Talented vocalist.

I have to say, that is the straight up truth. I'm not particularly drawn to their instrumentation, but Trevor's vocals are what make me like them. I'll say I like them live a lot, because that's the truth, but it's a rare day that I'll go "Hey, let's spin Nocturnal."

Yeah, I never listen to them because I just don't enjoy their music. But I can see the appeal they have to some.

This has to be the most stupid, fucking ridiculous music review ever of the Deftones tour in Milwaukee.

Basically, the reviewer hated Dillinger Escape Plan. With a passion! Direct quote:

"Picture a kitchen with a plethora of pots and pans hanging from the ceiling on hooks. Now picture them falling to the ground. Thatís what the Dillinger Escape Plan sounds like. Really try it at home! I can do screamo, I am a fan of Suicide Silence, but at least Suicide Silence knows how to write music. Last night was just a train wreck."

This is reminding me of the debacle my band ran into when we got our demo CD pressed in February 2009. I was dead-set on only pressing 500 of them, but everyone else was like: "Dude we get 500 for $700 and like 1,000 for $800, we might as well", so I buckled. The consequence? 2 years later, I have about 500 CDs in boxes in my closet. The first 100-150 went within the first 2 weeks, and we sold maybe 100 more through shows, and about 50 more online since. But lately we've just been giving them away since we made back the amount of money we spent on it and it's outdated at this point anyway. But yeah, I really wish I would've just put my foot down about only getting 500, despite the deal.

The quality is fantastic actually, I love the place we got them done. In fact the damn thing LOOKS much better than it sounds, haha. Actually there's not really anything wrong with the guitars/vocals, but the bass is mixed very, very low (because our ex-bassist was mediocre and the bass sound sucked), and the drums really sound shitty - it's a long story. The thing also should've been mastered louder. Overall I'm still pretty proud of the outcome actually, especially since we got the studio time for FREE (won it in a contest). But yeah, looks-wise our CD is top-notc.

That rules. Yeah, I was even concerned about 220 being high, but who knew so many foreign distros were dying to trade for copies (note: I have not made a dime yet, but I have a shit ton of records coming to me, including some awesome OOP stuff for when my distro opens over the summer, so that's cool.) I fucking despise the production on our side of the split, love the songs but it was so DIY that it just ended up sounding bad to me, which is odd since I have very low standards. Luckily it seems like people in the circles I travel in disagree. But we are going to record in a real studio in the fall, so maybe we'll finally actually be able to get nice production.

Yeah, my band is currently exploring the logistical possibilities about funding a full-length, professional-quality album ourselves, and then shopping it around for some kind of a deal to finally "shit or get off the pot", we've been together like 7 years (albeit with various line-ups and we've come a LONG way), but I'm sick of the "You guys have a ton of potential, but..." responses. Sadly financially none of us are in a really great spot, but we're gonna be able to get a pretty reasonable break in the price so that we should be able to do a full-length professional album for $1,800-$2,000 including pressing/manufacturing it. Also one of my favorite guitarists has agreed to mix/master it for us, free of charge. So yeah, that's what's on the agenda for us at the moment. We've kinda given up on live shows as it's completely futile in our area. We've written a ton of great new songs in the past year and are finally ready to make the BIG step I think.

Sounds very similar to alot of bands in Ireland, theres about 10 I can think of who have the potential, in terms of drive, musical ability, and age (in terms of no mortgage payments or families to think of) to actually get a name for themselves. Only thing is, to do that, they need to get out and tour, which, short-term, is incredibly hard and pricey, so its kind of a lose lose. It does get to a point where its either make a break for it, or just cease being a band, or at least maing it look lie you want to make it big.

Man, never feel bad about taking guitar lessons. They help immensely. Lessons should be for learning your chops, finesse and techniques- then on your own, take that technique and learn different songs and try and make your own style of playing. I am jeleous!

So today my History teacher tried pissing me off by putting on Amon Amarth songs in class and telling me they all sound the same. Then he looked at my Diamond Eyes shirt and told me Deftones suck(Favorite band next to Tool). The sad part is he listens to Godsmack and Disturbed.....

