NOTHING OFFICIALY ANNOUNCED YET.

Okay. So there's definitely a Scion Rock Fest next year. It says so on the website http://www.scion.com/rockshow

I actually just Googled "scion rock fest 2011" and I found something interesting, if not suspicious. This was one of the results:

French: Scion Rock Fest 2011 (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&sqi=2&ved=0CBwQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Ffuneralfrench.blogspot.com%2F2011 %2F01%2Fscion-rock-fest-2011.html&rct=j&q=scion%20rock%20fest%202011&ei=DbQrTZ3NNIaZOpvG5ZAK&usg=AFQjCNHtSloa3A3IQ6Iy23XV2V2NiBfBFw&sig2=MG7laoQwGfODQHemQAWfoQ&cad=rja)
Jan 10, 2011 ... Scion Rock Fest 2011. I'm so stoked, I just got to draw this for the Scion Rock Fest this year, "Morbid Angel" and "Obituary" ... its gonna ...
funeralfrench.blogspot.com/2011/01/scion-rock-fest-2011.html

... and when I clicked on the link, the page suddenly did not exist. Notice how the thing was posted TODAY. Obviously the site posted something they weren't supposed to. Perhaps Morbid Angel and Obituary are playing? I doubt that but ya never know...

Oh yeah, and I've been listening to Owen Hart today and I stumbled upon an interview between them and the Tacoma Weekly. They said they're doing Scion Rock Fest in March.

Morbid Angel and Agalloch alone is enough for me to go cross country.

But the rest of the line up is unreal also.

The real underrated addition here is Primate. I realize some here may not be familiar with them since they are new to the game, but Primate is a side project of Bill from Mastodon with Kevin Sharp on vox. They rule.

Fuck. This is nowhere near spring break but if the lineup turns into an offer I can't refuse, I might have to make the trip. Well Kvelertak is in and there are less than 2 months between shows in Europe they have booked, and this is right in the middle of it. Looks like the west coast should get some dates for sure.

I just have simply one question to ask:confused:

It says "free entry"....so this is a "first come, first serve" free gig? There's not going to be any entry fee(I hope it's the latter. That way I don't have to go super early and stand in line for hours)??? Either way the Glasshouse is only about 20 minutes away from where I reside so the drive will be easy as pie.....I'm just concerned if the show is going to be a FREE gig or what???

Wizzbang11
01-11-2011, 06:34 PM

I'm hoping it's not a FREE gig. I feel like I would have a better chance at getting in the show if they have a standard ticket price(20 bucks ect).

I just don't want to have to go through the trouble of leaving super early just to "claim my spot" in line and wait for hours upon hours until they open the door. But if it has to be done then it has to be done. I really wan't see Obituary again and I've never seen Morbid Angel or Death angel so they are on my list of Bands to see before I croke. I almost went and saw Morbid Angel in Los Angeles back in 2009, but I backed out last minute because I was drained and totally dead/tired from Kreator and Napalm death(who were BOTH playing around the same exact week aswell as morbid angel. All 3 bands had gigs in LA in that same week/month.....ALSO LA is a bitch of a drive...ESPECIALLY when you drive down there twice in two days for two different shows....especially during rush hour. :hecho:).

Yeah, Floor is most definitely back together. I saw them twice in one day this summer during FunFunFunFest and an after party.

I too would love to see these bands if it weren't so damn far.

The one they did last year in Columbus, you had to RSVP online and then you got a confirmation email and then you picked up your free ticket from a record store in your area. Also the one in Columbus was spread across multiple venues. People on the board here who went could provide more info.

Or you could pick them up in LA the day before or something.

For the Scion Fest in Atlanta, out of towners were able to register online and were placed on a will-call list. Nobody was turned away that year...people were walking in right before Neurosis even. Don't know how it worked in Columbus. I'm sure they'll put up a FAQ once all the news is officially released.

They will distribute through local record stores. Probably The Glass House record store or other small places.

But wow, the idea of closing down Pomona's Art District for this is amazing. I'm very familiar with the area and it is by far the perfect place for something like this to happen. Very stocked for final band announcement. Here's hoping for Toxic Holocaust and Skeletonwitch.

