Here's the Official Statement:

Former EMPEROR frontman Ihsahn (real name: Vegard Sverre Tveitan) has contributed guest vocals to "Deconstruction" — the third in a series of albums from Canadian musician/producer Devin Townsend (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, STEVE VAI, LAMB OF GOD, DARKEST HOUR, GWAR) to be made available under THE DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT moniker.

Commented Ihsahn: "I have been a longtime fan of Devin and his work, and when he asked me to do some vocals for his upcoming 'Deconstruction' album, I said yes right away.

"Devin is one of those few uncompromising artists who goes anywhere with their music, wherever that takes them. Nothing but respect!"

Not related to this, but I can't wait to hear this on CD. Must've watched this video over 10 times already. Songs are beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vub3V8JBIyI

It's related. Ghost is going to be my other favorite album of 2011.

Devin just posted two words on his twitter that are basically the one thing I've been waiting to hear about Deconstruction.

"Thanks Mikael! :0"

All I have to say is:
HOLY SHIT DEVIN IHSAHN AND MIKAEL FUCKING AKERFELDT ON DEV'S NEW ALBUM!!!

He also thanked someone by the name of Tommy. Tommy Rogers, I'm guessing?

Yeah there were rumors about Mikael being on it before Ihsahn was announced, but I thought it was bullshit. It would be incredible to hear two of my favorite musicians on one track, I always wanted that on that Ayreon album but it never happened.

Honestly I wouldn't have ever guessed that Ihsahn was going to be on it until he announced it. Took me by suprise. Great choice, however!

This sounds amazing! I have never been more excited to hear an album in my life! I especially like the part around the 4 minute mark that is undeniably Joe Duplantier, gets me excited for more Gojira also.

With all these guest spots, you would think he's making a rap album

Usually, yes. I'm willing to make an exception in Devin's case.

Fair enough. I suppose if there's anyone who can do it properly it's him. And the fact that it's not just one person might be cool.

I'm actually surprised by the orchestral bits and silly song titles - I was under the impression that this would be his srs-business-extremely-technical-mindfuck. I'm definitely not complaining, though, because the YouTube clips sound outstanding.

I wonder if he has vocal pieces or is he only an instrumental guest? Is he going to be vocodered or not?

I feel like I'm gonna love this album.

My guess he is only doing vocals, considering how Ihsahn and Mikael are only doing vocals, but I could be wrong.

I'm also guessing it will be vocodered vocals, but I'd actually like to hear both vocodered and non-vocodered vocals from Paul if used in the right sense.

Hands down this will be the best Metal album made since Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath.

*unless it totally bombs, but I can't see that happening*

The thing is that Paul is a much better guitarist than he is singer, so I could see him doing some guitarwork on the album.

MPF
02-19-2011, 12:11 PM
That could also be said of Ihsahn, Mikael, or Joe D.

But you already have have Hevy Devy and Fredrik *well on one song anyways* playing guitar. THat's really all you need.

For the love of Ziltoid please let that be him. I was fortunate enough to see Novembers Doom on Labor Day in 2009 and have their setlist hanging up in my room.

That's awesome. Now I gotta find him on facebook and get on his ass to make another Subterranean Masquerade album he promised me back in 2009.
