Dre trying to make another "Love The Way You Lie." And it fucking sucks. Hard.

What the fuck did you expect? He hasn't made a record in 12 years. Also, you do realize that he's no longer the old school Chronic smokin' G-Funk NWA mc/producer that he once was....

Detox will be a flop. Dres all buffed up and Popped out now, the 90s are over, Sadly :(

By the way, Fun little fact:
Bleach By Nirvana is one of Dres all time favorite albums. Its one of a few albums from his Warehouse of record collections that he hasn't sold or given away. He also said in an interview that he use to play the album as motivation when hes working out at the gym and stuff

I can just mentally image Dr. Dre blasting Nirvana