The first year's lineup was still the best, I think, but this year's lineup is almost as good. 6 bands I genuinely want to see (Wormrot, Woe, Morbid Angel, Death Angel, Nails, Black Breath) and at least 2 bands I think would be freakin awesome live (Municipal Waste, Agalloch).

I'm still pissed that the first fest was 18+:mad: How often does a fest like that come to Atlanta, of all places, for fuckin free??? (Though I honestly don't care that it was free, I would've gladly paid a shitload of money to go.)

Don't hold your breath.

Through the first 3 scions, the promoters have made it a point of never having the same band twice.

Toxic Holocaust and Skeletonwitch both played in Atlanta.

I wan't to go to this show very badly but I just want to figure out how the ticketing thing works. I cant really see this type of gig being distributed through ticketmaster and mainstream ticket outlets(and FYE is the only Record store around me and they only sell LIVE NATION/ticket master events. So I doubt I can go to FYE/ticketmaster to get my tickets there.)

I apologize for the lame rant, just kind of want to get my ticket and get it over with so i don't have to worry about it selling out(which this show will NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. Warbringer already played Scion 09, they aren't being added.

As for your concerns about the tickets/capacity....I will try and address them, but this is strictly based on prior experience from attending both prior fests.

You will RSVP through Scion's website. Apparently this opens up tomorrow. You will want to do that now as opposed to next month, because they will shut it off once a certain amount of people RSVP. This is the "selling out" scenario you mention, but they do RSVP way more people than can fit, but that has always worked out with the amount of no-shows.

If you don't frequent one of the local record stores/establishments that they list on the site when you sign up, you just select the will call option.

If you are will call, you just stand in a long line on the day of the fest, and hope you get to the front to get your wristband before they "sell out", but you have to be on the RSVP list, they look you up and check IDs. In the past 2 fests there were enough no shows that I dont think anyone ever got turned away, but everyone lines up pretty early just in case because you dont want to travel all the way and get sent packing.

With 2 venues involved, each venue has its own capacity where if enough people go to one place at the same time, you may not get in if you are bouncing from stage to stage. They will have 4 stages going at once, and they spread it out pretty well so you can usually see who you want to see, but who knows. Some people choose to post up at one venue.stage and stay there, other people bounce around. Dont expect to see more than 50 percent of the bands, and thats only if you are seeing half sets. They will have 4 stages going at once all day.

They will try and match the bigger bands to the larger capacity stages and what not. It always has run very smooth and is very well run for a large fest.

Eh, I dunno about that man. There may be a band you'd rather see that's playing at the same time as Death Angel. Plus, what most people do from what I hear, is see half of one band's set so they can get to another band in time. In addition, DA's headlining set will probably be a lot longer than their Scion set.

Just a heads-up.

If this show was just one week later I would have definitely made the trip down, but it just happens to be on the Saturday before I have finals. God. Fucking. Dammit. It's actually kind of blowing my mind how awesome that bill is.

Oh well, here's to hoping some of those bands decide to make the short trip up to Seattle before or after the show.

The places to get tickets are pretty much for the locals only. San Fran, San Diego and Pheonix are pretty much the farthest places they will hand out tickets. Those traveling could do will call, but risk not getting in, so it would be a waste to travel so far.

Bay heads can pick up their ticket at Aquarius Records in SF, nice of them to hook up a retailer here instead of making will call the only choice. Wine, StonyD, other volk from the better half of the golden state, roadtrip is on. You'd be surprised here in San Francisco. The scene here is pretty fucking good, but a lot of the bands that are sort of tweeners in theater/club size don't make it here.

LA will get pretty much every national tour, but not San Francisco or Portland.

rjturtle9

Lets just rename this thread to the "Official hate on So-Cal Thread"

Sometimes you can't make every tour, deal worth it. I've traveled from outside my state to see hows. When Megadeth didn't play L.A. on the Endgame tour, I went and saw them. When Ozzfest was in Dallas, I went to Dallas and saw that.
And later on in the year, I'm gonna be going to Cleveland and Florida to see Rush and Iron Maiden.

I know traveling may not be an option for some people, doesn't make that the fault of the band's management. I've seen many threads started on here at say East Coast Tour, and I never bitched about it. And besides, this is the first time this fest is even on this side of the country. God damn!

