Guess who just got hard? haha. Woohoo! Saint Vitus and Crowbar together is epic. I never really listened to Helmet, so it would be perfect for me if they weren't on the bill as headliner, but I'll get Meantime and check it out now.

So looking on the page the picture says "Doom Metal Alliance" I'm unsure what Helmet has to do w/ Doom Metal exactly but shit that is an amazing lineup.

Helmet is the definition of doom metal. Katatonia ripped off Helmet all the time.

Not at all. Are we listening to the same band? Helmet is in no way a doom band, more an alternative metal w/ influences ranging from noise rock to post-hardcore, but never doom metal. And Katatonia was death doom / gothic doom, not even like Pentagram's traditional doom.

Thank god... I was waiting a little bit b/c I was unsure if there was sarcasm behind that statment or not but Helmet is several different genres but they do not even sniff doom.

Black Sabbath themselves were ripping off Helmet left and right over the course of a full 2 decades before Helmet came into existence, don't you know?

One of the dates on ticketmaster has Kylesa playing also. The openers may be different for each show from the looks of it.

We have Irving Plaza, which usually takes forever to update their info on what bands are playing past the headliner :tp: Hopefully we have as great openers.

That'd make four awesome openers and three national acts heading up the tour that I basically don't care about that much, but would be willing to see. :D

Bad news... http://www.theprp.com/2011/01/21/news/intronaut-not-taking-part-in-metalliance-tour/

Despite being listed on a number of venue sites for select dates of the upcoming “Metalliance Tour” with Helmet, Saint Vitus and Crowbar, it would appear that Intronaut will not be taking part in the trek. The following statement was issued by the bands camp:

“Apparently there is some misleading information out there on the internet. Just so you guys know, we are NOT a part of the upcoming Metalliance tour. However, from what we’ve been told, the bands who will be on it are all awesome and you should still go to that show!”

Now I am really confused. I could believe that IntrOnaut (and others) might be saying that they are not part of the tour as a whole, because they are not traveling around the country with the "big three" bands...however, it does still look like some of the supporting bands we've been hearing about will apparently be playing on some of the same dates and in the same venues as this tour (for example, Peabody's is the local venue for me, and it says right on their web site that IntrOnaut, Howl, The Atlas Moth and Keelhaul are playing in addition to Helmet, St. Vitus and Crowbar).

Here's some more evidence (emphasis added by yours truly):

Source (http://www.smnnews.com/2011/01/20/intronaut-to-appear-on-select-dates-of-upcoming-metalliance-tour/)

"Los Angeles progressive post-metallers Intronaut have revealed that they will be appearing on select dates for the forthcoming “Metalliance Tour.” The “Metalliance Tour” features headliners Helmet alongside Saint Vitus and Crowbar. Other special guests scheduled to appear include Kylesa, Howl, The Atlas Moth, Naam and Royal Thunder.

You can view a list of the updated tour:

well the post you had above didn't have anything lined up for NYC, which is very unlikely that they wouldn't add any other bands for that date.

That's a long way for them to travel just for one date...I'm curious as to what that's all about. The only other show they're playing in that time frame (at least as far as I can find) is at Echoplex in LA on 3/13. Red Fang is definitely releasing a new album, though. It's due out 4/12, so this could be a tour warm-up thing, I suppose. It's just that NYC is a long fucking way from Portland, Oregon is all.

intronaut never "revealed that they will be appearing on select dates". smn made that up for whatever reason. i would know because im the one who compiled that list of openers for the prp (http://www.theprp.com/2011/01/19/news/initial-guest-openers-revealed-for-helmet-saint-vitus-and-crowbar-tour/), which smn clearly just copied and pasted. i would guess that simply intronaut was tenative for the tour, and the venues that have them listed missed the memo about them not being on it.

:( nattyPlain and simple - I just never got into St. Vitus. No reason why. I've listened to some samples recently, and quite frankly I think there are some bands today who have taken cues from them and created something that appeals to me even more. I'll certainly give St. Vitus props for being among the first to do it, before it was stylish and so forth, but trying to get into them now is just a challenge for me.

Having said that, they definitely don't suck. They just don't get my motor running like they do for some people. Same with Maiden.

KYLESA, RED FANG, HOWL and ATLAS MOTH have been confirmed as the support acts for the inaugural Metalliance Tour — featuring HELMET, SAINT VITUS and CROWBAR. The trek will cover the U.S. from March 17 through April 5.

Some venues, like I know Peabodys does on occasion, will probably utilize more than one stage. This is technically billed as a festival tour.

Also, according to the Metalliance Facebook page, every announced band is playing every date, including Kylesa, Red Fang, Howl and The Atlas Moth.