Well, at least he wasn't totally wrong.;)

I took Latin in high school and hated it. I deserve to be kicked in the balls for spending two semesters studying a dead language. If they'd had AP languages though I probably would have done Spanish.

Nevertheless, if given the option, I'd rather learn a non-romance language. I'm not expecting Arabic to be of much use in the states, but given the U.S.'s interest and continuous involvement in the Middle East, you can't tell me it won't be of use in the international job market.

 Arabic actually has a 28 letter (or so) alphabet based on pronunciation, but since it's written in cursive, words can really start to change forms depending on what's being written. Take for instance (with the help of Google Translator):

"Coming to" is written "القادمة ل"

"Coming to an" is written "على وشك"

Given their similarity in English, they're not written similarly at all in Arabic.

Japanese and Chinese are totally different because there is no alphabet in the same sense, there are just thousands of characters you have to learn.

I'm pissed that I took Latin III this year though. I decided to take it in case I ended up going to a private liberal arts school, which I am not, and University of Vermont, the school I am going to, only require two years of a language. Dude, I fucking hate school so much right now. Maybe it's because my non-major classes suck and I have to legitimately try hard to not fail them right now, but if I'm doing what I want to do for my career right now, at the student paper, with my forthcoming internship, and when various sites/publications ask me to contribute work, why the fuck do I need a piece of paper that says I spent thousands upon thousands to do just that?

I dunno, in high school I was grade-crazed, ended with like a 4.6 or some shit, sixth in my class, 32 on my ACT, was gonna grab the world by the tail, tie it around and put it in my pocket, but I've seen through the veil and I'm fucking done. Sorry for ranting, I just don't want to know anything else about international trade, occultism in Africa or any other bullshit that I'll never use. I like learning just to learn, but I can do that by reading, and I do. Some phony-ass GPA and certification does not make Person A smarter than Person B, and I'm fucking done.

illuminatus917

International trade is pretty much my major, and I'm not only finding it useful, but extremely interesting as well.

Occultism in Africa just sounds badass. Straight up. I'd love to study that if I had the semester hours. I'm already on the 5+ year plan because I'm insisting on taking so many poli-sci courses. I don't have a lot of room to spare to indulge in anything else.

I definitely get the "I hate how students are assessed by their test scores and GPA" mentality. It seems to just get worse and worse, I don't know. I do think though that college is a limited experience, and we only have so much time in our life to have the opportunity to learn in such a stimulating setting. Reading is one way to learn. So is experience. But learning a subject in a person-to-person setting from someone who has devoted their life to studying it is something you can't get anywhere else, and it's really something to make the most of and appreciate.

By that logic, unless you are out butchering people, you shouldn't listen to Cannibal Corpse. Good music is good music, lyrical content doesn't always come into play when you like a song. I guarantee you don't agree with every single lyric from every single song you like.

It may not happen to everyone but I do sense alot of denial in people ridicule "conspiracy theorists". I understand why things we say seem strange, like fluoride in our tap water being a poison, and mercury being in the vaccines no one wants to believe that them and their friends and family are being poisoned. Also your entire belief system will change and when you have a certain belief system of so long it's hard to accept something that might challenge it.
People not believing what I say doesn't piss me off what pisses me off is the ridicule we get, the ignorance alot of people show their refuseal to denounce everything we say without looking at it. Nobody, for instance, is exploring the possibility that the Osama bin Laden shot in Pakistan was actually a robot duplicate created by DisneyCorp. Nobody's even considered that the entire operation was filmed on a sound-stage in Arizona. There's not a single post anywhere detailing the fact that steel is obviously heavier than air so it's completely inconceivable that these so-called "helicopters" could actually fly the way the US Government says they did.

People not believing what I say doesn't piss me off what pisses me off is the ridicule we get, the ignorance alot of people show their refuseal to denounce everything we say without looking at it. It's name calling too, and these people that call us names aren't 12 years old alot of them are 30 or older. To me that digiguses the fact that they are in denial, deep down they know atleast some of what I say is true but don't want to admit it.