I'm saying the last 2 years have been on the east cost in the midwest.

And yeah, a lot of tours only hit LA/SD because it's close enough to the southwest and the only other major markets on the west coast are the bay, Portland and Seattle.

What time you actually plan on leaving to get to the show? I just want to get a good idea of how early I should get there from hearing other peoples plans. Doors open/Show starts at 4pm. Will call line starts at 2pm.....obviously its going to be a bit of mission getting everyone in and breaking the news to the people that can't get in.....so How early do you think you'll be going??

I think I will most likely get in line by 1 PMish....maybe earlier :hecho:

I honestly don't know. My friend is the one driving, so it depends on what time he's okay with. I'd like to get there as early as possible, but 1 sounds good. But if you have will-call you might want to get there earlier.

You are coming from Los Angeles eh? I dont think traffic gets ugly untill passed 2pm:hecho:

Thankfully I have a measly 20 minute drive ahead of me...give or take.:hmm:

Damn it feels good that I didn't have to shell out any cash for this show. Now all the funds can go into food, water and more food and water...and hopefully an awesome Morbid Angel shirt or something:rocker:

You're going to show up around 11 am? I think the Will call starts at 2 pm. But I plan on getting there by 11:30ish-12pmish. Also, what do you mean by "getting a pit wristband from the fox theater". This is the main problem with these types of festivals. I couldn't fathom choosing between Morbid Angel and Anaal. Plus, I would be missing Municipal Waste who I would have liked to seen.

This is how my day would probbaly look like, though:

Wormrot- 4:40 to 4:50
run over to Tent 2 for...
Woe 5:35 to 6:10
run back over to Tent #1 and see the last ten minutes or so of Primate as I wait for...
Nails 6:45 to 7:10
choose between running over to the Fox to see Agalloch from 7:40 to 8:30 or the Glass House to see Immolation from 7:30 to 8:15. Either way I'd be missing Black Breath, who are really good live.
If I decide to see Immolation, I'll just stay at the Glass House after their set and wait for...
Death Angel- 8:40 to 9:35
...If I decide to see Anaal Nathrakh, then I'll start my trek to the Fox. On the way maybe I'll stop at Tent 1 if Integrity is any good. I bet a lot of people will be thinking of doing this, so my plan may not even work, but I'll try to see the first 15-20 min of Morbid Angel, haul it over to Tent 2 for Anaal 10:50 to 11:30. Then I'll try to catch the last 15 minutes of Morbid Angel 9:30 to 10:45, which probably won't work out, so I may have to leave before Anaal's last song.
...If I decide to see Morbid Angel, I'll do the same thing as above, without stopping at Tent 2 at all. But who knows, I may decide to stay for Municipal Waste a bit then go over to the Fox or Tent 2.

...If I was going :eyes:

Crom (4:45 - 5:10) - Then after Crom I'll probably go buy merch and then go wait for Kvelertak.
Kvelertak (5:35 - 6:15)
Atheist (6:25 - 7:10)
Immolation (7:30 - 8:15) - After Immolation is done I'll go watch the rest of Agalloch's set.
Agalloch (7:40 - 8:30)
Death Angel (8:40 - 9:35) - I'll watch a few songs and then go see Obituary.
Obituary (9:00 - 9:55) - Afterward I'll go watch Integrity.
Integrity (9:30 - 10:25) - I'll leave a few minutes before they finish to ensure I get a good spot for Morbid Angel. :rocker:

Yeah I will, I also am going to pick up my tickets before hand, so I don't have to deal with will call. Why would you do will call and not just go to a record store?

For some unknown reason, the Fox decided to do what the Wiltern does and limit the amount of people who go in the front section of the pit. They didn't do this a year ago, but in the last 6 months or so they cracked down and only allowed those with a wristband to be up front against the rail. If you didn't have the wrist band, then you had to stand about 40 feet back. I'm not sure if they will be strict about it for this show or not.

treghet

Yeah, I feel ya on that one brotha. I saw Destruction at the Chain Reaction back in 2009, and I will admit, I really liked how small and "intimate" the venue was. Really damn small and intimate. I've only been there once but I did have a blast, indeed.:rocker:

ughhh thats sounds fun.
