Whitechapel's gonna headline. Sorry. I would kill to see Bloodbath headline, but that's not gonna happen.

Everyone seems to think Whitechapel are(where is your evidence they are?), but here's to hoping they don't.

Meh. I'd rather see the real Suffocation.

Suffocation for Summer Slaughter '11!

I'd rather have both of them on there actually, but Suffocation would be awesome, they are incredible live. Nothing wrong with Dying Fetus though, it'll be my 4th time seeing them haha

Clearly, I disagree.

coming from someone who nitpicks just about every band out there im not surprised on the other hand suffocation would be pretty sweet but i already saw them so im happy df is playing cause i havent seen them, and bloodbath would be amazing

I don't even think they're a possibility anymore. In a recent interview they said their American tour this summer would be the "All Stars" tour. After the Burial are on that tour as well so that probably eliminates them too.

Interesting.... I will go to that tour if there is an MA date. I really want to see After The Burial as well. Sumerian will have a band on there... The Faceless(again) perhaps?

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER
WHITECHAPEL
DARKEST HOUR
SIX FEET UNDER
DYING FETUS
AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK
OCEANO
FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE

Special half time show featuring POWERGLOVE (wat)

And they got the voting for the openers on their facebook.

About the lineup, I had my hopes up for Obscura and Misery Index. Ugh I knew Oceano would get on this -_- disappointing...

and EVERYONE VOTE FOR AUGURY TO OPEN THE SHOW

treghet
03-31-2011, 06:02 PM
Well fuck that. If Obscura was on it, I would be attending (even though I'm not that big of a fan), but now the ONLY band I care about on the lineup is Dying Fetus.

I don't really mind Whitechapel, but with Oceano, As Blood Runs Black, and Six Feet Under... just... wow. This tour has gone to utter shit. :wallbang:

EDIT: And what the fuck happened to 1349 or Skeletonwitch being on this?

What happened to Skeletonwitch :(

03-31-2011, 06:08 PM
THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER - sure, whatever, should be entertaining live.
WHITECHAPEL -
DARKEST HOUR - whatever
SIX FEET UNDER - aren't they one of the worst DM bands around today?
DYING FETUS - should be good, Killing on Adrenaline and Destroy the Opposition are killer records
AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK -
OCEANO -
FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE - nice!

Special half time show featuring POWERGLOVE

Some of those :lol:s can be interchanged with :mad:s fairly easily...

So, yeah, I'll probably skip this...

To all wondering about 1349 and Skeletonwitch (myself included) SS has this in their bio on their facebook:

Ash Avildsen (Summer Slaughter Founder) states: “We had a lot of great ideas for bands for the middle of the bill like Obscura, Spawn of Possession, 1349 and more. Unfortunately, none of them were available for the tour.

:(

treghet
03-31-2011, 06:17 PM
They replied to my post on FB.

Check the official press release we just announced in the bio section. We tried for 1349, Obscura, Spawn of Possession and Skeletonwitch but none were available. :(

Well, I feel better knowing they tried to get those bands.

EVERYBODY PUT REVOCATION AS NUMBER 1 ON THE SUMMER SLAUGHTER FACEBOOK WALL

sorry about the caps, but this is really important...

and put the most unpopular bands as your #2 and #3 picks so The Contortionist, Volumes, or Strctures don't get any extra votes

I'm going. Black Dahlia,Darkest Hour,Dying Fetus, and Fleshgod are enough to make me want to go. I will say I am a bit letdown by the lineup(I did a double take at Six Feet Under, I couldn't believe my eyes). I like this year's lineup more than last years.

Dying Fetus, Fleshgod apocalypse and The Black Dahlia Murder kick ass
Darkest Hour and Powerglove would be at least fun/entertaining
Six Feet Under would be an experience. Can't really comment on if it'd be good or bad, but they're definitely a legendary band.

Whitechapel, As Blood Runs Black, and Oceano are aids.

they need to really stop reusing bands.

I'd see this, even though I don't care for most of the bands, SS is always fun to go to. Dying Fetus kicks ass, and Six Feet Under has about 3 good songs, and I'm really surprised to see them on this. I remember reading something about two years ago or so saying that they never play in the US (outside local shows) because nobody books them.

NecroRob
03-31-2011, 08:22 PM
I know I'll end up going to this, but god damn this is pretty disappointing. I mean Six Feet Under? Is that really supposed to make the death metal fans happy?

Revocation or Neuraxis better fucking get on this bill.