Yeah, pretty much my thoughts as well, and why I can't stand people like this, regardless of what exactly we're talking about (Conspiracy Theorists, Religious Fanatics, Right-Wing Conservative Nuts). If all you ever do is look for "proof" in what other people say, and the only knowledge you can ever pass on is a bunch of tired old talking points and obvious, played-out points and perspectives, you are absolutely no better than the "sheep" you are making others out to be.

The mercury used in vaccines is still in dispute on whether or not it causes harmful effects on the body. apparently there are two kinds of mercury, methyl and ethyl. thimersol is ethyl-mercury. even though ethyl-mercury is safe, your body will convert it to methyl-mercury over time and then it can become harmful. the argument supporting this in vaccines states that your body will get rid of the mercury before it has the chance to become oxidized. if you really want to find out whether it is harmful you need to calculate in the rate at which your body can remove mercury and then check it against the rate at which ethyl-mercury is converted into methyl-mercury.

There is mercury in vaccines I refuse to get them. How anyone can sit there and tell me that mercury is safe is beyond me. I thought we were born with the knowledge that mercury is one of the most toxic things on this planet. You don't have to be a chemist or a scientist to know mercury is bad it's common sense. Ill be fine without getting vaccines I can handle my health on my own. No one is obligated by law to get vaccinated for any reason. It is a complete violation of free choice to refuse someone and education or a job because they wont get vaccinated.
What I want to know who sits around figuring out what to put in a vaccine to protect children's health and says hey let's inject them with mercury.

You're using instinctively in the wrong context (and wrong spelling :P). Your instincts are "techniques" you're born knowing, like to put food in your mouth or cry out when you're in pain.

That's not an instinct. Instincts are things that aren't taught... like attempting to swim if thrown in the water in order not to drown, or listening to figures of authority, or breastfeeding. There's nothing instinctive about knowing the dangers of Mercury. That's taught.

They just (as within the last week) got a US booking agent, so they're working on it. I'd assume later this year.

66% of their shows outside of Europe have been in Los Angeles.

Also, my friend just interviewed Dave for a radio show. Here's my favorite part:

Hey man, they've done a lot of different stuff throughout their career. It's not like The Codex Necro sounds just like any other AN record, so it's pretty understandable if people prefer another one of their sounds. First=/=truest, the dudes wouldn't change up their sound if they just wanted to stay true to how they sounded 11 years ago. I fucking looooove Passion, but I think I still prefer Black Widow, and it's not out of hating on Codex or anything like that, because I think Codex is a great record, but I think you have to understand that with a band that's done so many different things, different people are going to latch onto different eras.

It's not a group, jeeeeeze

WTF is rape rap?
I didn't think it was possible for me to hate rap more than I do outside the two rappers I listen to.

Resisting the urge to post something along the lines of "I don't read most of what you post", because it would be:

(a) condescending and dismissive,
(b) mean-spirited and vindictive,
(c) childish and pointless,
(d) all of the above.

By the way, the correct answer is "(d)".

Plus, I do actually read what you post - even if our musical tastes are different.

Tyler the Creator fuckin' sucks. He doesn't even make quality hip hop music. I don't know why so many people are on his dick, he's below mediocre. As the great DJ premier once said

"YOU CALL THAT SHIT HIP HOP?!?! THAT'S SOME FAGGOT BITCH SHIT Y'ALL ARE LISTENING T0".

Here is some quality hip hop for ya'll to groove out on.

Eminem (old stuff)I can actually get behind this, for the most part. You need to throw some Snoop and Dre in there too, though.

Seeing Public Enemy live (especially in Russia :tp:) was hilarious. There were at least three black guys in military uniforms running in circles around Flav and Chuck making sure they weren't too close to the audience or anything. It went over the top though when Flav started stage diving. He did it at least three times in a row; after every time, he'd assure the guards he wouldn't do it again.

Anyway, he gave me his clock afterwards. :finger:
