Pretty good. Despite what Russell has previously said, it's FAR less aggressive than the last album. I therefore like it less.

They're still quite good.

Only if "quite good" means falling to the trap of getting popular and making the same record twice. 'Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood' was a re-tread of 'Rock the Rebel/Metal the Devil', and so was the new one.

They've lost all of their vitality.

On first listen, it's not bad. A little disappointing because of the large rehash factor. I've heard most of those riffs, lyrics, song structures and solos from them before. Unoriginal but most PM fans will dig it.

If a miserable, cynical Englishman such as yourself (:finger:) can post a retort like the one you did and the only thing you claim to dislike is hot fudge sundaes, then I'll take that as incontrovertible proof that Clutch rules.

Because that's how logic works. :eyes:

Blackwater Park seriously changed my life. I remember the weekend I bought it like it was a couple days ago, and it was more than two years ago now. The night I bought it was actually the first time I ever got drunk off Jager ;)

But anyways at the time I was having some pretty upsetting relationship issues, and I remember just listening to it and it speaking to me so much it was ridiculous. They were coming with Enslaved a month or two later so I decided to try to pick up stuff by both bands. I absolutely fell in love with Opeth. Watershed and Vertebrae by Enslaved are basically the soundtrack to the end of my sophomore year of high school.

And as for the concert, that changed my life as well. It's undoubtedly the best show I've ever been to. I was new to both bands at the time, but now they're two of my favorite bands.

Yeah, Opeth was really, really life-changing for me too. I remember Junior year of high school, I was driving my car to school which happened to have Sirius Radio in it, and I was listening to "Hard Attack" at the time, the only decent metal station. There was a huge blizzard outside, and it was pitch black at 7:00 in the morning.

Suddenly, "Deliverance" played... and I was utterly transfixed. I couldn't turn off the radio; I ended up just sitting in my car in the parking lot for 10 minutes, listening in awe, especially the last 2 minutes of that song. It was unreal, and perfect in almost every way, much more so than the Lamb of God songs that I was into at the time.

From that day on, Opeth have been my favorite band. Sometimes I wish I could self-lobotomize myself in order to forget how much I love Opeth and experience "popping-my-Opeth-cherry" all over again

I didn't care for Opeth when I first heard them. It was back in 2005 when Ghost Revieries came out, I thought it was good but also boring at times. I got back into them recently and now I'm going to end up loving them like all other Opeth fans. And yes the last few minutes of Deliverance is amazing. Some of the best drumming I have heard.