Steev
03-31-2011, 08:38 PM
SFU would be interesting just to say I saw them(and now they have some of the gents from Chimaira)

main selling points for me are Black Dahlia Murder, Darkest Hour, and PowerGlove

hellawaits77ny
03-31-2011, 10:42 PM
I'm happy to see SFU on the tour. Still a subpar lineup IMO, but if tix are the right price, Dying Fetus + SFU will seal the deal for me.

AnataFan4Life
04-01-2011, 04:42 AM
As disappointing as this lineup is, if it comes near me i'll prolly still go for TBDM, Darkest Hour, Dying Fetus, Fleshgod, and Powerglove. Hopefully Augury, Revocation, or Neuraxis land that opening slot, but it will probably go to another shitty deathcore band. Whitechapel are ok, nothing special. Could never get into Six Feet Under. The other two bands are complete garbage.

makethemsuffer12
04-01-2011, 05:45 AM
I almost want to go for SFU. They're not a great band by any means, but being a huge Cannibal/Chimaira fan kind of makes me want to go. Also I heard that they might put a few CC songs in their set.

I'm a little iffy about I Cum Blood and SR&S. They'd most likely do one well known CC song, then the rest would be lesser played ones. Personally, I'm hoping for Pulverized, Gutted, Bloody Chunks, and Entrails Ripped from a Virgin's Cunt.

Well like I said, the only bands that completely offend me this year are ABRB and Oceano. Whitechapel are nothing special but I don't hate them. Six Feet Under will hopefully fill up a good portion of their set with Cannibal Corpse songs and the rest of their set might provide a good laugh. The rest of the bands will be a fucking blast though :rocker:

I'm 99% sure this tour will hit Minnesota, and I may even go. I've never seen TBDM, Dying Fetus, or Fleshgod Apocalypse live. I saw Darkest Hour on the Sounds Of The Underground tour, and they were badass.

Something tells me Six Feet Under will be nothing but originals and the funny ass covers like AC/DC.

I haven't heard enough ABRB *or I don't even think I have* to pass judgment on them, but if they are being compared to Oceano, they must suck.

I guess if nothing else I can hang out with the good bands when the shitty bands are playing.

As disappointing as the lineup is this year, I really don't think they had much to pick from this year. Most of their usual itinerary are busy doing something else this summer. However, leaving the opening act in the hands of Facebook users does not bode well.

I won't be too hurt if SS doesn't come near me this year, but if it does i'll probably still go just for the good bands on the lineup. I can think of ABRB and Oceano as an extended break.

Any idea of who Obscura might be touring with?

Maybe they can grab Augury, Neuraxis, and Revocation off of that Summer Slaughter list if they don't get picked.

I don't know the full details on that one, but they are coming in the Fall.

I also was told about another huge tour, but this time, I can't say a word about it. *this time I actually promised I wouldn't say anything* but it will be happening in the late Fall/Winter, but it will be worth the wait.

Obscura?

I heard Late Summer/Early Fall. But then again checking their Facebook it may be a bit sooner. Which I hope is true because I gotta see them. Quote from Obscura's Facebook:

Huge U.S. tour announcement in less than 2 weeks! Can you guess who we're playing with?

I very well could be wrong on that statement, but at the moment, there is no toehr big tour going on here in the states during June/July, that hasn't already been announced. And the only reason the COB/DTP tour hasn't been announced yet is because they needed an opening band. I'm just trying to put two and two together.

I also would rather have Obscura do a solo tour. But I know they are not big enough yet to make a headlining tour successful unless they headline Summer Slaughter next year or something.

Besides two of my favorite bands, opening for a band I can leave or hang out with before Children of Bodom sounds pretty damn good to me.

The Contortionist is one of my favorite young bands right now. I guess you could call it deathcore, but it's just as much djent also, with progressive metal. Just listen to Primal Directive or Flourish... they mix in excellent clean vocals and soft parts reminiscent of Opeth. By far one of the most original bands to come out in a while. I really, really want to see them make it big and put out some more albums. Seeing them open would be fantastic, and open them up to a whole new audience.

That being said... we could also have REVOFUCKINCATION or NEURFUCKINAXIS :shred:

Same, I picked up Exoplanet somewhere not knowing anything about the band, and that record is just fantastic. It took me a while to get used to the deathcore parts, but it works overall. The more they move away from deathcore, the better. Their prog parts are superb.

This. Not that I necessarily hate the bands on this lineup (except Oceano... no musical substance to them at all); in fact, I think I'm gonna have a blast. But when it comes down to it, the -core bands have their tours. Pure death metal- the metal I adore the most and grew up on- relies on this as its only major summer tour. Summer Slaughter is turning into a different beast, whether we agree with it or not.

Nice. CFTG is not bad at all. I did vote The Contortionist as #1 also, just because I've been dying to see them, and they're so small that SS could introduce them to a cool new audience. All these bands should be on the tour already, especially with crap like As Blood Runs Black and Oceano on the bill. Revocation should have one of their spots easily.

If I do go I know I'd have a good time regardless of what bands are on there because some good friends are going, that's what happened last year. I just think this lineup is atrocious and not worth taking a day off work for because I've already seen the 3 bands I want to see. And I'm just relying on the individual tours this summer to be awesome. This year:

Good:

The Black Dahlia Murder
Six Feet Under
Dying Fetus
Fleshgod Apocalypse
Possibly Augury, Revocation, Neuraxis

Okay:

Darkest Hour
Powerglove

Bad:

Whitechapel
As Blood Runs Black
Oceano

---

2010:

Good:

Decapitated
The Faceless
Decrepit Birth
Vital Remains*

Okay:

Decapitated#
Animals As Leaders

Bad:

All Shall Perish
Veil Of Maya
The Red Chord
Carnifex

* - Vital Remains opened so it's like they didn't even play at all. Didn't they have like a 25 minute set? What is that, two songs by them?

# - Decapitated headlining Summer Slaughter after their wreck was a terrible choice for them, IMO. Yeah, they're a good band, but the "new" Decapitated isn't nearly as good as they were and I think (even though it sounds bad) they just rode the wave of popularity they got from the accident.

treghet

Fair enough. My opinion is more like this:

2011

Good:

Dying Fetus

Okay:

Fleshgod Apocalypse

Bad:

The Black Dahlia Murder
Whitechapel
Darkest Hour
Six Feet Under
As Blood Runs Black
Oceano
Powerglove

---

2010

Good:

Decapitated
The Faceless
The Red Chord
Cephalic Carnage
Decrepit Birth
Animals as Leaders
Vital Remains

Okay:

All Shall Perish

Bad:

Veil of Maya
Carnifex

That being said, I do agree that the new Decapitated wasn't all that interesting, and their 9 song set was terrible. I still enjoyed it for what it was, but overall they were disappointing.

I've seen them live twice and they put on a good show, but on record their vocalist annoys me. Also, a lot of the riffs bore me. I put them in the "bad" category, but I don't think they're a bad band, they just don't interest me at all.

The Black Dahlia Murder kicks ass.

I also don't understand why they are labeled as Metalcore, other than the fact that they are from America and they are liked by scene kids for some odd reason. They sound like straight up Melodic Death Metal to me.

Eh, thats a good point, and the one major gripe I have with them. Trevor is screaming way, WAAAY too much in all their songs. There's no room for the music to breathe and develop. He needs to calm down, and set up a chorus and verse like any other vocalist, rather than just screaming shit throughout the whole song.

As for the riffs boring you... what the hell are you smokin'?!

I've never, ever heard them called metalcore before. Yes, they're always mislabeled as deathcore, but not metalcore. You're correct that they are straight up Melodic Death Metal, and one of the best "hot topic" bands out there because of it.

Their first EP is a little coreish but aside from that I consider them melodic death. Those dudes have some good music taste always posting some good old school death metal on their facebook page. Anyone who listens to Jumpin' Jesus is cool in my book.

For me it's not so much that he screams the entire length of the song, but that his high screams just bother me.

And to me a lot of the riffs sound like rehashed melodic death metal riffs from the 90s, but less cohesive (example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgxAaCjsYq0)). There are some great riffs (and solos) in there, but I guess what I'm trying to say is, the band is good at what they do, but they aren't for me.

Just listened to a few songs from Deflorate though, and I can say it sounds a hell of a lot better and more original than anything else they've done, but the screams still bother me.

I don't mind Whitechapel too much either, they don't really piss me off like Suicide Silence and some other deathcore bands do. There is just nothing special about them at all. I wouldn't even be pissed about them being on the bill if they were in the middle and not on top. They're certainly more tolerable than Oceano and other much worse deathcore bands.

I'm just really unimpressed with the headliners this year. The Black Dahlia Murder is alright I've just never really been able to get into them.

Whitechapel is a good live band, I don't mind them. But I agree, they're just generic deathcore. They are extremely popular, and I just don't understand why.

But then again, think about how popular virtually all deathcore has become? Look at bands like Emmure, Suicide Silence, Oceano, etc. They sell a lot of records, and are straight doo-doo.