This tour isn't hitting the Glass House :pissed: Its going to the Brick by Brick in San Diego instead. Looks like I'll be hitting up the Hollywood show. Too many fucking bands are playing that night. I just want a night with St Vitus playing for 100 minutes and Crowbar playing a 70 minute set. Nope, I'll be lucky if both play 40. There are 8 bands playing that night, WTF? Helmet with Saint Vitus and Crowbar, Kylesa, Red Fang, Howl, Atlas Moth, Witchburn

That sounds rad but I hope next time they book less bands. 4 of these bands could headline their own tours, the other 3 could leave at this point. I think I would want a 2 headlining bands with 2 supporting upcoming bands type deal.

Blackmore?
Petrovar?
Bloodcurse?

Any of the Pittsburgh crew?

Got V.I.P. for this bad boy, pretty stoked for this shit.Sweet. I was actually thinking about trying to get V.I.P. as well - haven't decided yet.

Anyway, that makes three of us so far. We should definitely give each other a shout at the show. For my part, here are some good ways to pick me out of the crowd:

I'm 6'-4" and 250 lbs. Chicks hide behind me at the edge of the pit all the time so they don't get slammed into. If someone is standing in front of you and blocking your view, that might be me (sorry).
If you read my recent birthday thread, you'll know that I just turned 40. I don't look that old, but if you're looking for a teenager then you're barking up the wrong tree.
I generally wear a black bandanna on my head when I go to shows.
I always wear cargo shorts when I go to shows - no matter what the weather. It's too fucking hot in the pit to be wearing jeans. Fuck that shit.
Despite what said about being in the pit, I generally don't mosh all that much. I typically stand at the edge of the pit and serve as a fullback for chicks and smaller dudes like I said above. If the action gets really insane I might jump in, though.
For this particular show, I'll probably be wearing a shirt from some sludge band such as Kylesa, or maybe Baroness. Probably the Kylesa shirt, since I just got it last month and need to break it in. :D (The one I have has a grim reaper design on the front.)
That should give you guys an idea of how to spot me in the crowd. I'd love to meet another metalsetlists member or two, if you're down for it.

The three largest metropolitan areas in terms of population (NYC, LA and Chicago) all have pretty good scenes. Places like Austin, TX and Atlanta, GA are pretty good, too. And even though we've both made fun of Cleveland before, it really isn't all that bad because you can also catch shows in the Columbus, Pittsburgh and Detroit areas as well without too much trouble.

I'd like to see that, except replace Mastodon (they've done enough touring throughout the past 2 years...) with High On Fire (who were originally supposed to play this tour in Helmet's slot ) and add in Torche, Witchcraft and Graveyard.

Little off topic. If anyone is going to Dallas show and getting VIP tickets have you got yours in the mail yet? Just curious b/c they were supposedly mailed out Tuesday. Didn't know if they were taking their sweet ass time for me or if I'm not the only one. Proceed w/ your Metalliance 2 discussion...

Finally got ticket. I'm guessing that the VIP won't last very long if Dallas is like the other dates. The e-mail I got said to get there no later than 4:45 and the time on the ticket says 5:30. Kinda blows if thats all it will be.

So, in case anyone who is going to the Cleveland show is interested in the details, here is how it's going to work:

The seven national acts (Helmet, St. Vitus, Crowbar, Kylesa, Red Fang, Howl, The Atlas Moth) will be on the main stage, one after the other. Local acts (Keelhaul, Hellmouth, Rue) will be playing in the Pirate's Cove. Apparently, the venue is going to be running the stages such that there is minimal overlap between bands, and almost a constant flow of music throughout the night (in other words, they're going to do their best to have the local bands play in the slots between national acts). The transition time between sets is going to be very short (apparently, like 15-20 minutes), in order to get all the sets in before 1:00 AM, which is their curfew.

The above is what I was told by Kimber, who is one of the talent buyers at Peabody's, when I went there to pick up my ticket last Friday. She said the show is selling pretty well, but they still had some tickets available at that time. Judging from what I'm hearing on the street, a lot of people are planning on going, so it should be good and crowded.

That's about all I know. Hope to see some of you degenerates there (Blackmore, Jedi, Petrovar...I'm looking at you ;)). I'll be the tall guy in the black Kylesa t-shirt with the grim reaper design on the front, cargo shorts (either dark khaki or camo), gray & black New Balance sneakers with orange trim, and most likely a black bandanna on my head (unless it gets lost in the pit, which could very well happen at this show). :fist:

Four days, bitches!

Love,
The Nat :horns:
